24.01.2022 BoM has just released a severe thunderstorm warning for our area. http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN21033.shtml We advise that people should: * Move your car... under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid on 131 388, or Endeavour Energy on 131 003 or Essential Energy on 132 080, as shown on your power bill. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES 132 500. 13.01.2022 Storm Operations in Tamworth are continuing today with 70% of jobs completed. We have numerous teams in the field today including Tamworth , Gunnedah & Armidal...e SES, Tamworth & Moore Creek RFS and Fire & Rescue NSW Strike Team composed of Tamworth, Armidale, Inverell, Gunnedah, Glen Innes crews. If you have damage caused by the previous storms, please call 132 500 as soon as possible so we can attend your property. The call centre operators are standing by.

09.01.2022 Recently NSW SES Deputy Commissioner Greg Newton visited The Walcha Unit to see the great work the Walcha volunteers undertake in the community. Discussions included the need to recruit new members to the Walcha SES and the new and different ways to volunteer with the Service. #Walcha



07.01.2022 Update: yesterday's storms have so far created over 1,800 requests for assistance statewide. While they have brought much needed rain, the storms and wind have... created a fair bit damage too. Our area has received over 200 calls for assistance with the majority being in Tamworth and Narrabri. Local crews have been working through the night and additional crews from surrounding areas have been deployed this morning to support the recovery operation. We are still taking calls to assist with property damage from these storms on 132 500. If you do not get through immediately, please keep trying. For life threatening emergencies, call 000

03.01.2022 4 Walcha members attended an Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) training weekend were they learnt different methods of conducted search and rescue operations in an urban environment. NSW SES volunteers support FRNSW the combat agency for USAR by providing trained operators as first responders in local communities and during large scale incidents.
