25.01.2022 31st May is World No Tobacco Day. Lets make everyday #WorldNoTobaccoDay!

24.01.2022 NATIONAL STROKE WEEK (31 August 6 September 2020) This year were celebrating everyday Australians who know and can recognise the signs of stroke. They are F.A.S.T. Heroes! Across Australia, F.A.S.T. Heroes can save lives, simply by knowing and recognising the F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) signs of stroke and calling an ambulance immediately. They know that stroke is always a medical emergency and time is critical.... The Stroke Foundation is a national charity that partners with the community to prevent, treat and beat stroke. They stand alongside stroke survivors and their families, healthcare professionals and researchers. Building community awareness and fostering new thinking and innovative treatments. They support survivors on their journey to live the best possible life after stroke. They are the voice of stroke in Australia and they work to: ~ Raise awareness of the risk factors, signs of stroke and promote healthy lifestyles. ~ Improve treatment for stroke to save lives and reduce disability. ~ Improve life after stroke for survivors. ~ Encourage and facilitate stroke research. ~ Advocate for initiatives to prevent, treat and beat stroke. ~ Raise funds from the community, corporate sector and government to continue our mission. If you you'd like to become a F.A.S.T Hero, or simply want to know more information, visit: https://strokefoundation.org.au/

22.01.2022 Im just leaving Sydney, after having met with the Prime Minister and other State Premiers. I wanted to update you all on the outcomes. We are in uncharted ter...ritory. I understand there is a lot of concern across the community about coronavirus, and what it means for us, in Western Australia. But its important we remain calm, take the best medical advice and act accordingly. Today we agreed to establish a National Cabinet of all leaders across the nation to deal with the issues facing us. We will meet weekly, maybe even more regularly, to ensure we have a coordinated national response to COVID-19. I dont think people want politicians just making off-the-cuff decisions about things like large events. Those decisions need to be made based on proper, considered health advice. But I want to make it clear to Western Australians who are thinking about travelling overseas. This virus is spreading across the globe, and at a much faster rate in some countries. Please put your health first. Consider your family, your friends and your colleagues. If your overseas travel isnt an absolute requirement, please reconsider it. Explore our great State instead. I promise you, youll enjoy it, and it is a safer option for you and your family. And it helps in our efforts to limit the spread of this virus in our community. We also agreed to a coordinated approach to ensure we have adequate medical supplies across the nation. This is very serious. The line of sight is so difficult because medical supplies is a global problem, with many countries going through the same experience. We also accepted the medical recommendation to advise against non-essential, organised gatherings with 500 or more people from going ahead. This will come into effect from Monday, for indoor and outdoor events. Its a precautionary step, but one thats in the best interest of our community. It doesnt mean schools, universities, public transport, airports will need to close. As outlined in our pandemic plan, if we need to go down that path, we will. Ill keep providing updates when we have them. Our regular COVID-19 updates will continue. I know all of this is worrying. But Western Australia is prepared. We will get through this. Together.

18.01.2022 We are at war with the COVID-19 pandemic. Self-isolation is one of the best weapons we have to fight it. Every potential interaction and infection we avoid in t...his time helps slow the spread of the virus and helps our staff on the front line. With the vast, vast majority of our cases of COVID-19 are coming from interstate and overseas, we need all travellers to self-isolate when they get back to WA. If you are required to self-isolate, whether due to travel, symptoms or a positive diagnosis, you need to take it seriously. Stay home. Do not leave your property. Dont go to the shops, dont walk the dog, dont have guests. Minimise close contact and avoid sharing items with other household residents. Only leave if you need medical attention or for testing if you are eligible. This is extremely serious - it will literally save lives. Penalties of up to $50,000 will apply for breaking self-isolation. If someone you know is meant to be self-isolating, take every step to make sure they follow these requirements. And if you know of someone who is breaching requirements to self-isolate, I implore you to contact the authorities - either Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or WA Police on 131 444. I understand that it can be annoying, I understand that it will be difficult. But self-isolation is going to be critical if were going to beat this pandemic. In the end, self-isolation will be a small price to pay, so do it for your family, your friends, your neighbours, your fellow West Aussies, and your fellow human beings.

09.01.2022 This is our WA COVID-19 update for Thursday 19th March 2020. Our regular public updates include up-to-date information, current advice and tips on how to better... protect yourself. It is important people are well informed on the virus, so as new information or advice becomes available we will share it. ---- - Current cases - With over 900 additional tests completed since yesterday's update, there have been 17 additional cases of COVID-19 detected in Western Australia. Along with the first regional case of COVID-19 being recorded in the South West who is a returned overseas traveller. At this time we can confirm four of the cases recently returned from overseas the UK, France, New Zealand, USA and Europe (including Italy). The sources of transmission for the other 12 new cases are being investigated, with the Department undertaking thorough contact tracing. We will provide more details once they are confirmed. Increasing cases indicate we are moving towards the early stages of some community transmission. However this is yet to be confirmed. We always knew this would eventually happen and we are prepared for it when it does. Weve now completed nearly 8,000 tests in Western Australia, 1,000 of which have been from regional Western Australia. The tests have uncovered 52 cases, the remaining tests all returning negative results. One patient, who was in a stable condition in hospital with COVID-19, has been discharged and has now fully recovered. ---- - New COVID-19 clincs - Today we announcing more locations for COVID-19 clinics which will open across the metropolitan area and in and in regional WA. They are planned to be located at Rockingham, Armadale, Joondalup and Midland. Further details will be announced in coming days. ---- - Travel advice - Today, the Prime Minister announced that Australias borders will be closed to everyone except for Australian residents, citizens and their family members. It will come into effect at 6.00PM or 1800 AWST this Friday. Australians are now advised NOT to travel overseas. Level four advice is now in place for EVERY overseas country, this is the first time this has ever happened. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is also advising all Australians overseas who intend to come home to do so immediately. Western Australians should only travel interstate if it is absolutely essential. Restrictions have been placed on travel to WA's remote Aboriginal communities, who are especially vulnerable. Anyone arriving in Australia from overseas will to be forced to self-isolate for 14 days. International cruise ships will also be banned from docking in Australia for at least 30 days. ---- - Schools - The official medical advice is clear - closing schools is not currently recommended for Australia. There is no medical evidence that indicates closing schools helps to slow the spread of COVID-19. If schools close, many families would have to leave their children in the care of grandparents, who are most at risk. It would also have a massive effect on our front-line health workers, many of whom would have to stop working to care for their children. If there is a need to temporarily close a school down - we will do that. However, prematurely closing all schools could do much more harm than good. Thank you to all staff at our schools for their important service at this challenging time. ---- - Panic buying - I want to reassure all Western Australians that we have ample supplies of food and medicine. The shortages we are seeing on supermarket shelves and in our pharmacies is not a result of supply issues. It is a result of panic buying. This hoarding of supplies MUST stop. Purchase what you need, when you need it. Buying multiple months worth of groceries at the moment is simply unaustralian and disgusting. It means that the most vulnerable in our community are sadly going without. ---- - Vulnerable people in our community - The National Cabinet has agreed to a number of measures to protect and support elderly Australians. There will now be restrictions on visitors to residential aged care facilities. Anyone who has been overseas or in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 within a fortnight will be banned from visiting aged care homes. Aged care residents will only be able to receive one visit a day, with a maximum of two people visiting. We ask all regular visitors and staff to be extremely vigilant and take every precaution. To address specific challenges facing people with disability in this COVID-19 environment, the nations Disability Ministers yesterday decided on an action plan to ensure the best possible care is provided across the disability sector. Specific measures in this plan will be finalised and announced in coming days. ---- - State Emergency Declaration - A State of Emergency and a Public Health Emergency has been declared for Western Australia. These declarations provide the State Government, the WA Police Force and the Chief Health Officer with the powers and flexibility they need to enforce quarantine and self-isolation measures, as was agreed at the National Cabinet meeting between the Prime Minister, State Premiers and Chief Ministers. We will be using powers under the Public Health Act and Emergency Management Act to enforce the new rules regarding self-isolation of travellers, cruise ships and organised gatherings. Penalties of up to $50,000 will apply. Anyone entering or returning to Australia from overseas are required to self-isolate for 14 days after arrival. They are required to go straight to their home or accommodation and remain there for the full 14 day period, with the exception of seeking medical assistance if necessary. Western Australians who are aware of someone breaching a requirement to self-isolate - please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or WA Police on 131 444. These are precautionary steps in the best interests of our community. The decision does not mean schools, universities, public transport or airports will need to close. Our State pandemic plan outlines options that can be exercised - should we need to go down that path. ---- - Testing and COVID clinics - Due to a national shortage and high-demand for testing, we've adjusted the requirements to be tested for COVID-19 at this time - which will bring Western Australia in line with other Australian jurisdictions. This is due to a global shortage of the chemical reagent required for laboratory testing and follows deliberations at the Council of Australian Governments meeting. This new testing criteria will ensure testing of high-risk patients can occur at the height of the expected pandemic. Effective immediately, COVID-19 testing in WA will only be available to individuals who: 1. Have fever (temperature of 37.5 deg or above) or respiratory illness AND 2. Can provide evidence of recent overseas travel (for example, airline ticket or passport stamp) OR have had close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case OR are a health or aged care worker, with direct patient contact. All COVID-19 testing in the metropolitan area will be performed only at the three COVID clinics, which are operational between the hours of 8am-8pm, 7 days a week. They are based at Royal Perth Hospital (Ground Floor, Ainslie House, 48 Murray Street), Fiona Stanley Hospital (Allied Health 2, Gymnasiums, East End, Bedbrook Row), Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (C Block, Hospital Avenue) and In regional areas, people should go to a public hospital, health service or remote health clinic. Please call ahead if you are concerned that you have contracted COVID-19. Additionally, a new COVID-19 clinic opened today in Bunbury and will operate 10am - 4pm every day. It is based at the Bunbury Health Campus (Corner Bussell Highway And Robertson Drive). Patients at COVID-19 clinics are required to bring proof of recent travel or identify the confirmed case they have been in contact with. The criteria for testing will be updated according to changes in the disease pattern in WA. Patients will be screened and where appropriate tested, provided with appropriate information and referred for further medical treatment if necessary. If people do not meet the criteria they will not be tested. Those individuals who are tested and well enough, will be asked to self-isolate while they await test results. Anyone who is confirmed to have COVID-19, who does not require hospitalisation will be asked to stay in home isolation as instructed by the public health team. It is also extremely important that people who are unwell and are concerned they have COVID-19 should immediately self-isolate and then seek further medical advice. More locations for COVID-19 clinics across the metropolitan area and in regional WA will be considered if there is a need to meet future or increased demand. ---- We are preparing and taking every precaution to protect Western Australia from COVID-19. The Western Australian health system and our hospitals are very well prepared to manage infectious disease situations and have well established systems and processes in place. The WA Governments Pandemic Plan has been updated to respond to COVID-19, and it is now publically available. You can see the plan for yourself at https://www.wa.gov.au/covid19 under WA Government Response. The State Government is taking this very seriously and we need to be prepared for a pandemic. Every action we take and decision we make is to protect Western Australians. We have already taken action with a suite of measures to prepare the State for the possibility of a pandemic. Western Australians should be going about their business as usual. It is important that we remain calm and use common sense. The best thing we can do to protect ourselves is quality personal hygiene and exercise social distancing by avoiding unnecessary personal contact. That includes covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands often with soap or sanitiser, staying home from work or school if unwell, avoiding shaking hands or hugging, and maintaining distance from others in public. Please also continue to follow the advice of authorities and doctors - anyone who is instructed to self-isolate must take the request seriously, stay home and not put others at risk. This means you dont leave your property, you dont go to work or school, you dont go on outings and you dont have visitors - only leave the house to seek medical attention. People simply need to be aware, observe good health and make sure they have accurate information, from credible sources. ---- Official information regarding COVID-19 in Western Australia - www.wa.gov.au/covid19 WA Department of Health information www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/coronavirus Coronavirus information hotline 1800 020 080 Smartraveller information regarding travel advice for Australians - www.smartraveller.gov.au

02.01.2022 This is our WA COVID-19 update for Wednesday 18th March 2020. Our regular public updates include up-to-date information, current advice and tips on how to bette...r protect yourself. It is important people are well informed on the virus, so as new information or advice becomes available we will share it. ---- - Current cases - With over 450 additional tests completed since yesterday's update, there have been four additional cases of COVID-19 detected in Western Australia. At this time we can confirm three of the cases recently returned from overseas the UK, Indonesia and Austria. The source of transmission for the fourth new case is being investigated, with the Department undertaking thorough contact tracing. We will provide details on that case once they are confirmed. Weve now completed over 7,000 tests in Western Australia and uncovered 35 cases, the remaining tests all returning negative results. Aside from the new case which remains under investigation, all current cases relate to people travelling outside the State or family members who have recently been overseas, and are all based in the Perth metropolitan area. One patient, who was in a stable condition in hospital with COVID-19, has been discharged and has now fully recovered. ---- - Mass gatherings - Today, based on the latest medical advice, an immediate ban on indoor non-essential gatherings of more than 100 people is now in place, in addition to the ban on all non-essential mass gatherings of more than 500 people. This includes, among other things, many hospitality businesses which will now need to restrict capacity. There are exceptions that include healthcare facilities, public transport, emergency service facilities, prisons, childcare centres, supermarkets, construction and mining sites, office buildings and schools. As always, all Western Australians should be exercising good personal hygiene and social distancing - washing your hands regularly, avoiding unnecessary personal contact and keeping 1.5 metres away from others wherever possible. ---- - Aged care - The National Cabinet has agreed to a number of measures to protect and support elderly Australians. ---- - Travel advice - Australians are now advised NOT to travel overseas. Level four advice is now in place for EVERY overseas country, this is the first time this has ever happened. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is also advising all Australians overseas who intend to come home to do so immediately. Western Australians should only travel interstate if it is absolutely essential. We're also looking to restrict all non-essential travel to WA's remote Aboriginal communities, who are especially vulnerable. Anyone arriving in Australia from overseas will to be forced to self-isolate for 14 days. International cruise ships will also be banned from docking in Australia for at least 30 days. They are based at Royal Perth Hospital (Ground Floor, Ainslie House, 48 Murray Street), Fiona Stanley Hospital (Allied Health 2, Gymnasiums, East End, Bedbrook Row) and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (C Block, Hospital Avenue). A new COVID clinic will open in Bunbury tomorrow on Thursday 19/3/2020 and will operate 10am - 4pm every day. In regional areas, people should go to a public hospital, health service or remote health clinic. Please call ahead if you are concerned that you have contracted COVID-19. Patients at COVID clinics are required to bring proof of recent travel or identify the confirmed case they have been in contact with. Anyone who is confirmed to have coronavirus, who does not require hospitalisation will be asked to stay in home isolation as instructed by the public health team. It is also extremely important that people who are unwell and are concerned they have COVID-19 should immediately self-isolate and then seek further medical advice. More locations for COVID clinics across the metropolitan area and in regional WA will be considered if there is a need to meet future or increased demand.
