22.01.2022 This is on Tomorrow. Come along there is actually nothing more important. Let’s do it together

21.01.2022 TOMORROW! At 10am, Lennox Head Cultural Centre. The new alliance, WATER Northern Rivers, will launch its inaugural campaign for smart water options instead of the proposed Dunoon Dam.

19.01.2022 Wonderful news You’re up next Queensland

18.01.2022 Mabo's proceedings in the High Court were monumental for First Nations people and for the recognition of Native Title in the highest court in the country. An incredible person we celebrate. Being reconciliation week and in light of the protests in the US, it is such an important time to start dialogues and take stances on the injustice faced to this day by First Nations people.

18.01.2022 Leadership on Affordable Housing - Our Mayor Vanessa Ekins. At the last Lismore Council Meeting - Mayor Vanessa Ekins Moved the Following Motion - which was passed - Unanimously 1. Lismore Council declares we are currently experiencing an emergency situation with respect to the lack of housing availability and affordability in our community.... 2. Council urgently writes to local Members of Parliament and relevant ministers in State and Federal Government asking that they invest in social and affordable housing in the Lismore LGA and across the Northern Rivers more broadly. 3. Council investigates affordable housing and medium density opportunities within the Lismore urban area. 4. A report be brought back to the July Council meeting outlining the findings and recommendations from point 3. 5. Council redirect $50,000 in the 2021/22 financial budget to implement the recommendations of point 4. See more

16.01.2022 The Revised Future Water 2060 Report submission period closes this Friday 28th May. It’s time to have your say. If you did a submission last year, you need to do another one. There has been a bizarre misinformed campaign to put the Dunoon Dam back on the table as a water security measure. The evidence is very clear - the Dunoon Dam WILL NOT deliver water security, will be too expensive, will destroy significant cultural heritage, will destroy koala habitat and will destroy an ancient and very rare endangered ecological community and the Channon Gorge. There are options that will deliver water security for our region - the Dunoon Dam is not part of the mix. Go to the Water Northern Rivers Alliance website, and get some ideas for how to make a submission. It could take just 2 minutes of your time but have lifetimes of importance.

14.01.2022 If you've spent any time in Melbourne's L4 lockdown, you know how crucial your phone is as a lifeline to your friends and family. So, spare a thought for the... people who have been locked up in immigration detention centres for years. There is already an excessive use of force, and now Peter Dutton wants to take people's phones away. These centres are not prisons, despite the Liberals' attempts to make them so. Mobile phones are a lifeline for refugees and people seeking asylum who have been indefinitely detained by the Morrison Government. Thank you to everyone who's signed the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC)'s petition, which is being presented to the Parliament right now. Missed out signing the petition? Help us get crossbench Senator Jackie Lambie to block this bill: 02 6277 3614 #NoPhonesNoLife #refugeeswelcome See more

10.01.2022 Please sign this petition to help establish a Youth Koori court in Lismore! Please note this is not a Greens petition, we are simply showing our support for an important initiative. Details below: The Northern Rivers and North Coast of NSW have a disproportionate number of Indigenous youth in contact with the criminal justice system. We desperately need a Youth Koori court in Lismore to service the surrounding regions so we can reduce the number of Indigenous youth in contac...t with the criminal justice system. Koori courts help Indigenous youth to feel that their culture matters and is respected. Koori courts help kids get back on track and away from the criminal justice system. Koori courts focus on rehabilitation not punishment. They have proved to be successful in turning Indigenous youths lives around and connect them back with their elders, community and culture. Koori courts reduce the likelihood of youth ending up in adult custody and reducing the risk of another Aboriginal death in custody. https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au//Pages/epetition-details

09.01.2022 Some morning history for you all

07.01.2022 A Vision, A Plan. Nation-Building and Planet-Saving.

07.01.2022 The Northern Rivers is the fastest growing region in NSW, but instead of building new public transport the Coalition and Labor are planning to rip it all up. ... The Bill before parliament would see the Casino to Murwillumbah rail line ripped up and sold-off. This despite the fact feasibility studies done by Byron Shire Council show that returning rail services to the line is absolutely possible. It’s so disappointing to see local National and Labor MPs on a unity ticket to deny the community a chance to have their say on the future of public transport in the region. The Greens will keep pushing for an inquiry and to protect the rail line from being ripped up and sold-off to developers.

07.01.2022 Another Great Greens Woman who will join your Federal Parliamentary Team as a Victorian Senator.

06.01.2022 A great idea to give some love back into our unique local businesses! What are some businesses you are excited to support in June?

06.01.2022 Gas bubbles have been known to appear on multiple sites that have been subject to coal seam gas mining, now including Chinchilla, Queensland. Please share to inform friends and family of this direct proof of the longterm damages that coal seam gas mining imposes; because stories such as this rarely get covered on mainstream media. CSG creates toxic ecosystems and toxic waterways, as well as diminishing the value of property which has long term economic impacts for farmers and homeowners. It is important to keep yourself informed about proposed coal seam gas mines such as in Narrabri so that we can work together to end this detrimental practice. https://www.abc.net.au//coal-seam-gas-water-bubb/12612922

05.01.2022 Submissions close tomorrow (Wednesday 9th September) for community opinion on the proposed Dunoon dam, so make sure you get them in as soon as possible! Regardless of what opinion you hold, having your voice heard on local matters is an essential part of democracy. We the Lismore Greens are not in favour of the proposed dam, based on a multiple of grounds: - The 50 square kilometre dam rests on a state recognised culturally significant Indigenous site - Only 2% of water usag...e goes towards drinking and cooking - It is not in line with 21st-century demand management strategies such as rainwater tank installations - Destruction of an endangered ecological community of local rainforest and koala corridors - Increased water prices for consumers Below is the link to Rous County Council's Future Water submission where you can voice your opinion on the Dunoon dam https://futurewaterproject2060.paperform.co/ If you would prefer to email your submission, please do so to [email protected] If you prefer to post your submission or deliver it in person, the information for that can be found below: https://rous.nsw.gov.au/cp_themes/default/page.asp

05.01.2022 Our Mayor Vanessa Ekins out and about in Lismore. Our high profile Croquet Club was opened in 1931 and still growing strong today with a new solar system to run the air conditioning and making it a friendly place to socialise and determine handicaps.

04.01.2022 The Nationals bizarre approach to the Berejiklian government's koala plan goes against community protection and scientific advice to preserve biodiversity. Expert voices need to be listened to and applied to environmental planning in order to preserve what remains after the tragic bushfires.

03.01.2022 Shocking news - humanities students are now to pay as much as medical students in university fees! The Coalition government has shown time and time again that they do not care about the arts or humanities - industries that have become even more valued during isolation. The Greens have been vocal in pushing for fee-free university as an investment in the future of Australia. This has been successful in countries such as Finland and Norway that have implemented it. We stand by all arts and humanities workers and thank them for their hard work!

01.01.2022 Ballina Greens MP Tamara Smith, with our Co-convenor, Gai, at Primex. If you know a regenerative farmer, Tamara would love to hear from them, as she develops a policy and parliamentary bill on regen farming - the future of agriculture. Regenerative farming adds to and improves the resources it uses, rather than destroying or depleting them.
