22.01.2022 NEW HEADQUARTERS FOR MOREE SES UNIT Construction of the New South Wales State Emergency Services (NSWSES) headquarters has commenced in Moree. NSWSES staff an...d volunteers have waited close to six years for the new building project to get underway, creating a permanent headquarters in the process, so it was all smiles as local tradies started work last week. Moree Unit Commander Vivianne Fouracre said it was an exciting development to watch the slab go down, the structure emerging from the ground and even walls going on the new building. We have waited a long time to have a headquarters we can call our own, and it will be good for the local community. To have something up and new again will really give us a presence in town and tells Moree we are here to serve them during floods and storms. For our current members, this will really give them a lift too and having a new headquarters will also hopefully entice some new volunteers to the unit to help us help the Moree community, Vivianne added. Mayor of Moree Plains Shire Council, Katrina Humphries shares enthusiasm in providing the SES with a permanent home. Our community understands and appreciates the hard work of our local SES staff and volunteers, they have supported us throughout devastating moments created by natural disasters like floods, fires and damaging storms. We could not be more exciting to support the construction of the new purpose built administration building fitted with the facilities required to store vehicles and equipment on site, enabling them to respond faster to emergencies in our community. The new headquarters was jointly funded by the SES and Council and will compliment an adjacent shed on the premises in Maude Street which houses the SES units vehicles and equipment. The new Moree SES headquarters is expected to be finished towards the end of 2020 under the watchful eye of Moree Plains Shire Council and its project management team. We cant wait to get in, Vivianne noted. It represents a fresh start for the unit in Moree and will be a great springboard to continue to serve the community during times of emergency, she concluded. 19.01.2022 QANTASLINK SERVICE SYDNEY TO MOREE CONTINUING UNTIL 2022 Last night The Hon. Paul Toole, Minister for Regional Transport and Roads touched down in Moree ann...ouncing the NSW Governments decision to extend QantasLinks air transport licence until March 2022. The Sydney to Moree air route is an imperative service to the Plains, connecting our community to the city and aiding in the support of our tourism and rural economy. Moree Plains Shire Councils Acting Director of Engineering and Airport Manager, Alan Lawrance welcomed last nights announcement by Minister Toole. The return of regular flights into Moree was only announced last month, it is great to see these flights will continue for the next two years and a corporate carrier like Qantas is helping to connect the city to the country. The flights to and from Sydney are important to our community as they offer tourists the opportunity to take a dip in our artesian baths and enable professional operators to attend meetings and continue trading business in Moree. While Moree currently receives fewer flights than before the COVID-19 travel restrictions came into effect, last nights announcement is a sign that Qantas sees a bright future in Moree and flights can increase to their usual daily return trips when it is safe to do so, said Mr Lawrance. The QantasLink service between Sydney and Moree returned last month offering regular return flights on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. Moree Plains Shire Councils Mayor, Katrina Humphries, was pleased to see Morees relationship with Qantas continue stating, our relationship with Qantas has always been rock solid, and we appreciate having an air service in these difficult times and look forward to continuing this relationship with QantasLink. One of the biggest concerns around our air service is the security of the Moree to Sydney aircraft scheduling into Mascot. Access to medical professionals is vital to the community and we rely heavily on being able to have access to medical professionals come to Moree, as well as community members seeking medical support in Sydney, Mayor Humphries concluded. For more information regarding updated flight services, please visit the Qantas website: https://www.qantas.com/au/en.html For more information regarding social distancing measures implemented at the Moree Regional Airport please see our media release: https://www.mpsc.nsw.gov.au//965-moree-regional-airport-an Photograph: Announcement of to extend QantasLinks air transport licence until March 2022. 05.01.2022 INLAND RAIL STEAMING INTO THE MOREE PLAINS $693 MILLION CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT AWARDED The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has awarded the $693 mill...ion construction contract for the next section of Inland Rail, with Trans4m Rail announced as the Tier 1 Contractor for Phase 1 of the Narrabri to North Star section of the Inland Rail. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Michael McCormack, welcomed the news that ARTC had signed the contract with Trans4m Rail, a joint-venture between John Holland and SEE Civil, as it represents a significant milestone for Inland Rail. Inland Rail is going to change the freight task in Australia and in doing so will create opportunity in regional Australia with unprecedented investment and job creation, Mr McCormack said. This $693.8 million contract with Trans4m Rail, along with the delivery of almost 25,000 tonnes of steel over the past 18 months, puts us closer to construction and the benefits of Inland Rail in North West NSW. Trans4m Rail will deliver construction of the first phase of work on the Narrabri to North Star project, which involves the upgrade of the existing 171km rail line between Narrabri and North Star. The announcement was welcomed by Moree Plains Shire Council, with Mayor Katrina Humphries acknowledging that Trans4M Rail’s appointment will bring widespread flow-on effects through the local Moree Plains economy. With most of Trans4M Rail’s workforce to be accommodated here in Moree, there is a once in a life time opportunity for many different businesses to cater for our influx of Inland Rail personnel as well as keeping our Tourists happy too, said Mayor Humphries. We are also really excited that Trans4M Rail is committed to employing local people and engaging with local businesses and suppliers. During the Parkes to Narromine construction, over $109.7million was spent with local businesses and 762 local residents worked on the project. This is all ahead of us. I can’t imagine a better way for the Moree Plains to show the world we are open for business! With construction to commence shortly, Council’s Regional Activation Unit Manager Mark Connolly agreed that the project was going to be a key driver of employment and investment into the Plains. Our local producers have been crying out for many seasons for this upgrade to take place to provide them with better and quicker freight access. While the works will provide immediate benefits for the local ag sector, this project is so much bigger for us. With the Moree Special Activation Precinct, we are already seeing plenty of investment opportunities canvassed for the Moree Plains because of our key place on the Inland Rail and the unique characteristics of our area. For more information on Inland Rail and the Narrabri to North Star project visit www.InlandRail.gov.au.
