23.01.2022 Sunday evening Mudgee HQ was called to assist Gratti RFS, NSW Ambulance and NSW Police Force with a motor vehicle accident on the Hill End Road. Crews provided traffic control, lighting and fire protection whilst assisting Paramedics to extract a patient from the vehicle and carry them up a steep slippery embankment. Crews were on scene for approximately two hours.

23.01.2022 Meet some of our crew! We have a few crew members who have answered some questions about their time in the NSW RFS. Wondering if you have what it takes to be an RFS member of Mudgee HQ brigade? Why not give us a message so we can arrange a time for you to come to the station to look at our trucks and discuss joining the brigade! We are always more than happy to welcome new members. our first member is Russell Hueffel Why did you join the NSW RFS?... I’ve always had an interest in fire fighting, and after the last season being so bad and our family property being affected I thought it was time to get involved and help out where I can. How long have you been with the rfs ? Just under 12 months What is your role and do you have a specific area you work in? Fire fighter What you do in the NSWRFS what you expect? So far it’s been a wide variety of jobs that I’ve attended, not all of them are what I would have expected, but I’ve found I enjoy the variety.

21.01.2022 Ever wondered how fast a grass fire burns? Temperatures are set to go up into the 40s over the next few weeks, stay alert, act safely, and have a plan. 21.01.2022 Tonight team Mudgee did a bit of practice on close circuit relay pumping. Sending water from a hydrant to a pump then on to another pump and another. This helps when pumping over long distances or up or downhills. Great to see the team sharpening the skills week in and week out. It nice to see dedicated young firefighters, giving it a red hot go

20.01.2022 One of our brigade members, Danny Busch was awarded with a Commissioner's Unit Citation for Service in recognition of his work initiating, designing and implementing the first NSW RFS State Mitigation Indigenous crews. This program provided an innovative employment program for Aboriginal people, particularly in the Far West of NSW. We would also like to congratulate Bogee Captain John Marshall who received an Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) at Government House yesterday. John has served with both fire services in NSW since 1964 and this medal was awarded to him in recognition of his distinguished service. Congratulations to you both! You are both very worthy recipients of these awards

15.01.2022 The third appliance we would like to show you is our Category 1 tanker, which has the call sign of Mudgee 1. This appliance was built in 2018 and came into service in 2018. Since it has been in service, it has done a lot of work from building fires, car accidents, and bushfires. This unit is our general all-rounder unit. It responds to most jobs that we go to. This tanker is also fitted with 2 Breathing Apparatus sets to help deal with dense smoke jobs (structures fires and heavy smoke fires) It carries 3500ltrs of water, 40ltrs of foam, and has a pumping capacity of 1000L per minute. as well as specialist oxy-viva equipment. This unit was used nearly daily during the black summer fires last season. Photos by Photography by Ashlee

15.01.2022 So what about your furry family members? An important part of your bush fire survival plan is what you are going to do with your pets in the event of a bush fir...e. It’s important to consider your pets in your decision of whether you are leaving early or staying and defending. If you are going to remove your pets from the property, then you need to do so early and allow extra time. Just like planning what your family will take, it’s important to plan what you need for your pet. Some good things to have ready for when you leave include: - Food and water (including water and food bowls) for at least 3 - 7 days; - Means of transport/securing your pet (eg a harness for dogs, a carrier for cats, boxes for chickens); - Any medications for your pets; - A comfort item if your pet has one and some toys are always a good idea; - A couple of extra blankets and bedding; - Toileting requirements (i.e. litter trays, bags etc); - A photo of yourself with your pet, incase you lose your pet; and - Collar with ID tags, harness or leash. The bigger your pet, the more important it is to plan in advance as you will require additional times. If you have horses check out this: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//Prepare-your-horse-for-bush-fi to make sure you know how to prepare your horses for bushfire. 08.01.2022 Today we celebrated the life membership of Barry (bear) Stait to Mudgee Headquarters Brigade. Bear has been a member of the RFS for 36 years, with 18 of those years as a part of Mudgee HQ. During this time he has been a Captain for 8 years, 2 years as Senior Deputy Captain, and is currently our Brigade president. Congratulations Bear on receiving life membership.

07.01.2022 The fourth appliance we would like to show you is our Category 9 ultra light tanker, which has a call sign of Mudgee 9. Mudgee 9 was built in 2019 and came into service in mid-December 2019, which was during the height of the black summer fires. Just like Mudgee 1, our Cat 9 was heavily used in the black summer fires in the local area. Mudgee 9 is used for getting to places where our heavier appliances can't get to when fighting fires, and it's also for fire protection for h...eavy plant-like dozers and graders. This is the last of our appliances to show you, and we hope you liked learning a bit more about what we use to keep the community safe. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact our page and one of our team will help you out. Photos byPhotography by Ashlee

03.01.2022 The second appliance we want to show you is our Category 6 Heavy Tanker, which has a call sign of Mudgee 6 The Cat 6 was build in 2015 and came into service in 2016 with the Mudgee brigade. It can be used as firefighting unit or can carry water to other units to keep them in the field. It has a front-mounted monitor that can be operated in the cab of the appliance or has a side monitor that is operated by a crew member in the back of the appliance. This appliance is a very v...aluable appliance, as it carries 9000 liters of water and can be used to directly attack a fire or supply water to other smaller appliances on the fire ground. It has a pumping capacity of 1000L per minute. It does have 4x4 capability but due to it's size, can't always go where the other trucks go. Due to the lack of water supplies available in some rural areas, the Cat 6 is mostly used to supply water to other appliances on the fireground. Due to the large water capacity, the Cat 6 is also used at structure fires as well to eliminate the need for several appliances needing to leave the scene to collect water. The Cat 6 is a much loved vehicle by multiple members within the brigade, and is certainly a great asset to the district. Photos by Photography by Ashlee and SDC Misdon See more
