24.01.2022 One from the vault! This was one of my first restorations that was start to Finnish for my uncle . Once again no before photos but it wasn’t in too bad condition but was a bit tired looking. The gun is a Winchester model70 chambered in .243 Win, the barrel was heavily fouled and the action bedding was loose and caused the barrel to touch the front of the stock part of the reason it wasn’t shooting straight. All metal parts were given a brush finish and blued . The original sc...ope was damaged so was replaced and the stock was glass bedded and the barrel was floated . The stock was pinstriped and a black fore end accent added . It was re-zeroed after some extensive barrel cleaning with copper solvent bronze brush and lots of patches and in the end it was shooting just over 1moa off a bag not bad for a 50year old gun. #restoration #winchester #243 #mackay #nqtopgun See more

23.01.2022 This next one was a joint collaboration with @benny_morgan1 and was affectionately dubbed Bon Bon , what began its life as a $50 old garden gun was slowly transformed into an apocalyptic looking beast. The overall length was reduced to a fraction over 750mm with a 16 barrel making it cat-b legal. Everything but the barrel and action was custom made and the build isn’t finished yet with plans for a pic rail and optics and whatever else takes our fancy. The use of a tube insert chambered in 44rem mag and the option to switch between 44 and 12ga makes this build versatile and fashionable in the event of an apocalypse . Stay tuned for more on the Bon Bon . #12gauge #44mag #nqtopgun #bonbon #mackay

22.01.2022 Most recent job out the door and a first for me an Australian made sportco model90 chambered in 22lr. This one wasn’t in the worst shape to begin with but had some spray paint over rust pitting so was looking a bit tired . Once the old finish was removed and all components were cleaned up they were re-painted or acid blued and the action was polished to a near mirror finish . The timber work was in good shape so a quick buff and re-sheen and made up some white accents to set it off. The mag latch needed some modification to stop the mag slopping around and occasionally causing a jam or bad feed and that’s all she wrote .

21.01.2022 Another first for me definitely not my first SMLE but a first conversion of an LE1* to an MK111 which required a sacrifice in the form of a donor MK111 after all the needed parts were removed from the donor rifle and some minor alterations and fitting work this 1902 BSA rifle was given a new outfit and should now be more than capable of serving as a dingo rifle for many years to come.

20.01.2022 This was a first for me and I must say I had a lot of fun researching and working on something as old and unique as this piece. From what I could gather this is from the late 1700’s era and most likely began its life as a flintlock pistol and I believe it originated in France or Belgium and at some stage in the early 1800’s it was converted to percussion cap pistol by British military armourers and my reasoning behind all this is far too long for a post. Quite happy with how ...it came up and it now has a functioning trigger and firing hammer as the old one was damaged and inoperable. And for anyone interested percussion cap and flintlock muzzle loading pistols made before 1800 require no firearms licence in Queensland and there is a few obsolete cartridges also available to own as display ornaments without the need for a firearms licence , if you’re interested in owning one send us a message and we would be happy to give you more information. 19.01.2022 A long awaited project completion has finally come to fruition. The devil was in the detail with many small components and large that were attended to through the restoration, add to this the incomplete nature of the original saw this old Winchester model06 awaiting delivery of timber furniture from the US giving me the time needed to do all the intricate repairs and restorations need to bring it back to (in my opinion) better than original condition. I’m happy with the final results and while I feel the photos don’t do it justice here are some of the many I captured through the process.

15.01.2022 Messing around with some filming techniques and giving an old pair of scissors I had laying around a spruce . #nqtopgun #restoration #mackay

14.01.2022 Here is a quick clip from a recent job. This small but unique piece is a 6 sided gaming die made from the armour of a panzer tank (purchased from cairns tank museum). The finish was beginning to oxidise so a polish and acid blue finish was given to the piece to protect it from the elements.

12.01.2022 Quick job in the shop today with some help from @benny_morgan1 still a work in progress with some more to be done finishing the barrel and trigger guard and sourcing some optics that will fit the 22-250. Some good progress was made so far can’t wait to see how it shoots. #zastava #restoration #mackay #nqtopgun
