25.01.2022 Further testament to the cohesiveness of the organisation that is North Shore Synagogue was the success of all the services over Yom Kippur following the smooth running over Rosh Hashanah. Although the service was reduced in numbers due to COVID, the organisation put together by the office staff (Claire and Marion) and the supervision of the day's proceedings by our caretaker David, made for an excellent event. About our special guest JULIAN LEESER Julian has been the Member for Berowra in the House of Representatives since July 2016. Julian is the first Jewish person elected to the House of Representatives from New South Wales for the Liberal Party. Prior to his election into Parliament, Julian was a Board Member for Parramatta & District Synagogue, a member of the Executive of NSW Jewish Board of Deputies and a Councillor of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry. Since November 2016 Julian has served as the Parliamentary representative and Non-Executive Director on the Council of the National Library of Australia. Julian has also been the Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Friends of India and has been a pro-active advocate for the Australia-India relationship. Julian previously worked as a senior executive at Australian Catholic University. He served on several boards including Mercy Health, Teach for Australia and was previously Executive Director of the Menzies Research Centre. He also worked as a lawyer at Mallesons Stephen Jacques (now King & Wood Mallesons) and was an associate to High Court Justice Ian Callinan. Julian has degrees in arts and law from the University of NSW and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He spent 2006-2007 as a Visiting Fellow at the Taubman Centre at the John F Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
