12.01.2022 Today, Port Stephens SES Rescue recruits will undertake their assessment day for Industrial and Domestic Rescue (IDR). Our final training session on Wednesday this week was around machine entrapment, isolation of damaging energies using our lockout kit, use of drills, cutters, dremel, oxy-acetylene, hand tools and the pulling down of electrically and hydrocarbon powered pumps. Today sees the culmination of over 4 weeks of learning incorporating theory and practical sess...ions with an extraordinarily clever and brilliant group of people. Each member will be assessed today by way of theory and practical scenarios. Good luck team! Please don’t forget if you would like to join a diverse group of people and learn new skills perhaps outside your initial comfort zone, then drop in on a Tuesday night (General unit training) or send us a message!

10.01.2022 Bluey, the 4 month old rescue kitten, had only been with in his new home for 3 days, when he escaped through an opened door and was chased by a dog. Scared, poor Bluey ran up a tree to escape the dog, climbing as high up as he possibly could! His owners looked everywhere for Bluey, when they finally heard his calls.. coming from up above.. His owners called out to him and tried to encourage him down with food and toys, but poor Bluey was unable to get himself down from t...he tree. Unsure what to do, his owners called NSW SES to assist with domestic Animal Rescue. Using a very tall ladder, a harness and a pole strap, our wonderful SES volunteers were able to help Bluey down from the tree, and return to his new owners Well done team!
