24.01.2022 Do you wake up 100% ready to go go go? And during your day do you feel that you have the resources to manage your day or are you often anxious, stressed, overwhelmed, fatigued, tense and even moody? Perhaps your have trouble concentrating on your task at hand? Do you then go home and continue to go go go before finally hoping into bed after running your battery to -11% capacity and then lay there tossing and turning because your mind won’t stop racing? If you experience any... of this then you’re not alone. You are with the majority in todays world it seems suffering from the effects of SD (sympathetic dominance). Your sympathetic nervous system won’t slow down and this stops the important work the parasympathetic system (rest, digest, recharge and repair). Your now wondering well that’s silly why on earth would my brain do that!? Or Why does this happen to me? Keep an eye out for our Facebook posts as we look at WHY aka the cause...

22.01.2022 Who would love this roaring set-up?

21.01.2022 We challenge you to be selective and use your social media to bring you more smiles, positive vibes and acknowledge those every day heroes around you doing little acts of kindness and stepping up for our community. To win a super stylish emergency roll of who gives a crap toilet paper delivered to your door (anywhere in the Darwin or Palmerston area) tell us a story below of something heart warming that has happened or someone who has shared their special brand of kindness with you this week. 20.01.2022 During these challenging times, it is imperative to keep our physical distance with others. However this doesn't mean we have to socially or emotionally distance or isolate ourselves! In fact, social isolation has been found to impact immunity, mental health, sleep and cognition. So in a time of uncertainty, it is even more important to maintain social connection with our loved ones, despite the physical distance. We need each other!... How can we stay connected while physically distancing? Reach out to someone you may not have spoken to for a while. A simple "I am thinking of you" or "How are you?" text can mean a lot. You never know, you may be just what they need during this time or vice versa. Theres some fantastic free social interaction platforms out there (Facebook, houseparty, Zoom, Skype). Organise a virtual get-together with a group of school friends, old work colleagues or your extended family. You may be surprised that you are actually able to get all your friends together at the same time for the first time ever! Mix it up by making the get-together themed, or create a quiz or games night. Other ideas are to read your grandchild a bed time story, or finally teach your son how to make your famous lasagne. When out to buy groceries or from your balcony, extend a smile or wave to someone from afar. That may just be the thing that makes their day. Send a care package or written card or letter to a friend or family member or put it in the letterbox of a neighbour you know that lives alone. AND don't forget, its ok to not be ok. You are handling this difficult situation as best as you can. It is OK to not always be productive, its OK to feel uneasy, its OK to have times of negativity, it is OK to cry. We are all in this together and it is absolutely A OK to reach out to others and talk things through. What have you been doing to stay social and connected during this time of physically distancing? 18.01.2022 Modern life as we are sure you would agree is more demanding then ever before. We are pushing harder then ever to achieve, get more done, live a ‘better’ life. People are working more and sleeping less than ever before. When not working we are often trying to fit in a million and one extra activities taking the kids here, there, cleaning up at home.. the list goes on and on. Who ever gets through their To-do list each day!? Combine this with living in a technologically con...stantly ‘connected’ world where we can’t escape screen time and responsibility it seems ever and often eating for on the run for convenience rather then nourishment. So the total stress load on our nervous system is HUGE! Whenever we are under chronic physical (often repetitive trauma such as poor posture, sitting all day at work etc), chemical (diet, exposure to pollutants) and emotional (pressure, expectation, un-fulfilled living) a stress response is created and this occurs via stimulation of our sympathetic nervous system. Whenever the body perceives a threat it fires the sympathetic nervous system and doing any of these does just that. For many of us this is life on a daily basis Hello SD!!

18.01.2022 Introducing another fab exercise to support good posture... The wall angel 1. Stand with your back flat against a wall 2. Stand around 1 foot off the wall with a slight bend in your knees. ... 3. Keep your lower back flat against the wall avoid arching. 4. Rest the back of your head against the wall, retract your chin and keep your gaze forward. 5. Raise your arms to your side, with your elbows at a 90-degree angle and hands up. Your elbows and the back of your hands should be against the wall. 6. Breathe in and slide your hands and elbows up the wall until you feel some tension, breath out and lower your arms back to 90 degrees. 7. Repeat this motion 5-10 times. As always let us know if you have any questions . **To watch the video, make sure to join our group . https://www.facebook.com/groups/532103627704109/?fref=nf&__xts__[0]=68.ARCPWX5D1kORI3BWjWJtLthQk5S4Edh0w7-7Fclo4xLz9byJvy0CjakB3Y4b1zdbdvjWXYtJi71iaC10UgZ94H0c1qW2WkHXlDLZx4igc4z9Ycp_EKxZHayAlgJuJcsuHAg13DJSVZGH_K5AvT-HaVNAuJuk8R2nb2d85tXgXwGGY5GTSYZBbr20BLTigwOQSJuaqnXG9lxfqTQiAk2B52GzKBXKUCGgGXujlVlY7PXC0DTYdv-HO3VwEPAl7xuOq5wnmsp2HNcaP0ygSUhvTds_iIibJZaAyKqWhRzqO4PXX3zFHOu1DqAZLcFSF6eOWTBDrsFkhxgO2sYbnsZIB1K807dwIKOv7K6HUGYhVpCvhRPRbjwMpw&__tn__=kC-R

18.01.2022 The dead bug is a fantastic exercise to build core strength and stability. 1. Start on your back, allowing your shoulders and low back to fall heavy to the floor. 2. Raise your arms up so your elbows are above your shoulders and palms facing in. Lift your legs with your knees bent and knees above hips. 3. Depending on which progression you choose, lower the limb to the count of 3 and return to the starting position to the count of 3. Exhale as you lower the limb and inhal...e as you return to starting position. 4. Repeat on both sides. 5. Complete 1-3 sets of 5-10 repetitions on each side. Note: Keep your hips and low back as still as possible throughout the exercise. Perform the movement slowly and with control. Engage your core muscles and press your lower back into the floor.

16.01.2022 Another fantastic exercise to do following extended periods of sitting. Sitting all day can create pelvic and muscle imbalances. Due to lack of core activation while sitting, this can lead to our low back muscles taking over and doing more work than necessary. The pelvic tilt exercise activates the core musculature to take the load off the low back. It also assists with optimal pelvic positioning, and sends the appropriate feedback to the brain on pelvic position and function. Initially, when pressing your back and drawing your belly button into the mat, hold the position with your abs braced. Once you are able to establish the pelvic tilt position with core contraction, progress by making it a dynamic tilting exercise.

15.01.2022 Mobility challenge Balance a cup (or toilet paper ) on your head, squat down to the floor, then get back up again, all without using your hands. A great one for balance, mobility and posture. ... Extra points for filming and sending it to us!!!

14.01.2022 Our autonomic nervous system - the automatic system that controls every cell, organ, tissue and joint in our body, is divided into two parts: SYMPATHETIC and parasympathetic. The sympathetic nervous is commonly referred to as the fight/flight system. While the parasympathetic system is responsible for rest, digestion and tissue repair and reproduction. When our body is working well we share a balance of sympathetic (go go go) and parasympathetic (wind down, rest, repair and recharge). One way to look at it is similar to your mobile phone. During the day you’re using your phone so it’s go go go, then at night you stop using it, plug it in to charge so that it’s 100% ready for the go go go of tomorrow.

13.01.2022 Vitamin D Vitamins cannot be produced by the cells in your body and therefore must be obtained through diet or supplementation. However Vitamin D breaks this rule as it can be produced by the cells in your body in a process that involves the conversion of cholesterol derivatives into vitamin D using sunlight.... In order to get the daily requirement of Vitamin D from sunlight you would need to have direct sun exposure for a minimum of 10-15 minutes per day. However, despite the warm weather down under, it has been found that approximately 1 in 4 Aussies are Vitamin D deficient! So why is Vitamin D so important? It supports calcium absorption and retention to promote optimal bone health. Assists in the regulation of cell growth. Plays a role in immune function. Regulates inflammation by reducing cytokines. Vitamin D deficiency can cause: Fatigue Joint and muscle pain Reduced bone density Depression Impaired wound healing Poor immune system Hair loss Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin so it is typically found in a "carrier oil" when it is in liquid form. We love and stock the Innate Choice vitamin D3 drops as they use organic olive oil as the carrier oil. Send us a message if you have any questions

10.01.2022 Are you working from home? Suddenly this may place you in a position where you are working in the same space as family and bent over a laptop. This scenario when done consistently can come with both physical and mental strain. So here are a few tips to optimise your ergonomics and comfort while working from home:... Ensure computer monitor/laptop screen is adjusted so your eyes are level with the top 1/3 of the screen. Keep screen at arm's distance away. Keep elbows close to your body and at right angles. If using a laptop, ideally use a separate keyboard and mouse. Ideally you want to sit on a chair with lumbar support to prevent fatigue. Alternatively add a lumbar cushion support to the small of your back. Make sure lighting isn't too harsh or dim and without glare as this can cause eye strain. Working from home can also impact our mental health with lack of motivation, isolation etc. These tips can make this transition and change of scenery that bit more manageable: Build your work schedule around your peak productivity periods. Keep to a routine, such as getting dressed for the day. Stick to specific work hours. Take regular posture breaks every 15-20 minutes. Take longer breaks to grab water or get some sunshine every hour. Avoid working in rooms that you associate with relaxation, such as in your bedroom or on your bed. Make sure you set aside time to fit in some form of physical activity. Set the room temperature to 22-25 degrees which can increase productivity. P.s. Who can see which tip I didn't follow correctly in the video which in the long term would lead to neck pain?

09.01.2022 Breathing exercises are a fantastic way to promote calmness, reduce heart rate, improve concentration, mood, core stability, and minimise anxiousness not only for us adults but also for our kiddies. To note: Ensure expiration is controlled and not forced. Make sure inspiration is isolated to the diaphragm without exaggerated chest. movement (it's a good idea to start with the toy on abdomen exercise first for this reason).... Complete no more than 2-3 inspiration/expirations at a time to start off with. Let us know how your little ones go with these exercises! 08.01.2022 WE LOVE MAGNESIUM Did you know magnesium is involved in over 300 chemical reactions in the body AND around 50% of the population are deficient in magnesium. WHY?... 1. It is hard to get the required amount through our diet (soil mineral depletion). 2. Many of our daily stressors burn through magnesium. Magnesium is such an important mineral and is involved in: Helping your cells with energy production. Muscle relaxation support for muscle cramps and spasms. Promoting normal blood pressure. Maintaining optimal blood sugar levels. Regulating calcium metabolism for bone strength. Release of serotonin (the happy chemical ), therefore regulating mood and managing stress. Promotes restorative sleep. There are different forms of magnesium so it is important you speak to your health professional to ensure you are taking the best form for you and your body. Our absolute favourite form is magnesium glycinate, which we stock Fibroplex from Metagenics. As always let us know if you have any questions See more

06.01.2022 In todays video we are going over three great exercises to isolate and contract your glutes. This is highly important especially now as it is not as easy to move around and exercise as much as we used to, which comes with a increase in sitting. When we sit for prolonged periods Prolonged sitting puts pressure on our gluteal muscles, and also keeps them in a lengthened position. This allows the hip flexors to get tight, and the glutes to be inhibited- less likely to fire pro...perly and work efficiently. Ongoing weakness and hip flexor tightness, if not corrected, can lead to pain and suboptimal movement patterns. Fire hydrant Start on your hands and knees, with your shoulders above your hands and hips above knees. Ensure your back is straight and keep your core contracted and tight. Keep your knees at 90 degree angles and raise one leg away from your body at a 45 degree angle. Lower your leg to the starting position and repeat 2 sets of 10 reps. Repeat with the other leg, Donkey kicks Add donkey kicks by extending your leg behind you after raising it to the side. Make sure you dont rotate your pelvis or arch your low back with the hip extension. Clam While lying on your side, keep your legs stacked and bend your hips and knees. Raise the top knee toward to the ceiling, whilst keeping your feet together. Squeeze your glutes at the top, then slowly lower your knee to meet the other. Complete 2 sets of 10 reps and then repeat on the opposite side. Progression: add a theraband around your thighs for increased resistance. Glute bridge Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor and arms extended next to you. Raise your hips off the ground until your shoulders, hips and knees form a straight line. Hold for a couple of seconds while squeezing your glutes together and keeping your core tight without arching your low back. Lower hips down to the ground slowly. Repeat 2 sets of 10 reps. Progression: add leg extension and/or add theraband around thighs.
