23.01.2022 Congratulations to former NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons, tonight named the NSW Australian Of The Year. 23.01.2022 What a difference a year makes! One year ago Vacy brigade headed North with a strike team to the Mid Coast area of Failford/Hallidays Point. Little did we know we were heading to a firestorm that wiped out many homes in the area. Rainbow Flat was one of the worst hit areas losing many homes including the Rainbow Flat Rural Fire Brigade shed. Vacy brigade was one of many brigades carrying out "property protection" moving from house to house as the firestorm moved through the a...rea. We later found out one of the houses we saved belonged to a member of the Rainbow Flat brigade who was out saving other homes in the area! What a night that was!!!! Thanks to the efforts of brigade members Lindsay, Mariah, Karen, Bruce, Andy and Group 4 Ken for their efforts that night. 19.01.2022 Today marks 40 years since five young lives were tragically lost battling a bush fire at Waterfall. It was 3rd November 1980 - just before 5am crews were aler...ted to a bush fire burning near McKell Avenue. Numerous brigades responded to the southern end of the Royal National Park, working to contain a large fire which was burning under mild conditions. The conditions on the day were cool, the temperature reached 19c, humidity was low and southerly winds prevailed. As the southerly winds increased in strength late afternoon, the fire transitioned from the forested area into heath, increasing the intensity and spread. The fire rapidly headed in a northerly direction towards the Uloola trail. It was on this trail where a fire tanker from Headquarters (Heathcote) Brigade was overrun by fire. It was at this location where five brave firefighters were lost - Steve Crunkhorn, 26, Gregory Rolfe, 24, Vernon Stedman, 21, William Cummings, 21 and David Marshall, 19. The fire was contained days later after burning 2,246 hectares of the Royal National Park. We remember these brave firefighters.

19.01.2022 Vacy Cat 1 Alpha, Vacy Cat 1 Bravo and Vacy Cat 7 were responded to a structure fire at Park St Gresford. A Group Captain on scene early reported it was only a backyard burnoff. We were then stood down. All 3 trucks and members returned to our station. It was another great turnout of 16 volunteer members.

16.01.2022 The fire danger in the Vacy area today is SEVERE and a Total Fire Ban is in place until midnight. In a Total Fire Ban no fire may be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended. Under these conditions leaving early is the safest option for your survival. Only consider staying if you are prepared to the highest level such as your home is specially designed, constructed or modified, and situated to withstand a fire, you are well prepared and can actively defend it if a fire starts.

16.01.2022 Vacy Cat 1 Alpha and Vacy Cat 7 responded to a truck fire on the crest of Lambs Valley road this evening. The cab was fully consumed when we arrived with the driver receiving minor burns trying to extinguish it. Police and Ambulance attended the scene as well. Great turnout by 10 brigade members.

04.01.2022 Here's a sign it's going to be cold this weekend With parts of the state expecting temp's below zero, snow on the alps and summer a distant memory, many of... us will be turning on the heater, lighting the fire and pulling out the blankets. So keep flammables a 'metre from the heater' and most importantly test that smoke alarm. See more

01.01.2022 Our Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook: December 2020 February 2021 is out today, and shows that large parts of NSW west of the Great Dividing Range face ab...ove normal fire conditions, as well as grassland areas of the ACT and into north eastern Victoria. Grass and crop fires are the main concern in these locations for the summer months as the growth dries out in the warmer weather. WA has largely missed out on the rainfall in 2020 and conditions are very dry, with parts of the south and south west coasts expecting above normal fire conditions through summer.
