18.01.2022 COVID-19 Update from GV Health Chief Executive, Matt Sharp

17.01.2022 SPECIAL REPORT: Riding the Corona Coaster Across Victoria, students and their families are experiencing challenging times with the state being in various stages of lockdown yet again. However, this second wave of the pandemic is now also beginning to impact other areas of Australia and New Zealand. Riding this corona coaster and navigating the ups and downs of the current reality is proving to be confronting for many people. The coronavirus has turned our lives upside down wi...th some students returning to remote learning and parents continuing to juggle the home environment. The uncertainty of not knowing what will happen next may have an impact on many students and their families. There is a concern that mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and substance abuse will increase, especially amongst young people. In the coming weeks, it will be vital for adult carers to reduce the stress levels at home and make life seem more manageable. As an adult carer, it will also be essential to look after your own wellbeing during this time. Ensure you make time to de-escalate your own nervous system and maintain your sleep routine, healthy eating habits, get some regular exercise and reach out virtually to friends and family. In this Special Report, families are encouraged to embrace the guidance offered to help minimise the impact of this corona coaster. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report and, as always, we welcome your feedback. If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help. Here is the link to your special report: https://schooltv.me/we/special-report-riding-corona-coaster

16.01.2022 NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all people of Australia to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and to support our community. I think NAIDOC week is an important week of the year as it is a reminder of the history of Yorta Yorta First Nations Peoples here in the Goulburn Valley and Australia. The more knowledge people have about the history the more chances we have of being understanding and truly reconciling. It’...s about promoting the achievements Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have had over the years and shows their history, culture, beliefs and to fight for their rights towards social justice and to teach New Australians to understand what the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have experienced. I think it’s important to celebrate NAIDOC week, as every year we celebrate this week, the more we realise we are all part of one nation and we are all one together with lots of different history and culture and I think this builds respect and knowledge for all. As non-Indigenous people, every time you share, promote or speak about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, issues, or content, you invite more people to the conversation. Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples make up less than 4% of the nations population. This means non Indigenous people are in a powerful position to support our community and promote discussion. Janelle Atkinson Indigenous Education Support Worker Notre Dame College

The students learnt how to make the dough with flour and eggs and then used the pasta making machine to roll it out into spaghetti and fettuccine. Unfortunately we didn’t get to cook and eat it this time but some of us will go home and make our own. It’s really easy. Buonissimo!!

08.01.2022 SURVIVING FINAL YEAR OF SECONDARY SCHOOL YEAR 12 The final year of secondary school is a year of hard work and a huge commitment for students. With so much going on it can be hard to find the balance between study and life. 03.01.2022 MacKillop Sock Drive!!!!!! A pair of socks might seem like a given for us. We get up, go to a drawer or basket and there is a pair or many, ready to go. But for many Australians and people locally, this just isn’t the case. Socks are one of the least donated items to op shops, yet one of the most in demand items needed or required amongst the homeless community. Think about it. We usually wear our socks out, or they get holes in them, or they lose the elasticity, or the...y just get plain grotty and definitely can’t be donated. Yet socks have a major impact on the health and hygiene of a person. Cold wet feet will speed up the onset of hypothermia in cold weather, cause foot rot and infections that can cause to have toes removed and if left untreated can kill those affected. For many the sock is the only piece of clothing between their foot and the ground. MacKillop House (in the spirit of Mary, seeing a need and doing something about it) decided that this year’s fundraiser will be a ‘sock drive’. One pair of socks these days is less than a cup of coffee, a burger or one alcoholic beverage. Please support MacKillop House and those in need. Well done MacKillop House

Joseph Taylor VG PP on the occasion of his 70th Birthday and in recognition of his service as Canonical Administrator of Notre Dame College 2012-2020 (inc). A ‘just man’ who shows us dignity of human work and the importance of participating in God’s plan for salvation.
