25.01.2022 Fifty years ago this week, November 1970, SAR Garratt 409 was unloaded at the Mile End Railway Museum. 409 was one of just four Garratts that lasted in steam at Peterborough through to January 1970. 409 can be seen departing from Port Pirie in December 1969.

24.01.2022 Let's congratulate NRM volunteer David Sandison for being awarded the latest Railway Hotel Port Adelaide sponsored NRM Volunteer for the Quarter.

23.01.2022 As we approach December and lots of things that most people get to be involved with and want to do......we thought we would give a small reflection (before the Christmas break) on the very LAST OPEN DAY at the original Mile End Railway Museum......our routes from so long ago. On Australian Day Friday 1 January 1988, virtually 33 years ago, we put on a great show and almost 3,000 people visited the Railway Terrace located Museum that day! It was a huge success, but also was a... precursor for the new National Railway Museum at Port Adelaide - with huge support from the Federal and SA Govts at the time, Australian National Railways (primarily Don Williams) and a long list of supporters. We would like to show a lot of images taken on that last day at Mile End...and genuinely encourage comments, particularly from anyone who attended that day and/or can see/recall friends or relatives who were there on that HUGE day - celebrating but not forgetting our past!
