10.01.2022 NSW Avalanche Summary 10/08/2020 No recent activity Snowpack Summary With lower than forecasted temps for the NSW main range the expected snow fell as rain in ...most places. There was evidence of 40cm of very wet wind slab from Wednesday nights snowfall. This layer has started to bond to the melt freeze layer with resistive planar results on compression tests. Very low visibility was seen today while out doing observations. Sky cover was 8/8. Temperatures were sitting at -1 degC @ 1900m. Pit results showed a HS of 95 cm. Our Primary concern is a layer of depth hoar 6cm on the ground. This layer has been observed to have failed in the past 10 days and with the extra weight of the new wet snow will continue to be a problem on steep slopes. Our secondary concern is the recent 40cm of wet Wind Slab now Wet Slab sitting on the melt freeze crust. We had easy sudden collapse results at 15cm on buried surface hoar. We also had hard resistive planar results on the interface of the old wind slab on the melt freeze crust at 42cm Stay clear of steep terrain at all aspects as rain effected slopes will have Wet Slab issues. Stay safe while the visibility is poor in low altitude tree runs in the backcountry until these concerns are no longer apparent. . . #backcountry #snowsafetyaustralia #avalanche #mammutausnz #xtm_performance #xtm #rhythmboardstore #voileusa . @voilemfg @mammutausnz @rhythmsnowboardshop @snowsafetyaustralia @xtm_performance @ Kosciuszko National Park

09.01.2022 BOM MINOR FLOOD WARNING Snowy River to McKillops Bridge Snowy River to McKillops Bridge: Minor flooding may occur along the Snowy River to McKillops Bridge.... The Snowy River at McKillops Bridge is currently at 1.54 metres and rising. The Snowy River at McKillops Bridge may reach the minor flood level (2.50 m) overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. SES Flood Safety Advice: - Never walk, ride or drive through floodwater, - Never allow children to play in floodwater, - Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains during and after heavy rain, - Keep well clear of fallen power lines - Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks, and heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads. For emergency assistance, contact the SES on 132 500 Further update from the BOM to be released at 11:00am local time.

01.01.2022 An important update for anyone wishing to travel in the Victorian mountains and backcountry: "Police wish to advise the public that as of July 12 emergency services responders and medical providers are not stationed at Mount Hotham or Falls Creek snow resorts while lifts are closed until at least August 19 when current coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions are scheduled to be lifted. Anyone who travels to snow resorts and/or around the back country of these areas are to be awa...re that medical assistance would be attending from Bright, Mount Beauty or Myrtleford if required and would as a result be delayed. People travelling into these areas must take into account the forecasted weather conditions and make an informed decision regarding the risks involved. A trip plan is also critical (this can be left with family/or police), as well as appropriate extreme weather clothing, shelter, food and equipment (including EPIRB, GPS, spare battery packs etc). Be prepared and always make safety your priority." #knowbeforeyougo #AlpineSAR #ASAR #police #SES #searchandrescue #ambulance
