23.01.2022 *UPDATE* IDN21033 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST... Severe Thunderstorm Warning for LARGE HAILSTONES, DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL For people in Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Northern Tablelands and parts of North West Slopes and Plains Forecast Districts. Issued at 2:48 pm Thursday, 29 October 2020. LARGE HAIL POSSIBLE IN NORTHEAST Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, Armidale, Tenterfield, Yamba, Maclean, Woolgoolga, Sawtell and Dorrigo. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 5:50 pm. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. 18.01.2022 Had a request for assistance come through yesterday about a missing person while delivering a chainsaw course at Laurieton. I asked those present were they available to assist and 12 of the 16 present said yes. The unit commanders from FPP, TAR, WGM and CHV sourced members from their units and made their way to the forward control position. On arrival there were about 30 RFS members from local brigades present. The outcome was a good one.... I just want to praise all the members present, total 30+ SES, and the RFS members who gave up their learning/ free time to work in miserable and arduous conditions. I want to acknowledge the management of each unit for their speed and efficiency in developing responders in a short time. To you all I am greatful for your support. Later yesterday we had another RFA for a person on the side of Mayall Lakes with a suspected heart attack. Access by hello could not be performed. FPP and WGM members cooperated to fulfill the task request. Job well done. Photos below by Dave Manwell from FPP Unit. See more

In the wake of major flooding in March that inundated properties, closed and damaged infrastructure, disrupted essential services and isolated communities across the Mid North Coast, the NSW SES will be hosting a series of community flood forums in 12 locations over the next 3 months. The flood forums aim to gather community feedback on the record rain and flood event and to identify opportunities for the NSW SES to partner with residents and businesses to improve local flood preparation, response and transition to recovery arrangements. The first of the forums will be for residents and businesses on Port Macquarie’s Northside on Tuesday 11th May at the NSW Rural Fire Service North Shore Station on Shoreline Drive starting at 7:00pm. Other locations for NSW SES post-event flood forums include Manning Point, Camden Haven, Lower Macleay, Wauchope, Macksville, Settlement Point and Port Macquarie CBD, Wingham, Taree, Kempsey CBD, Stuarts Point and Kendall. From the 12th March to the 27th March NSW SES volunteers across the Mid North Coast responded to 3182 calls for emergency flood and storm assistance including conducting 660 flood rescues, 178 flood isolation resupply jobs and 60 emergency medical transportations as parts of the Hastings and Manning catchments saw 1 in 100-year flood levels. NSW SES Zone Commander Chief Superintendent Stephen Patterson said, The forums will focus on learning the lessons from this major event so that we can better prepare for, respond to and cope with future flood events. Chief Superintendent Patterson continued by saying, The forums will be facilitated by an independent facilitator. After the forum participants will receive a written report summarising community feedback. The forum report will then provide a starting point to discuss the types of activities and programs that are needed to consolidate and increase community resilience. Those seeking more information on the forums can call the NSW SES Community Capability Officer, Steve Lawrence on 0404 828 494. For emergency flood and storm assistance call NSW SES on 132 500. 02.01.2022 Do you have a plan

01.01.2022 We have four pallets of sandbags covered with tarps outside our shed roller door for any people wanting to self help overnight. Please be courteous to others and make sure you put the tarp back on the sandbags so the remaining sandbags stay dry. We have had a massive afternoon/evening and night with many calls for assistance for leaking roofs, overflowing gutters and water inundation into homes, garages and sheds. There are still a few jobs outstanding but we are trying to finish them off before calling it a night. Thank you to all the wonderful spontaneous volunteers that helped fill sandbags. A big thank you to the Tinonee RFS crew for their amazing support. A massive thank you to the Taree City SES volunteers that gave up so much of their time to help their community.
