25.01.2022 It’s Global Climbing Day! We would like to introduce you to Lorraine, Garima & Kristin; the folks behind Colourful Climbers. Colourful Climbers is a friendly, interactive community for all BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) climbers to find inclusivity and feel like the odd one ‘in’ instead of ‘out’. We aspire to build a kinship of diverse colour, cultures, and experiences, where we can create a safe space for camaraderie, spark new friendships and find climbing par...tners. Colourful Climbers seeks to amplify and uplift BIPOC voices. We encourage colourful climbers to join us with an open mind, and feel no shame in asking questions, discussing, and learning. Let’s come together to break those mental barriers of awkwardness that may or may not be holding us back. Colourful Climbers debuts to the community in partnership with Women Uprising at the Womxn Uprising Virtual Climbing Festival on September 5th! We’ll be running the closing interactive discussion session Crushin’ Mental Barriers, where we look forward to meaningful discussion with members of the North Walls community. We will also be running our first official CC community event later on in September, so follow us on Instagram @colourfulclimbers or our Colourful Climbers facebook group to stay updated for future events :D

25.01.2022 When North Walls opened up a few years ago, Jo started talking to us about a women’s climbing night. The idea was to create a meaningful space for womxn to climb and connect with other women in the community with food and workshops. She ran some great events, and it didn’t take long for a community to form. Even though we are in lockdown and many of us can’t climb; Jo continues to work hard and has put together a real treat.... I introduce you to Women Uprising Virtual Climbing Festival! We are very excited to share the work Jo has put in to make this a (virtual) reality with you all :) There will be interactive clinics with an incredible bunch of athletes, discussions on important topics that need to be talked about (and openly), concluding with an after-festival party. Oh and all participants go into the draw for a $1500 prize pack This festival will allow womxn leaders & athletes to share skills and knowledge with other womxn folks which we hope will choose to continue their own journey in adding value and independence to their lives. This is an ongoing initiative part of Womxn Uprisings commitment to empower womxn, encourage diversity and teach valuable life skills by creating a safe and diverse space for learning. All ticket sales and sponsorship will go towards remunerating every person that has committed their time to making this festival work (yes, even the volunteers!) no matter how big or small their role is. 10% of all ticket sales will also go to intouch.org.au - an organisation focusing on supporting womxn from migrant and refugee backgrounds who experience family violence. We invite all womxn climbers, non-normative gender identities and individuals who identify as womxn to join us for this Virtual Climbing Festival. Suitable for folx of all levels. If you’re interested, more info here https://www.wuclimbfestival.com and tickets here https://wu_climbfestival.eventbrite.com :) #womenuprising #climbing #girlswhoclimb #strongwomen #climber #rockclimbing #adventure #boulderer #bouldering #outdoors #fitness #training #australia

18.01.2022 @alexandermegos may have sent Bibliography, but has he ever changed over a rock climbing gyms customer relationship software? We’ve got some exciting news for everyone! We are changing customer management systems! Yaayyyyyyy said no one ever. ... We are doing a big software change over the next few weeks and that means data migration. For the few of us who have been lucky enough to do a systems migration, firstly I salute you. Secondly, you know it can be a complicated and hectic process. For us, it should improve our reception experience which should translate to a more efficient experience for you. If I’m doing my job properly, there should be no problems; but it’s probable there will be a few hiccups along the way. We are beginning the process now and should be completed over the next few weeks. Your patience is appreciated during this time. If you happen to encounter any issues over the next few weeks please message us and we will be doing our best to get all the issues sorted. #datamigration #myproj #wishmeluck #rockclimbing #fitness #training #active #climber #climbing #trainhard #melbourne #brunswick

15.01.2022 Jim is someone we know very well and love! He discovered climbing at the age of 55. Now almost 60, he's stronger than ever, and when not in lockdown, can be found busily chasing long climbs in search of that elusive flow state. In this interview, Jim says: "People who are my age, they've forgotten how to play." Well, it's pretty safe to say that Jim has not forgotten. We are lucky enough to have an interview with Jim exploring his many life adventures :)

14.01.2022 Hey Everyone, As you’ve probably already heard all of Melbourne goes back into lockdown Wednesday (8th July) at midnight. Wednesday is our last day of business and it will be your last day to climb at NW before we close again. Sessions past the lockdown date have been cancelled and we’ve arranged for all single session passes and 10 passes to be credited back onto your accounts with extended expiry dates so you will have ample time to use them when we reopen in 6 weeks.... For those of you who are membership holders, we will be termating all memberships Wednesday night to coincide with our closing waiving the 2 week minimum period. Please send us an email to [email protected] if you have any questions about your membership. Apologies again for any inconvenience. Hopefully see you in 6 weeks! Please take care of yourselves and if you have any questions, let us know. #soccer #yay #ballsports #yay #rockclimbing #fitness #brunswick #corona #covid #lockdown #melbourne #australia #climbing #climber

14.01.2022 Is there even such a thing as a bad hold? How many routes did we set this morning? Why are there so many questions? Here are your answers.... I don’t know. Seven new routes. Yep seven! Why not? #answeringaquestionwithaquestion #isjustrude #rockclimbing #fitness #climbing #climber #training #melbourne #australia #winter #sport #active

14.01.2022 Wooohooooo! It’s time to climb again on Monday the 9th Nov!.... With a lot of rules again! Unfortunately, we are gonna still have to book your sessions in for the time being; but session times will still be the same. The previous rules still apply with hygiene and distancing, and there are a few new things to be aware of. 1. We are increasing the price of our day passes ($20 for an adult day pass / $18 for concession). ... 2. You will be required to wear a mask at all times. 3. A reservation is now only for one person (i.e. if you book, your climbing partner will need to reserve their spot as well). We had some weird things happen with the previous setup, so now each booking is strictly only for one person. If you have booked in for a session, make sure your climbing partner also has a reservation. 4. Chalk balls are now permitted while on the route! It’s important that you still use liquid chalk when you start climbing. But now, you can carry a chalk bag with a chalk ball while you climb. Revolutionary! No loose chalk permitted. Those of you who had bookings that were cancelled due to the second lockdown will have a credit pass on your accounts. When you go to book, it should automatically use that pass! If you don’t get that for any reason, shoot us a DM/email and we will look into it :) Booking is online now at our website! (www.northwalls.com.au -> Book a climb) Look forward to seeing you all soon!!! #yes #rockclimbing #melbourne #fitness #climber #climbing #active #citylife #brunswick #melbourneiloveyou #bouldering #freedom #cantwait #training #summer #trainhard #conditioning

13.01.2022 Even though we are closed, the team over at @thenorthface_aunz were lovely enough to send us some goodies as part of #globalclimbingday! To enter, jump on instagram and (1) think of someone you appreciate (2) create a story or post with a few words on what you appreciate about them, big or small; even if its not climbing related (3) tag @northwalls and your friend in the story/post. We will k...eep an eye on the stories and posts, and your story will give you a chance to win 1 of 4 North Face prize packs for you and your friend to share. You have 24 hours to share your stories. The chance to win a prize pack will close Sunday 23rd Aug @ 6pm. Winners drawn at random and will be contacted by DM and prizes will be available for pick up from North Walls when we reopen. We would like to take a moment and introduce to you Sam, Minty & Katie; wonderful members of the Adaptive Climbing community. If you’re hearing about Adaptive Climbing Vic for the first time; they are a group dedicated to providing opportunities to climb for people of all abilities. There is a big team and the amount of effort they put in is incredible; and it shows with how vibrant their community is. They have grown quickly over the last couple years and have had athletes compete at the climbing World Cup in France (go @johnnymetronome!).

02.01.2022 Here’s a brief exploration into the habits of climbing partners that no one asked for. If you’re anything like me, lockdown 2.0 has been a fair bit more challenging for mental health. For those of you struggling you are definitely not alone. There are a range of support services out there for you, most of them are free and just a phone call away. Beyond Blue, Black Dog Institute, R U OK Day are dedicated mental health services, just to name a few. Take care of yourself. 02.01.2022 Hey Everyone, By now you may have heard the Victorian Government announcement about stage 3 restrictions for specific suburbs. We are still open! But there are new guidelines that will affect some members of our community that live in certain postcodes. Residents of target postcodes are permitted exercise outdoors only. Unfortunately, that means those of us living in the specific suburbs won't be able to climb at North Walls or any other indoor climbing gyms after today (1...st July 2020). If you live in one of the suburbs going into stage 3 restrictions, please shoot an email to [email protected] and let us know. We will extend expiry dates of your session passes. If you have a membership, let us know if you’d like to cancel it (cancellations will be processed within a day with no minimum cancellation period). If you would like more information, you can find it here https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/new-restrictions-melbournes-hot For those of you fortunate enough not living in the stage 3 restricted suburbs, please remember to adhere to covid rules and regulations. Sanitise those hands and keep your social distance regardless if you're in the gym or not. Please take care of yourselves out there. #rockclimbing #fitness #covid #restrictions #melbourne #australia #climber #climbing #brunswick

02.01.2022 So things are still pretty quiet on the North Walls side of things and will be for a while yet. However, there is some movement for 90% of other small businesses in our area with the announcement of an outdoor dining format for our favourite food and drink establishments! The Moreland City Council are going a step further and considering ways they might be able to repurpose existing public space to support the hospitality industry in Brunswick. As you can imagine, cafes, restaurants & pubs have been hit hard and could use any help they can get. Moreland council is taking feedback from you on how they can reimagine outdoor spaces to support hospitality . If you support this and maybe even have some clever ideas to share, you can add your voice here https://conversations.moreland.vic.gov.au/outdoordiningmore

01.01.2022 Ever wondered how to use a Grigri for lead climbing? If you already have your lead pass at North Walls for a different device, and you'd like to give Grigri belay a go, come along next Thursday to test it out. You'll get a sweet discount if you want to buy a Grigri on the night and we'll have spares for the workshop if you want to try before you buy. See you there!... #howtogrigri #assistedbreakingdevice #grigri #climbing #rockclimbing #training #fitness #climber #brunswick #melbourne #australia #northwalls
