22.01.2022 The Jewish Queen's Gambit - the story of a Jewish chess prodigy. "The story of Polgár and her sisters has captured the imagination of many fans worldwide since the 1980s. Brought up from a young age to become a chess champion, in controversial educational methods invented and used by her father, this prodigy girl proved all theories about genius though she refuses to be defined as a genius." https://tinyurl.com/yxt634jr

18.01.2022 What’s Your Personal Spiritual Curriculum for 5781? Tune in Saturday morning, 26 September for our Shabbat Shuva morning program here: https://www.nste.org.au/hhdshabbatshuvah5781.html What aspect of your character would you like to build or strengthen during this season? The Jewish Mussar tradition identifies a number of essential soul traits and helps us see them in a new light, so we can better cultivate them in our lives. We’ll focus on a few of them during the Aseret Y’mei T’shuvah (10 days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur), as well as on Yom Kippur afternoon.

16.01.2022 Incredible images of Sukkot celebrations inside the Lodz Ghetto in 1941. The etrogim may have been smuggled into the ghetto after a long journey from Israel or Greece and a few of the ghetto’s Jewish residents were able to travel to Warsaw to locate the Four Species, which were almost impossible to find in Eastern Europe at the time. https://www.jta.org//incredible-sukkot-photos-from-inside-

13.01.2022 Boomers Film Group Event Review Film: Hannah Arendt - 15 November On Sunday 15th November, the Boomers Film Group held yet another very successful Zoom meeting. The movie we discussed was Hannah Arendt, the theme being Arendt’s controversial opinions after she attended the Eichmann trial.... We were fortunate to have as guest speaker Professor Konrad Kwiet, whose expertise in genocide and war crimes added greatly to our knowledge and understanding of issues covered by the movie. Rabbi Misha provided a very pertinent drash and also technical assistance with the Zoom format. With over 50 participants attending the meeting, there was interesting and lively discussion. The film group committee has been encouraged by the enthusiastic support of attendees and will continue to put forward quality movies that both entertain and provoke food for thought and interesting discussions. - John Polgar Next Film Group event will be held on Sunday, 20 December - find out more here: https://www.nste.org.au/community/boomers-beyond/film-group

13.01.2022 Mazel tov to Ella and her family on her upcoming Bat Mitzvah at NSTE this Saturday 5 December ... About Ella: Ella is in Year 7 at High School. She is a very driven girl who is always striving to do her best. She plays the drums in the school band and enjoys drama, singing and dancing.... Her favourite things to do when she isn’t busy with school are knitting, crochet and reading. She is an avid reader and you can always find her curled up with a good book with our dog Claude. Ella is very excited to be doing her Bat Mitzvah on 5th December after it was postponed from August. True to her personality of always wanting a challenge, she has taken on learning her new portion with aplomb. Ella is looking forward to celebrating with family and friends and we congratulate her on all the hard work she has put in leading up to her big day.
