Source: Bureau of Meteorology For people in parts of Mid North Coast, North West Slopes and Plains and Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts. Issued at 1:33 pm Monday, 21 January 2019. SLOW-MOVING THUNDERSTORMS IN NSW Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Armidale, Glen Innes, Inverell, Emmaville, Tingha and Bundarra. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid on 131 388, or Endeavour Energy on 131 003 or Essential Energy on 132 080, as shown on your power bill. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.



20.01.2022 Update: yesterday's storms have so far created over 1,800 requests for assistance statewide. While they have brought much needed rain, the storms and wind have... created a fair bit damage too. Our area has received over 200 calls for assistance with the majority being in Tamworth and Narrabri. Local crews have been working through the night and additional crews from surrounding areas have been deployed this morning to support the recovery operation. Severe Thunderstorm Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL For people in parts of Mid North Coast, North West Slopes and Plains and Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Armidale, Glen Innes, Inverell, Bundarra, Ashford and Bendemeer. Severe thunderstorm...s are no longer occurring in the Hunter district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED. Smallwoods Crossing (Nattai River, southwest of Camden) received 57mm of rainfall from a thunderstorm in 60 minutes from 3:45pm to 4:45pm. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. 14.01.2022 This weekend SES members from Uralla, Tamworth and Armidale brushed up their 4WD and recovery techniques with trainers and assessors from Gunnedah and Narrabri. A great weekend was had by all and there is now a greater capability to help the community in these areas.

12.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has now cancelled the flood watch for the Gwydir and Macintyre rivers with no significant rainfall recorded overnight. Thunderstorms ...are still expected across northeast NSW today and tomorrow with the potential for these to become severe in the afternoons bringing burst of heavy rain, damaging winds and large hail. Weather Situation: Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in the Northern Tablelands and parts of the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Central Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains and Central West Slopes and Plains districts. Locations which may be affected include Scone, Armidale, Tenterfield, Glen Innes, Inverell, Tamworth, Gunnedah, Narrabri, Coonabarabran, Tabulam, Dorrigo and Tambar Springs. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds over the next several hours in parts of the South West Slopes, Riverina and Snowy Mountains districts.
