22.01.2022 REMINDER: NEW YEAR'S EVE PUBLIC EVENTS CANCELLED It’s not the end to 2020 we had hoped for, but unfortunately due to COVID-19 restrictions, particularly socia...l distancing and contact tracing requirements, no public Sunshine Coast New Year’s Events have been approved by Queensland Health. The traditional NYE Mooloolaba event, and the community events in Coolum and Caloundra, have been cancelled and there will be no fireworks. SO LONG, 2020! Despite the public events being cancelled, we can still ring in 2021 at one of the Coast's many restaurants and venues across the region or celebrate at home with family and friends. To ensure community safety, Queensland Police Service will have extra resources out across the region, particularly in Mooloolaba, Coolum and Caloundra, and as always, on the roads. If you are not attending a restaurant, venue or other private event, stay home this NYE. Stay safe and be kind this New Year’s Eve

22.01.2022 ADVENTURE SUNSHINE COAST: Try the Lake Currimundi - Kathleen McArthur - Conservation Park circuit SUITABILITY Easy grade, flat 3.4km trail incorporating the b...each, ocean and coastal bushland - perfect for a family walk or solo trail run. HIGHLIGHTS While popular with locals, this stunning park circuit is largely unknown to those from further afield. Named after a local conservationist and botanical artist and one of four founding members of the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland in 1962 Kathleen McArthur Conservation Park is a small parcel of wallum heath between the lake and the sea. The bright heath wildflowers that bloom in late winter and spring were widely featured in her illustrations and books. Look for white teatree, orange and yellow banksias and other small flowers and the birds that come to drink their nectar. HOW TO GET THERE Head to Wurtulla on Nicklin Way. At the IGA intersection turn into Anuna Street towards the coast. Turn left into Mandara Drive and the first right into Bareki Street. Follow this road to the end where it joins Coongarra Esplanade and look for a car park here. The walk starts here in the park. TRAIL https://adventure.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au//TrailDetailsVi

21.01.2022 Early Week children had a busy week starting with a visit from Gubbi Gubbi man, Brent. He taught us about how a didgeridoo is made and how to make the differen...t sounds. We went into our bush space and Brent showed us how to make a 'coolamon' bowl. We spent the morning in the bush today enjoying our morning tea in our yarning circle. A resident turkey scratched around us while we ate, seemingly unbothered by our presence. We sourced our own tapping sticks to sing Innanay. Some of the children made their own 'coolamon' (bowl) from paper park and a few enjoyed some low tree climbing. See more

12.01.2022 Small acts of kindness can have incredible impacts for both the person being kind and the recipient. Furthermore, people who witness or benefit from someone’s k...indness and compassion are also more likely to be kind, themselves This week sprinkle kindness like it's confetti and see, first hand, what a positive impact it can also have on your wellbeing too.

09.01.2022 Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet.... "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do." "That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don't feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you've got someone there for you. And I'll always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right.

07.01.2022 Maroochy North Shore Lions invite you, your family and friends to ‘Lap the Map’ this Saturday, 14th November 2020, from 9am to 11am. Lions across the country ar...e hosting family friendly walks to promote healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of the Diabetes epidemic in Australia. Remember to share and invite your friends. Clubs will be reporting the length of their ‘Lap the Map’ walks and we are aiming to move a combined distance that exceeds Australia’s circumference (25,760 kms). You will enjoy a great morning out and participate in a wonderful opportunity to benefit your community and raise awareness around how we can help stop the spread of diabetes nationally. We also encourage attendees to post photos or videos participating in Lap the Map walks and use the hashtag #Lionslapthemap to help spread the message to as many people as possible. ‘Lap the Map’ is one important part of our overall mission to reduce the prevalence of diabetes in Australia this year. Type 2 Diabetes represents 90% of all cases of diabetes, and can be prevented or delayed in more than half of these cases through making healthy lifestyle choices: Regular physical activity Maintaining a healthy weight Making healthy food choices Managing blood pressure Managing cholesterol levels Not smoking. It doesn’t matter how far you walk or run, it’s about being involved, getting active and moving together on this critical national project. Fast facts: Diabetes is recognised as the world’s fastest growing chronic condition. One in 11 adults has diabetes (415 million) 12 per cent of global health expenditure is spent on diabetes (USD$673 billion) Every six seconds a person dies from diabetes (5.0 million deaths).
