18.01.2022 Here’s what some of you have been telling us about your COVID-19 vaccination experience. Thank you to everyone who has been vaccinated so far for helping keep us all safe.

18.01.2022 My passion for public health started in China with the SARS outbreak. My grandpa was a surgeon, my aunt was a nurse and my mum worked in medical research, and I didn’t see them for months when they were quarantined. That’s what started my interest in medicine, and I specialised in epidemiology to help prevent and control disease. So working in the vaccination clinic doesn’t scare me. I want to do something to help and this is a very exciting role. My job is to make sure all ...the details are in order before the nurse can give the vaccine. Some people are really excited and some are a bit anxious, so when I notice that I try to help reassure and calm them. We’re doing what we can to control this disease and prevent suffering and that’s exactly what I’m passionate about. We're so grateful for amazing people like Anastasia, an administration officer at the Westmead Hospital COVID-19 vaccination clinic which is currently vaccinating eligible frontline workers and people from western Sydney. : Western Sydney Health

13.01.2022 "I'm Chau, I work for the NSW Department of Health, and I've been a carer since I was six years old. I'm a primary carer for my brother who lives with me and I also care for my mum on an as-needed basis. They both have a psychosocial disability. Being a carer is both fun productive, and at same time tiring and challenging. My role is to offer comfort, encouragement, reassurance, and help them stay as independent as possible to live a normal life. For anyone who is a carer, a...nd especially those new to the role, these are my best tips: 1 Reach out to support services in your local area, don't be afraid to ask questions and connect with people who are empathetic not sympathetic. 2 Seek respite services for you to have a break and have your own time. Find other peer groups and participate in social activities. 3 Continue to chase your passions, dreams and goals. Don’t worry about what others think, just be true to yourself. 4 Look after your own personal health and wellbeing. Feeling overwhelmed and burnt out by the level of commitment is normal. Take care of you. 5 Share your experiences with others. They can learn from you and you can learn from them. So, why do I do this? I care because I love to give to others and make them feel positive, happy and supported, no matter how little or big it is. It's good to know that they are not alone and that help is there in solidarity." Chau, Admin Officer, NSW Department of Health. It's #NationalCarersWeek and we're celebrating all 850,000 carers in NSW and over 2.7 million across Australia, just like Chau. Thank you for the enormous contribution you make to our communities

06.01.2022 "Believe in yourself, take risks in your teaching method, never become too comfortable, and most of all, learn from your students - they are our greatest teachers. I've been teaching for 21 years. Before teaching, I was a forensic chemist. I was given the opportunity to develop and teach a hands-on forensic chemistry program for primary students. Their excitement and curiosity to learn completely changed my journey. I have been teaching ever since that day. I recently won the... NSW VET Trainer/Teacher of the Year after being nominated for developing a holistic, practical experience, learning environment through a student-led cafe. The cafe allows students to be trained in all areas of Hospitality, attaining real-life experience, and leading to student employment opportunities. I couldn't sleep one night and the next morning presented my Principal with a business plan to open a student-led cafe. I asked her to let me take a risk because I would rather the idea fail than never try. Eight days later my hospitality class opened @thecaffeinelab. The following year, the Hospitality program grew from 41 to 149 students, the year after that a quarter of the school cohort participated in the classes. The cafe allows a space where everyone in our school is equal and valued. On average 130 espresso coffees, 60 non-alcoholic drinks and 120 breakfasts are served in a period of 45 minutes!" - Megan Renwick, Hospitality and Chemistry Teacher, Winmalee High School.
