25.01.2022 Call for transport - one of our fellow Heroners needs his Heron transported from Brisbane to Sydney. It is on a normal trolley. (Even getting it as far as Coffs/Port Macquarie would be enough!). Please message us if you can help (and earn a few dollars along the way!)

25.01.2022 Following is the latest advice from Australian Sailing - Be assured, the NSW Heron Association is keeping abreast of any updates or changes to community advice, and as each scheduled event approaches we will advise accordingly of any changes to ensure our compliance.

25.01.2022 Our dedicated starters tried their best to get racing happening!

25.01.2022 Whilst the flooding in Narrabeen was significant, the sailing club managed come out of the whole event unscathed. The Inter-Club and NSW Heron Junior State Titles will be proceeding this weekend at NLSC as planned.

25.01.2022 The Qld Heron 'semi-trailer' has had a fantastic facelift. Well known for shipping 6 or 7 boats at a time to regattas all over the country, won't be missed by anyone now!!!

24.01.2022 The Sailing Instructions for next weekend's NSW Junior States has been published on the website. http://nsw.heronsailing.com.au//SIs_Heron_Youth_States_201

24.01.2022 Many Australian sailors started on the water in a Heron, and as a result there are a lot of enquiries for tracing older boats. The National Association website has a new page in progress, to help you reminisce or maybe find 'that special boat'! http://heronsailing.com.au/tracing-older-herons/

24.01.2022 Congratulations to Peter and Joel Vaiciurgis for winning the 2020/21 NSW Heron Titles sailing their new boat 10353 - 'Wise Old Owl'. Full results at http://www.sailingresults.com.au//Defau/class-results.php

24.01.2022 State Titles update - latest count has us at 35 boats! Those who indicated they wish to camp have been emailed directly, please check your inbox and follow instructions to secure your spot. On arrival, please sign in all attendees via QR code at the club and follow directions for parking and rigging area.... On the all important food front and again in line with Covid-19 regulations... - BBQ style breakfast available both Sat/Sun mornings - canteen open from 10am for sandwiches, pies/sausage rolls, drinks. Will stay open after racing for takeway items - no evening meal available at club, but Davistown RSL is very close by, as are several takeaway restaurants, pizza and eateries not far away. The club BBQ may be available to cook yourself by request.

24.01.2022 Three races completed today at the State Titles at Saratoga - amazingly tight racing throughout the whole fleet, and plenty of position changes with a Black Flag start in the last race. Weather was hot!, but the club did a great job with the courses and a short break between races so we could all refill and cool in the shade. Earlier start tomorrow - please note 9:55am warning signal. (fingers crossed the forecasts are wrong!) Results up at http://www.sailingresults.com.au//Defau/class-results.php

24.01.2022 Here is the link to the event page to post your attendance record over the weekend.

24.01.2022 Great condition, removed back thwart and floorboards, replaced all control lines, new standing rigging, sails are in good condition for age, stainless steel trolley. No trailer but happy to help with local delivery. Ready to race or cruise. Pick up Moorooka.

22.01.2022 Still on the lookout for boats for sale - we need 3 good Fibreglass boats, and a couple of project boats for new members. Have a look around your club on the weekend for boats not sailing, and if you know of any please send us a message!

22.01.2022 Some great footage sent to us of 9261 - Blue Hula sailing at Coffs Harbour on the weekend.

21.01.2022 To help you get thru the 'long winter', the first 3 videos in a new series on Heron Sailing, by Rohan and Aidan, are up on YouTube. 6 more videos to come in the next few weeks, so let us know if there is any specific content you would love to see! Ep 1 - https://youtu.be/8VKckptlndE Ep 2 - https://youtu.be/fOiSitrVM6w Ep 3 - https://youtu.be/Tx_fkP0NMjE

21.01.2022 One of the annual highlights of the Heron Nationals is 'Heron Idol'. A talent show for the 'kids', but one of the highlights is always when the SA ukeleles appear - this year's performance was a cracker!

21.01.2022 Great to see 20 Herons attend the Dobroyd Interclub event (despite the very ordinary weather!). Results will be posted later in the week, but the club kindly sent through a bunch of terrific photos from the day - https://photos.app.goo.gl/bTJ6SDBmEfxNBC787

21.01.2022 Great to see the fleet doing the miles - a fantastic weekend of Heron sailing to look forward to at Saratoga!

21.01.2022 Fantastic weekend of racing - Results at Sailingresults.com.au

21.01.2022 The 5th Annual Single Handed World Championship has been run and won. Congratulations to Paul Armstrong (the 2nd) for an outstanding performance in taking out 4 of the 5 heats of the Championship. The series was conducted over 2 days with 2 great middle distance races on Saturday with a nice southerly breeze and 3 sprint series heats on Sunday with a late easterly breeze that started variable but set in nicely for the last 2 heats.... The racing was close for most heats and Paul had to work hard to achieve his results. 12 herons took part and over the 2 days and on the Saturday 2 boats participated with a crew due to the changed arrangement in respect of the previously scheduled Interclub race. 1 heron had a combined junior crew who were treated as a single hander for the series. And now for the results 1st O For Awesome Paul Armstrong 2nd Flat Chat Steve Imlay 3rd Heronasaurus Travis Read 4th Grey Pearl Peter Connor 5th Rogue One Russell Sullivan 6th Lets Play Mick Armstrong 7th Lottie Peter Jessep 8th Gone Bananas Xavier Armstrong and Flynn Read 9th One Last Time Mark Levy ( and Sarah for the Saturday race) 10th Normie Chris Gothard 11th Third Time Lucky Scott Maddock 12th Gay Abandon Warren Monaghan The format of the racing was so popular that we anticipate a 2 day event for the Championship next year. Also to help everyone get through the sailing blues I have attached some photos of the event.

If you are stuck at home, why not catch up on the latest newsletter at: http://www.heronsailing.com.au/News/59-1%20March%202020.pdf

20.01.2022 Coffs Harbour Regatta - plenty of wind, plenty of waves and a whole lot of close racing (and a bit cold and wet, but there was pumpkin soup and hot showers!)

18.01.2022 Sunday sailing at NLSC

18.01.2022 The 2020/21 NSW Heron sailing calendar is in the final steps of being confirmed, with just the details of the NSW State Titles to be locked in. (Pencil in the weekend of 28/29 Nov for the event with the venue to be in the Central Coast/Newcastle area). Events already confirmed are on the Events part of this Facebook page and on the Heron Forum website https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/heron-sailors The Association will be closely monitoring Government Policy and advice as it changes, and will advise any alterations or special requirements for these events with as much notice as possible. We can't wait for the season to kick off and hope that all the great boat work we have been seeing over the winter results in big fleets and a huge season of fun racing!

18.01.2022 Great story - hopefully will see it on the water again soon.

17.01.2022 For those of you that are travelling to Narrabeen Lakes tomorrow from outside the Northern Beaches we have parking permits for all competitors and their onshore support team for the whole weekend.

13.01.2022 We are pleased to advise that Australian Sailing along with other NSW State Sporting Organisations has received this morning from NSW Office of Sport and NSW Health changes to the requirement for the regional restrictions. From Saturday 26 September, interregional community sporting competitions can recommence without restricting these activities to regions or zones, where there is a COVID-19 Safety Plan for the community sporting activity in place. The advice provided in Aug...ust regarding limiting spectators to one parent per child, and inter-region sport and recreation activities has been removed, however organisations must still ensure their activity is delivered in compliance with the Public Health Order and the COVID-19 Safety Plan requirements. This includes the requirement to: Adhere to the 500-person limit for community sport activities (including participants, officials and spectators) and/or adhering to the one person per four square metre rule in indoor spaces. Organisations and spectators are to ensure that physical distancing of at least 1.5 metres is maintained between people that do not come from the same household. Sailing organisations and participants should continue to avoid shared travel arrangements such as car-pooling, along with minimising social gatherings before and after the event. We appreciate your clubs support in reducing the risk of community transmission at this critical time and for the patience and understanding over the last couple weeks whilst dealing with the recommended restrictions from NSW Health. Australian Sailing are continuing to work with NSW Health to best ensure sailing is able to proceed going forward in a normal fashion. Many thanks again for your clubs assistance and please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions Carl Webster Regional Manager NSW/ACT

12.01.2022 Don't forget the first round of the Interclub series, 'at-your-club', this weekend. Wind is looking good with sea breezes predicted right up the east coast. Take lots of photos of your Herons getting out there and share your results and stories with us all afterwards!

12.01.2022 Happy New Year to all our Heron sailors! As with everything this sailing season, we have had to shuffle a few events around to fit in with cancelled and rescheduled regattas. Next event is the Interclub Race 3 - which will be held at Concord-Ryde SC on February 27th in conjunction with the big 75th Anniversary celebrations happening at the club. The Heron Junior States (27/28 March) at Narrabeen, and Port Hacking Singlehander event (Mar 13/14) are both scheduled to go ahead in March. nsw.heronsailing.com.au has the latest list of events, and this Facebook page will be updated if anything else changes!

This would fit your enquirers as a bargain project on your recent post. The boat comes with a fully registered trailer, purposefully built dolly and a full set of sails. Selling as is. 11.01.2022 We have had to make a change to Race 1 of the Interclub Series Club Trophy over the weekend of the 19th and 20th of September, 2020. NOTE - The event is NOT being held at Concord-Ryde Sailing Club on the 19/9. In light of recent Government advice, regarding regattas and limiting regional/district movements, the series will now be scored via participation at your LOCAL CLUB.... The current plan is to utilise 'RaceQs' and have anyone wishing to be scored for the series, to upload their tracking from racing at their normal club course that weekend. Exact details will be advised as we get closer, but our goal is to have Herons racing on the water all over NSW that weekend and still be able to share our experiences and performances!

11.01.2022 Heron 4075 Zenith, Skippered by Charlie Grimwood. Concord-Ryde Sailing Club, Parramatta River. 1970 State Champion CRSC Heron Champion 10 years running

10.01.2022 The Coffs Harbour Off-The-Beach dinghy regatta is shaping up to be a great one for the Heron fleet, and the local Community and Regional support is huge! Heaps of prizes on offer, and the social side of things will be terrific. Not long now - April 17/18 - get you entries in! https://www.revolutionise.com.au/chyc/events/89494/

09.01.2022 RaceQs Tracking options... I'll do a future post on how we are going to combine our tracking from around the various clubs, but in the meantime here are some options for devices to actually get that track from your boat! (Please comment if you have other options) Cheap... - basic Android phone - Aust Post shops are good for these - sometimes as cheap as $29. Install RaceQs app and put the phone in a ziplock bag. You don't even need to activate the Sim card (no ongoing cost)... if you connect to wifi to upload your track. https://auspost.com.au//p/telstra-essential-smart-2-45466 - an old iphone that can hold charge for a couple of hours will work! I have a waterproof case that I bought for $10 on ebay, it has a velcro strip glued to it and can attach to the bulkhead. Good thing about the phone options is being able to take photos on the water, an emergency contact device, games for the crew if there is no wind too! Mid-range... - any handheld GPS device that has tracks - plug it into your PC at home and manually upload from that. Garmin etrex 10 is fully waterproof and costs about $130. - most car Navman/TomTom units have tracking, and can be found anywhere from $100 up. Just check the track is able to be exported. Other options... - Velocitek Speedpuck or Prostart ($$$). - Garmin GPS Watch like Fenix or Forerunner series you use for cycling/running, etc. There is a RaceQs watch app that uploads automatically and has a great start timer and other features. - Apple or Samsung Smart watch. 08.01.2022 Out of 54 boats, 11 of them were skippered by wonder women from all over Australia. It’s amazing to see so much girl power as they all did an outstanding job in the competition.

06.01.2022 State Titles this weekend! Weather is looking great, and fleet numbers are strong- please enter NOW if you haven't already done so! Sailing Instructions and more info will be posted in the coming days. In the meantime, a quick note below from NSW Heron Measurement Committee re: NSW States Measurement With all the great refurb work going on over the winter, and so many boats undergoing the removal of floorboards and rear seats, the Measurement Committee will be checking a co...uple of items on boats this weekend at the State Titles. 1. If you have modified your boat from when it was previously measured, please arrive ready for your boat to be weighed on Sat Morning. We will have hanging scales setup ready, so this shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes for each boat. 2. Mainsail tack attachment please refer to the measurement form notes A1.0 Mainsail The tack of the mainsail shall be fixed to the gooseneck or end of the boom adjacent to the mast in one position while sailing. There have been quite a few instances noted of sails ‘floating’ well above the gooseneck, and are taking advantage of increasing the hoist height of the mainsail. A simple hook or shackle laced to the gooseneck will suffice. Peter Vaiciurgis and Paul Armstrong will be there to help out and answer any questions you have.

01.01.2022 INTERESTED IN CREWING ON A DINGHY OR SAILING YOUR OWN BOAT WE MAY HAVE CREW POSTIONS AVAILABLE @ PHOSC Come sailing on the beautiful waters of Port Hacking w...ith Port Hacking Open Sailing Club located at Yowie Bay. Our fleet consists mainly of Flying 11's, Herons & NS14's (Northbridge Senior), with races run every Sunday from September to April (excluding school holidays). Whether you are interested in skippering your own boat or becoming a regular crew member, there is something for everyone from the social to the competitive sailor, catering for the young to the more mature ages. We welcome new boats to the club & our skippers are always looking for crew, whether they are experienced or just interested in learning and developing their sailing skills. There are also some club boats available on request to try out, if you already have some sailing skills. Due to the competitive nature of racing, the physical demands & the limited space available on dinghys, some skippers will have specific preferences relating to a suitable crew member, however we will try to accomodate you at the club to get you involved in the great sport of sailing. If youre just interested to see if either of these classes would suit you, please feel free to turn up on any Sunday that we are racing (~ midday) to have a closer look. To enquire about competing in your own boat or crewing opportunities @ PHOSC, please contact us with some details at [email protected] See more

01.01.2022 In light of the current easing of restrictions around community sport and travel, we are pleased to confirm the upcoming Interclub Event at Dobroyd on Oct 24, and the NSW State Titles at Saratoga on Nov 28/29 will be proceeding. Notice of Race and Entries will be opening very soon for the States, and we would encourage you to enter well before the closing date so we can ensure we have everything in place to comply with whatever government advice is in place at that time.
