24.01.2022 While everyone is wearing masks, we have noticed that there has been a correlation between wearing masks and jaw pain and headaches Holding your mouth open while wearing a mask can lead to muscle inbalance in the neck and jaw, as it’s these inbalances and restrictions that can lead to headaches Another by product of wearing a mask is that you may also find yourself consuming less water than normal, leaving you dehydrated by the end of the day. This can lead to headaches and... fatigue Call 9337-8737 now - our wonderful osteopaths can show you some self massage techniques of the facial muscles to decrease pain and tightness Alternatively, you can book online so we can assist you with this more recently common complaint

23.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE 22nd JULY 2020 Safety screen guard & mandatory masks coming in effect from midnight! A sneeze guard has been installed in reception for added protection for our patients and staff. As of Thursday 23rd July, face masks will be mandatory in the clinic. We are following Australian government guidelines and ask our patients to adhere to our COVID-19 safety protocols. As we have very limited stock on masks, patients will be required to wear their own mask when attending their appointments. Please note that patients without a mask will be provided with one and will incur an additional fee of $2 to their cost of consultation. 22.01.2022 Stage 4 Lockdown Update! We have been informed late today by our governing body OA (Osteopathy Australia) that all allied health care practice in Metropolitan Melbourne can still treat if you feel your condition is urgent, if you think the absence or delay of osteopathic treatment would result in your condition taking you to the hospital, or requiring specialist medical intervention. If you pass the screening criteria, you will be eligible for treatment. While this seems ex...cessive, these are conditions outlined by the DHHS. They have issued a caution to the allied health community whereby a breach of these conditions can result in HUGE fines for the business and individuals. As health care is an essential service, if you have an appointment that has been determined as urgent and live further than 5kms away, you can attend your appointment. You can show your sms reminder as proof of appointment. Whilst we are aware this is short notice and may cause some concern for our patients we want to assure you our focus at this time is to continually work within the government guidelines to provide the best care. For now we will keep you updated with changes as they become available via email. We will still be answering your calls and you can reach us on the same number 03 9337 8737 We hope to update you in the coming days on a clearer guideline of how we will operate during the remainder of Stage 4 restrictions. We hope you and your families stay well and safe during this uncertain time and look forward to seeing you. North Western Osteopathic Clinic

19.01.2022 Hey guys, Krystina here! As you may or may have not heard by now, stage 4 restrictions have been extended by 2 weeks! Please take a second to read the latest clinic update from our director Rose. If you are booked in during those two weeks, you will receive a call from one of us soon regarding your appointment. ... 19.01.2022 As restrictions are beginning to ease, there is some good news for Melbournes littlest lockdown-ers. Parks across Melbourne re-opened today and there isnt a better way to break up your remote learning day than to pay the park a visit. Not only are there many contributing benefits to your childs health by visiting the park, but environments like these bring families together and improve mental health while be out in nature in comparison to being locked indoors. ... Children are not limited by walls or fences while playing in the park and are able to develop their motor skills by climbing and swinging. Outdoor play also supports your childs mental health by improving focus and attention span (especially after a long day of remote learning). Children can also develop independence and social skills outdoors, as well as executive function skills. As many parks already have educational play equipment incorporated, watch them stretch their minds as they problem solve on their own. So what are you waiting for? The best way to get your kids to get outdoors is if you lead by example. Make sure to include some time during the week to get down to the park!

13.01.2022 With gyms, sports games and other exercise classes closed over the past few months, many of us have had to adjust the way we train Although some people took up home training, many of us Melbournians struggled to get those steps in on the Fitbit (getting up from your WFH station for a snack doesnt really count) As gyms re-open, there is a big potential for overload and soft tissue injuries to occur. This is due to the high volumes of physical activity we are taking on af...ter being on the sidelines for a few months Many of us have also been sitting in pretty poor postures at our work desks at home. This can cause tension and pain in your neck, upper and lower back, and shoulders. Not only does poor posture trigger that kind of discomfort, it can lead to many other complications in the future Speak to one of our osteopaths today and seek advice early. 03.01.2022 DRY NEEDLING AND OSTEOPATHY Anthony, Michael and Mariella all practice dry needling? Dry needling is commonly used by therapists to deactivate and help loosen trigger points within a tight muscle using a fine acupuncture needle.... Chronic muscle tension and spasm can cause reduced oxygen and nutrients supply to the muscles which can result in abnormal function and fatiguing. Dry needling can promote blood flow and growth factors to facilitate healing. Dry needling can also be used to strengthen tendons and ligaments by inducing a local inflammatory response which activates healing. They both use dry needling in conjunction with their regular osteopathic treatments if deemed helpful to your condition.
