24.01.2022 The Anti-Hibernation Project.... With PT Darran Petty, Scottie and Joe from ultra 106.5FM we're encouraging you not to gain weight over winter by starting or keeping up some daily activity and eating mindfully. This means slow down, just eat when eating, taste and watch your non-hungry eating. Head to www.ultra106five.com to do our survey and join the fun...

17.01.2022 This morning on Ultra 106.5 Scotty Haas and I we're talking about making your diet less beige. This means adding more colour with fruit and veg to promote taste, texture, visual appeal, cardiac, gut and mental health. Above all, keep it simple, fresh and tasty.. achieved tonight with my daughter's chicken pasta dish = leftover roast chicken, pasta, stir through pasta sauce with garlic, mushrooms, frozen Aussie baby beans & peas plus sprinkle of chopped coriander. The extra salt and sugar in bought pasta sauce well diluted by the colourful veg to make it a very healthy & Yummo meal... So good I can't get rid of second picture

13.01.2022 5 small avocados for $4!!! It may be the early stages of Woollies latest campaign to lift market share but I'm happy...Shame they had to come in a plastic box. Keep an eye out for Woollies "odd bunch" range and use this creamy fruit in place of spreads on bread or toast (+ sauerkraut = yummo), in your salads, dips or just by themselves for a wonderful boost to your daily vitamin E intake and cardiac friendly monounsaturated fat

12.01.2022 It's healthy bones week and a great time to remind you to keep moving. When freezing outside crank up the music and dance...Check out Dairy Australia for more info on food and exercise to maintain strong bones plus a chance to win a grocery voucher.

11.01.2022 Thank you for helping me get to 100 likes in my first week... and thanks Joe King for the picture

11.01.2022 Next month's Australian healthy food Guide should be hitting news stands this week with lots of easy to prepare, yummy & seasonal fare that's even good for you... The watermelon pizza on front cover suits my minimalist cooking attitude to Summer, with topping made of ricotta, light cream cheese, honey & vanilla extract.. It could be FODMAP friendly with rockmelon, lactose free cream cheese blended with lactose free milk or yoghurt, chopped almonds & all the rest...

11.01.2022 Love the strawberry idea

10.01.2022 Day 1 of this facebook page to promote good news on food and the joy of eating and moving well. All contributions and questions welcomed, no guarentee on turnaround time as I cherish my sleep and play time so let's see how it goes....

09.01.2022 Here's to the moderation movement... Not quite as sexy as Paleo, Primal, Alkaline or plain old Sugar free ideals but definitely more sustainable and healthy for your body and soul

08.01.2022 I've been silent for months as I choose sleep over late night Facebook updates while settling in to new systems and office at 2 Gregory St AND still enjoying my family....here's to more frequent short entries about the good news on food and we're not short of that in this lovely part if the world

05.01.2022 I love Aussie navels ..... I'm talking sweet luscious & juicy oranges rich in vitamin C that we all need in abundance and ideally from food. Navels have been in season for a few weeks now so taste great and are relatively cheap. They and all citrus fruits are Mother nature's gift to our winter diet when we're having more cooked veg and not so easily turned on by Brussel sprouts, cabbage and Kale (more to follow on these). In addition to providing immune boosting vitamin C(a... powerful antioxidant and co-factor in gazillions of metabolic processes so essential for helping our bodies cope with everyday stresses) the act of taking time at the end of a meal or between meals to sit, relax and peel an orange to enjoy each individual segment is a wonderful exercise in mindfulness. So rather think of peeling oranges as a time consuming nuisance, appreciate that the act of peeling is slowing down your eating, indulging your senses with fragrant aroma and may be helping you to avoid the biscuit tin. 04.01.2022 Primal, Paleo or Alkaline Diets - how good are they??? Good as a form of food restriction or semi-starvation that helps many celebs stay swelte. Good as they promote adequate rest to support our work and play...What 's new?the marketing, the testimonials, online presence and most importantly a much sexier way of saying what your great grandmother could have told you, "Moderation is the key to good health". So do yourself a favour and compare any new "diet" to The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating at www.eatforhealth.gov.au supported by 55000 journal articles and thousands of years of human evolution.

04.01.2022 On the ultra 106five brekkie show a few weeks ago I promised a breakfast/recess/anytime muffin that is nutrient rich & will freeze for picnics & packed lunches. Sourced from the September edition of the Australian Healthy Food Guide, this recipe is a batter made from banana, oats, egg yoghurt, honey & vanilla divided into a 12 hole muffin pan & topped with fresh or frozen fruit & nuts ...or to represent all food groups, cut out the honey or sugar & vanilla and consider spin...ach/mushroom/capsicum/semi-dried tomatoes & a sprinkle of cheese (feta or tasty or blue) ACTION... A. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C B. Blend the following until smooth & creamy: 2 large ripe bananas (fresh or frozen) 2 cups rolled oats 1 cup reduced fat Greek style Yoghurt 2 eggs 4 Tblsp Honey or 1/3 cup sugar 1 1/2 Tblsp SR flour 1 teasp bicarb 1 teasp vanilla C. Add toppings & bake 20-25 mins until golden brown & a skewer inserted into the middle comes out clean D. Leave to cool in tin for a few minutes before removing onto a wire rack At 569kj or 136Kcals each, 3 or 4 with a God coffee would make a reasonable breakfast to kickstart your day... enjoy

03.01.2022 Congratulations Australia on beating Argentina in a very physical game for this afternoon's Rugby World Cup Semi-final at Twickenham. Our Wallabies will certainly need great nutritional care for their recovery.. Initially fluid, carbs and electrolytes via sports drinks and then a tasty high carb and protein meal that their appetites will demand... Lucky me got to watch the game with my dad in real time as I'm having a 10 day family catch up. Here's to the Wallabies going all the way next Saturday afternoon

02.01.2022 Supermarket Specials & Christmas Gifting While we all love a bargain it can be good to question if that "special" pushed in your face while queuing at the checkout is helpful your own health goals, energy levels, performance & overall wellbeing. For example yesterday I picked up a scrummy baby pineapple on special for $1.80 and at the checkout a half price bar of Lindt chocolate for $2... While chopped up for dessert I'll probable get more mileage out of the pineapple but also 1/3 of the energy content, similar sugar content, lots more water soluble vitamins, calcium & magnesium plus 8 times the fibre content which is more likely to make me feel fuller. Along with the pineapple I did buy more than 1 bar of chocolate which I'll hide with my Christmas stash and encourage to this Christmas (or anytime really) is to keep your chocolate for dessert or times when not hungry so you can eat slowly and savour the deliciousness of the chocolate without being tempted to scoff a 100g bar to very quickly reach nearly half*your daily energy requirement. (* A third for tall or active people) So enjoy giving and receiving chocolate but do yourself a favour, keep it out of sight till dessert time, serve with some chopped fruit & summer berries and SAVOUR ... you'll get far more pleasure from a generous & well meaning gift
