16.01.2022 Wet weekend ahead with possible severe weather! Good time to prep your home now The BOM forecasters suggest that a Coastal Low will develop on the weekend, with central and northern parts of the NSW coast currently being the most favoured areas to affect. Please note:... 1. It is too early to pin-point precisely how the low will develop, and its exact location and intensity will drive the final impact. 2. Depending on how close to the NSW coast the low develops, and how long it lingers, there is potential for severe weather conditions, such as: Areas of heavy rainfall, causing road and riverine flooding. Locally damaging winds, strong enough to bring down trees and powerlines mainly near the coast. Large and powerful waves, resulting in hazardous beach conditions and the potential for coastal erosion. As the system moves away from the coast, there is potential for Lord Howe island to experience heavy rain and large surf. NOW is a good time to prepare your home while the weather is good. Quick Tips.... Check and clean your gutters Secure any outdoor items including furniture and trampolines Move your vehicle and don't park under branches or trees. For more information on preparing your home: https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au//simple-thi/prepare-for-a-storm To keep up to date with warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology: Go to www.bom.gov.au

16.01.2022 IDN21037 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Weather Warning... for DAMAGING SURF For people in parts of Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra and South Coast Forecast Districts. Issued at 2240 hrs Wednesday, 15 July 2020. HEAVY SEAS ALONG PARTS OF THE NSW COAST Weather Situation: A deep and slow-moving low pressure system is centred over the central Tasman Sea. This system is bringing powerful waves to parts of the New South Wales coast. The low is expected to weaken and move away to the east later in the week, bringing an easing of conditions. VERY HEAVY SURF which may lead to localised damage and coastal erosion is possible for coastal areas of the Illawarra, Sydney Metropolitan, Hunter (including Central Coast) and Mid North Coast districts, and also for the northern part of the South Coast District. South and southeast facing parts of the coast are most at risk. Beach conditions in these areas could be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas. A Hazardous Surf Warning is also current along the entire New South Wales Coast. Surf conditions are expected to gradually ease from Thursday. Locations which may be affected include Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, The Entrance, Foster, Kiama and Moruya Heads. Peak waves exceeding 11.5 metres have been measured by a wave rider buoy just offshore of Sydney this morning. Peak waves exceeding 9 metres were also recorded at wave rider buoys just offshore of Batemans Bay, Coffs Harbour and Crowdy Head (on the Mid North Coast) this morning. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 0500 hrs Thursday. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. 09.01.2022 Severe Weather Risk DOWNGRADED but NSW SES Still Urges Residents to Stay Alert and Prepare for Possible Impacts The Bureau of Meteorology have downgraded the ri...sk of severe weather for Mid North Coast and Hunter area as models now forecast the East Coast Low to predominantly affect areas South of Sydney. While the forecast is downgraded for the Mid North Coast and Hunter area, the Bureau have still forecast widespread rainfall with possible storms, strong winds and damaging surf along the NSW coast. The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is still encouraging residents to use the weekend to prepare for possible adverse weather. NSW SES Northern Zone Deputy Commander Tony Day said, It is likely the main impact of this weather event will be in the area from south of Port Stephens. NSW SES urges residents in these areas to stay informed and prepare for possible impacts. NSW SES is encouraging residents to clean roofs, gutters and downpipes, trim trees branches away from property and secure down outdoor items and furniture as a way of preparing their property for severe weather. Mr. Day continued, "The current COVID-19 environment presents additional considerations for emergency services in responding to severe weather events. So the most practical way the community can help should the heavy rain eventuate is to avoid all not essential travel and to never drive, ride or walk through floodwaters." The SES recommends people monitor the NSW Bureau of Meteorology for any severe weather warnings. For more advice on how to prepare for storms and floods, visit the SES Get Ready website www.ses.nsw.gov.au/getready . For emergency storm and flood assistance call NSW SES on 132 500. #MNC #Hunter

07.01.2022 CHANGES IN NSW SES PROCEDURES: COVID-19 Given the expected length of the COVID-19 emergency the NSW SES has changed our call taking and response procedures so our volunteers can stay safe whilst helping communities during storms and floods. In taking your call for emergency assistance we will ask if anyone at the property has flu-like symptoms or has been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus. ... NSW SES will still respond to your request if you say yes to any or both of these questions. They will just use this information to use risk mitigation strategies so they can stay safe. While our NSW SES Response Team is traveling to your property they may contact you via mobile phone seeking pictures or videos of the damage to your home or business. NSW SES volunteers will maintain appropriate physical distancing whilst at your property and may need to communicate with you via mobile phone in some circumstances. We may also provide self- help advice so you can do temporary repairs to your own home or business. We will only do this if appropriate and safe to do so, given the circumstances and nature of the damage and actions required to make your property safe. We appreciate your support whilst we implement these important measures so we can continue to provide emergency services to the community while protecting the safety of our volunteers. For emergency assistance in storms and floods call NSW SES on 132 500.
