Low...er parts of the region are being impacted by flash flooding with reports of water over many local roads. - Newcastle Unit has recieved over 100 calls for assistance. - Lake Macquarie has received over 50 calls Storm damage and flood rescue personnel are triaging and responding to these calls as quickly as possible. 18.01.2022 Minor Flood bulletin As a result of heavy rainfall in the Goulburn River catchment area, land owners and farmers living adjacent to the Hunter River downstream of Sandy Hollow are advised to keep a watch on the river and if necessary relocate or secure farm machinery, irrigation pumps and quarry equipment. If necessary, farmers should move livestock to higher ground. Rising water may initially affect low-lying farmland and local roads near rivers and creeks. Minor flooding is forecast for the Wollombi Brook Area, impacting on the towns and surrounding areas of Broke, Bulga, Laguna, Millfield, Wollombi, Brickmans Bridge, Ellalong,Paxton. River levels at Bulga have risen lower than previously expected and river height predictions have been lowered to reflect upstream levels. Heavy rainfall has been recorded across the Wollombi Brook catchment in the past two days. This rain is expected to cause minor flooding along the Wollombi Brook at Bulga. The Wollombi Brook at Wollombi is expected to remain below the minor flood level. What we are expecting: Minor flooding is likely along the Wollombi Brook. The Wollombi Brook at Bulga is likely to peak near 3.40 metres around 01:00 am Wednesday with minor flooding.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Orange, Moree, Narrabri and Dubbo. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Upper Western district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED. A wind gust of 96 km/h was reported at Cobar weather Station at around 3pm Large hail has been reported near Wagga Wagga as storms moved through. 25mm was reported in 30 mins at Carabost to 3pm. 26mm was reported in 15 mins at Forbes to 5pm. 02.01.2022 When Jesse Roberts moved back to Singleton to further his career as a power station operator, his first day on the job was also his first as a volunteer with th...e Singleton State Emergency Service (SES). Almost five years later, he continues to juggle shift work with SES commitments including commander of Cessnock SES and team leader at Singleton but he wouldnt have it any other way. Singleton-born and Central Coast-raised, Jesse began volunteering with the Volunteer Rescue Association when he moved to Lithgow after completing his trade, responding to road crashes, vertical rescue, industrial/domestic incidents and urban searches. Youve got to give back to your community, he said. Believe it or not, I was just driving past the VRA one day and thought, I should do that. My first job was a land search for a girl that very sadly ended up being a body recovery. Then when I came to Singleton, the first day I started in my new job was the day I started with the SES. That was three weeks before the April super storm. It went from zero to 100 pretty quickly. Jesse has since been involved in a range of operations, but one that particularly stands out is the four-and-a-half day search for a mother and son in Mt Royal two years ago. Fortunately, it had a happy ending. The work of the SES will be on display at the Singleton Emergency Services Expo on Saturday 28 March 2020, when the NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, Fire and Rescue, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter will also be among the organisations at Civic Park from 9am to 12pm. Jesse said it was worthwhile to come and see the emergency services in action without the need for an emergency rescue or response. He said helping people when they needed it most was its own reward, and there were plenty of benefits to volunteering with the SES. You get paid in cups of tea and thank yous, he said. The Singleton SES is a good team with people you can rely on. Im not an expert in all the fields, but weve got people with 30 years, 20 years and 15 years experience. And we have people coming in all the time with different backgrounds and different skills, so you never stop learning. Id easily recommend it to other people. It can be demanding, but the good times far outweigh any bad times. You learn a lot of skills, and its a great way to give back. I honestly dont believe that were here just to look after ourselves youve got to look after your neighbours. 01.01.2022 CHANGES IN NSW SES PROCEDURES: COVID-19 Given the expected length of the COVID-19 emergency the NSW SES has changed our call taking and response procedures so our volunteers can stay safe whilst helping communities during storms and floods. In taking your call for emergency assistance we will ask if anyone at the property has flu-like symptoms or has been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus. ... NSW SES will still respond to your request if you say yes to any or both of these questions. They will just use this information to use risk mitigation strategies so they can stay safe. While our NSW SES Response Team is traveling to your property they may contact you via mobile phone seeking pictures or videos of the damage to your home or business. NSW SES volunteers will maintain appropriate physical distancing whilst at your property and may need to communicate with you via mobile phone in some circumstances. We may also provide self- help advice so you can do temporary repairs to your own home or business. We will only do this if appropriate and safe to do so, given the circumstances and nature of the damage and actions required to make your property safe.
