25.01.2022 Any budding film makers out there? Super excited to see what is entered!! https://www.fungifilmfest.com/

25.01.2022 Not the pinkest of "pink Oyster" mushrooms. But certainly a nice surprise to find in the garden :)!

22.01.2022 Thank you Mats van Vliet, We are looking forward to using Local spawn in our next Cookshire workshops! :). Hi fellow myco people Quick introduction: I have Lived in and around Cooktown for the last 20 plus years.... I retired a few years ago and was looking for a hobby of some sort - guess what I picked :). Now I have a lab and flow hood, just completed a new grow room, pressure cookers, cane mulch dryer and more. It’s questionable if it’s still a hobby.. I’m starting to think I’m past the hobby stage! Just received a pallet of cane mulch and some hydrated lime so no excuses now :). Mats can be contacted through facebook for anyone wanting to organise locally produced oyster mushroom spawn, and his Partner, Helen, also sells fresh mushrooms at Cooktown markets. Good on you guys! Fantastic to see fungi cultivation starting to take off in the Cookshire area! :).

21.01.2022 Aseroe rubra, or the Starfish fungus, A common and easily identified fungus often found in garden beds and mulched areas :). Apparently it was among the first fungi to be scientifically named in Australia!

19.01.2022 Sapphire gives Great talks for those just starting out, or those who wish to deepen their knowledge :).

19.01.2022 Useful for getting to know the different fungal forms. :)

16.01.2022 Experimenting with wire grow cages. Could stand improvement,. But initial results are promising.

15.01.2022 Such an amazing creation!!! Well worth checking out her other creations (arm chairs etc!) so inspiring!! The page, Fungal Materials and Biofabrication, is full of fantastic projects and experiments, well worth a look!

15.01.2022 As north QLD fungi are so understudied, We use funds generated from our workshops to help carry out fungal surveys and collections, to increase our basic knowledge of what we actually have up here . It may surprise you to know that even rather common species of fungi up here often have not been named to Species, Genus, or even Family in some cases! So please be patient if you can’t get an ID on a fungi you have found.. often it is because there is simply not the knowledge a...vailableyet! I thought I might share some of our more exciting finds from a recent survey up in Bloomfield. Thank you to Mathew Barrett (QLD Herbarium) for Identifications. "Yellow Spines". Hormomitaria, a very poorly known genus. May be Hormomitaria sulphurea, a poorly known species described by Corner from Malaysia. Collections have not been reported or discussed in the literature since 1950. There are Subtle differences in spore size and fruitbody size however, suggesting it may not in fact be this exact species, but proving this will require more work. "Orangey-brown, dense, pancake like fruits". Hypocrealean pyrenomycete (used to be Hypocrea peltatum). A species widespread in SE Asia, but previously only recorded once in Australia (from Melville Is. by Heino Lepp in 1989). "Purple-Grey, pored, jelly like fruits". Resupinatus, likely an undescribed species. The full survey project can be viewed on iNaturalist: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/fungi-of-mangkalba Happy shrooming all :) Cheers, Ori.

12.01.2022 A short summary :)

10.01.2022 PREMIERING TOMORROW The 2020 FFF premiere is tomorrow, October 16 at 7PM PST! This first ever screening of the first ever Fungi Film Fest will include an awar...ds ceremony and the audience will get the special chance to vote for the winner of the FFF’s Audience Choice Award. And better yet, we just released a printable pdf version of the fff program! Find it at the link in our bio. If you can’t make it to the first screening, don’t fret! We’ll be showing the fest 6 times over the course the next two weeks and each screening will include an opportunity for an audience Q&A with one or more of the filmmakers. So the real question is, why haven’t you gotten your tickets yet?

04.01.2022 ATTENTION ALL: MARCH Workshop is CANCELLED. After meeting with the JCU community Garden Executive team today it has been decided that Our March Workshop, Introduction to oyster mushroom bucket cultivation, which was to be held on the 29th of March, will be Cancelled. We Know this is very disappointing for all of you who bought tickets, but we have been amazed at all your enthusiasm and excitement, so rest assured there will be other events offered in the future! We will be ...Contacting all those who booked to ensure they get refunded, and to ask if they would like to be added to a priority list for future events. The reason for the cancellation was over concerns of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Mainly the fact that this workshop would see over 30 people working in very close proximity to each other, near to a location which has a large intake of people. In past workshops, a large portion of the attendees have been older citizens also, and concerns were raised that a workshop in such conditions would put these individuals especially in unnecessary risk. At Present, our April and May workshops are still looking to run on time, but this will have to be readdressed closer to the date. Thank you all for your understanding and Patience! We look forward to seeing you all sometime in the future ! Yours sincerely, Ori and the Team, FNQ Fungi Culture.

02.01.2022 If you ever contact someone to get help with a mushroom identification, or even make a post online, please aim to give as much information as possible! Below is a chart by the QLD mycological association, listing the information likely needed to reach a definitive identification. So, Morel of the story, multiple photos, multiple angles, and a bit of butchering (So long as it is not on protected land) :).

01.01.2022 I am looking forward to the day that enlisting the help of native fungi to repair various components of the landscape is Considered normal :). A large team of international and Australian experts on land management, conservation and fungal ecology are currently creating **Australia’s first guide on practical land management Utilising the mycological kingdom!** If you are able to help support this project, Donations are currently being matched, so any contribution will go twice as far! :) Super excited for the release of Fungi4Land!

01.01.2022 A worthy rival to a flower bouquet in my opinion ...with the added bonus of being edible! Happy mothers day to all the mushroom mums and fungus fathers out there.
