25.01.2022 Communities across the country will today pause and remember all those around the world who have lost their lives during conflict. Please join us at 11:00am for a minute of silence to remember. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning... We will remember them. Lest we forget.

24.01.2022 We are tracking a number of storms across the state including recent activity in the area of West Wyalong. These storms are producing lightning with not much rain that may cause new fires. It's important to report all new fires to Triple Zero (000) and know what you will do if fire threatens.

19.01.2022 Martins Rd fire, Myrtle Park (Berrigan LGA). A grass fire is burning at Myrtle Park, to the east of Coree Rd approximately 15km west of Finley. The fire is burning in a southerly direction under northerly winds and has crossed the Riverina Highway, which may be closed. Crews are on scene working to slow the spread of the fire and the Large Air Tanker has been dispatched to assist. There are a number of isolated properties in the area and residents are advised to monitor conditions, take advice from firefighters in the area and enact their bush fire survival plan.

18.01.2022 The NSW RFS is proud to have the single largest aerial fleet of any fire agency in Australia! Minister for Emergency Services David Elliott and Commissioner Rob Rogers unveiled the full firefighting fleet of the NSW RFS aircraft at RAAF Base at Richmond today, which includes the Citation jet, new helicopters with increased capacity and the 737 Large Air Tanker.

18.01.2022 There's still time for you to share your experiences as part of the research the UOW: University of Wollongong, Australia and the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC are carrying out on our behalf following last bush fire season... The 2019-20 season was the most challenging NSW has ever faced - and took an enormous toll on our communities. After major events like this, we conduct research to better understand how people prepared and responded to the fires. You may have been impacted by the fires, or you may have been travelling in an area that was impacted. If so, we are keen to hear from you. 14.01.2022 Many people across NSW work to protect communities, from emergency services through to those on the frontline of health. Today we give a shout out to our Corrective Services NSW colleagues who are celebrating #NationalCorrectionsDay, which recognises their valuable contribution in protecting the community and supporting offenders to reduce reoffending #NCD21

14.01.2022 Congratulations - a great example of the community and our amazing NSW RFS volunteers working together to keep everyone safe across the fire season.

14.01.2022 Every day emergency services are on the frontline working to keep communities safe - and there's a few simple things you can do to help keep everyone safe and stop the spread of COVID-19. Wear a mask, sanitise your hands and practice physical distancing.

13.01.2022 Good rains, good growth. The recent wet weather continues to provide ideal growing conditions for grass lands, particularly west of the divide. High fuel loads are being recorded in the Riverina, Dubbo, Forbes, Inverell and Coonabarabran areas. This may prove problematic in the coming months.

12.01.2022 Watch and Act - Martins Rd fire, Myrtle Park (Berrigan LGA). The fire is burning to the east of Coree Rd and Tuppal Rd, approximately 15km west of Finley and is moving in south easterly direction under strong north west winds. The Riverina Highway has been closed between Retreat Hall Road and to the west of Finley. Firefighters are starting to get the upper hand on parts of the fire, assisted by aircraft including the Large Air Tanker.

12.01.2022 Forecast increasing temperatures and winds will elevate fire danger across the weekend and through to Tuesday, particularly in the northeast of the state on Monday. Very High Fire danger is forecast for the Far North Coast, New England and North Western tomorrow. Monday will see the potential for Very High fire danger from the Central West and Sydney through to the North and Far North Coast and North Western areas. Know the fire danger where you are and discuss your bush fire survival plan. Know what you and your household will do if threatened by fire. For more information visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fdr

11.01.2022 Firefighters are responding to a grass fire burning near Rosedale Rd in Dubbo. Currently there are no homes at threat. In the past couple of hours there have been a number of new fires reported as a result of lightning activity. If you do see an unattended fire report it to Triple Zero.

11.01.2022 It looks like firefighters might be given an early Christmas present. At this stage, the forecast for Christmas Day indicates Low/Moderate fire danger across most of NSW, however there may be some areas of High fire danger across the Riverina and Central West. The best news is that Total Fire Bans are unlikely. Fingers crossed.

10.01.2022 The rain is welcome but it brings another risk. As grass dries out, the risk of dangerous grass fires increases. Grass fires are dangerous - they start easily and spread quickly. Check www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/grassfires for tips on getting ready this season. #NSWRFS

10.01.2022 A year ago today, our hearts were broken with the loss of two of our volunteers - Deputy Captain Geoffrey Keaton and firefighter Andrew O’Dwyer. The two young dads from the Horsley Park Rural Fire Brigade were tragically killed when a tree hit the fire truck they were in at Buxton, south-west of Sydney. Today, many of our members will take a moment for quiet reflection, to give thanks and remember.... Sadly, Geoff and Andrew were two of four NSW RFS members who lost their lives last season and we will mark the anniversary of the loss of Sam McPaul and Colin Burns in the days ahead. And we will also remember the lives of the three American aircrew who died when a Large Air Tanker crashed in January. While we reflect on the terrible loss, including for members of the community, we are also grateful for the support, friendship and camaraderie shown over the last year, in such a difficult time for so many people. Days like this are tough and support is available. Lifeline 13 11 14 Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636 For NSW RFS members, you can contact the Critical Incident Support Services Team or the Member Assistance Program for free support.

08.01.2022 Here's something to brighten up your day - students at Santa Sabina College sent us these colourful notes and cards, thanking firefighters for their efforts last summer. Nice work!

08.01.2022 Were you affected by the NSW bushfires in 2019/20? After major events like this, we conduct community research to better understand how people prepared and responded to the fires. Find the online survey at http://bit.ly/nswbushfiresearch

08.01.2022 Although there are no Total Fire Bans in place tomorrow, there will be elevated fire risk due to forecast hot, dry and windy conditions. Very High fire danger is forecast for many areas of NSW including the Riverina, Central Ranges and Greater Sydney. Know what you and your family will do if fire threatens and report all new unattended fires immediately to Triple Zero (000).

08.01.2022 This National Volunteer Week we’re sharing stories from just some of our incredible members. Meet Elisabeth Goh who joined the Hornsby Heights Rural Fire Brigade in 2018 thanks to her mum’s encouragement for her to belong to something bigger and give back to the community. Elisabeth has a strong focus on community engagement in her role with the brigade. She encourages her fellow members to find what they’re passionate about at their brigade, whether it’s community engagement..., engineering, catering, or several other roles. Based on some of her experiences, Elisabeth has created photo essays where she shares what it’s like to be a firefighter with the NSW RFS. For information joining the NSW RFS, visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/volunteer

07.01.2022 North Head Fire: The fire has progressed south to the look out. Crews are currently completing backburning on the southern side of North Head Scenic Drive to link the fire to a previously hazard reduced area. Fire activity is expected to reduce over the coming hours. There is no threat to homes in the area. Photo: Jake Cameron

07.01.2022 The National Emergency Services Memorial is being held in Canberra this morning. You can watch it live here https://youtu.be/ZvD9xEfSsfM

07.01.2022 What a difference a year makes. On 29 October 2019 there was nearly 100 bush fires burning across the state, with some fires at Emergency Warning level. Twelve months to the day, weather conditions are very different, as is the level of fire activity. Remember fire conditions will return, so why not take the time now to discuss your plan with your family.

06.01.2022 Due to deteriorating weather conditions landholders undertaking harvest operations in the Forbes, Parkes, Lachlan and Weddin Local Government Areas (LGAs) are advised to stop and check weather conditions before deciding to continue. www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/harvesting-guide #NSWRFS

05.01.2022 North Head Fire: NSW RFS firefighters last night were able to assist FRNSW and NPWS in holding the fire south along the North Head Scenic Drive and link it up with a previously hazard reduced area near the ‘Hole in the Wall’ trail. National Parks and Wildlife crews will continue to patrol the area across the day. There were no threats to homes and there has been no reported injuries. Light rain has fallen across the fireground and while there is some smoke rising from the area fire activity today is expected to be minimal. Photo Shannon Mason NSW RFS

05.01.2022 Hot weather is coming to parts of NSW over the next few days. The recent rain means increased growth and as it dries out, the risk of fire will increase. Take the time now to know your risk and get ready. Check www.myfireplan.com.au for advice on making your bush fire survival plan.

04.01.2022 Would you use a push mower or ride on? NSW RFS mitigation crews have been busy in the Riverina cutting firebreaks and reducing hazards. We hope your lawn doesn’t look like this otherwise we know what you will be doing this weekend.

03.01.2022 Some sad news for the NSW RFS family. Albert Newtown, who was recently recognised for 70 incredible years of service protecting his local community, passed away this week. Albert was an important part of the Bilpin brigade and our thoughts are with the brigade, as well as Albert's family and friends.

03.01.2022 It’s National Volunteer Week and we’d like to say thank you to all our incredible members for the contribution they make to the NSW RFS and communities across the state. Throughout the week we’ll be highlighting some stories from our members so stay tuned. Please join us in thanking all those who volunteer for their selfless and invaluable contribution.

03.01.2022 NSW RFS helicopters and aviation rescue crews have been assisting the NSW SES over recent days across the state. Our crew on standby at Moree have captured this great shot as storms approached the airport. Photo by David Bellantonio NSWRFS

02.01.2022 Here's a sign it's going to be cold this weekend With parts of the state expecting temp's below zero, snow on the alps and summer a distant memory, many of us will be turning on the heater, lighting the fire and pulling out the blankets. So keep flammables a 'metre from the heater' and most importantly test that smoke alarm.

02.01.2022 Mother Nature can be so kind and very cruel. After recent rains, farmers across NSW have been looking to harvest the best crop in years. Unfortunately this afternoon a number of fires started as a result of lightning - just as farmers prepare to harvest. A single hectare can be worth at least $1000 to a farmer. Fires this afternoon burnt as much as 500ha in just a couple of hours. Were it not for the rapid response of farmers, firies and water bombers the losses could have been far worse. Photo: Fire burning in stubble towards an unharvested field near Collie this afternoon.

02.01.2022 On this day last year, NSW experienced some of its worst fire danger ever recorded at the time with Catastrophic fire danger forecast across the Sydney, Greater Hunter and Illawarra/Shoalhaven areas, leading to widespread school closures. Fire danger ratings are an important tool to help you make decisions about what to do and under these conditions, your only safe option is to leave early. You can learn more about the fire danger ratings, and check the rating for your area each day, at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fdr

01.01.2022 Due to deteriorating weather conditions landholders undertaking harvest operations in the Murray, Edward River, Murrumbidgee LGAs are advised to stop and check weather conditions before deciding to continue. Further alerts may be expected over the day. https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//farm-fi/grain-harvesting-guide
