25.01.2022 Len and Melville at work smashing the last of the onion weed. It has taken many years of hard work, but the onion weed is on the retreat. We found maybe a dozen mature plants compared to tens of thousands a few years ago. There is still a big seed bank in the soil and a particularly big germination this year helps us knock it off. These two old blokes are real heros.

24.01.2022 Thanks to Alex and Scott from Landscapes SA for the demo of smoking and fumigating rabbit warrens. It is so effective. Sorry bunnies, but you do so much damage to precious regenerating native species. Meanwhile Len and Melville fixed up the verandah on the cottage. Bob did bird surveys and brought his contagious cheeriness with him. Thanks everyone! A great day at Lenger yet again.

23.01.2022 20 Landholders involved with the Western Pygmy Possum project are going to receive 10 nectar plants each, thanks to a Small Volunteer grant from Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board, Cambrai Community Nursery and Kersbrook Landcare Nursery.

21.01.2022 The Callitris pines are going gangbusters! Good thing we put the precautionary big guards on most of them. We thought it most be overkill But the two trees with the regular small tree guards were eaten off! Melville is unstoppable here and planting more trees in the hard ground. You wouldn’t know he was in hospital under general anaesthetic yesterday!

20.01.2022 The little Callitris pines have grown so well they are being upgraded to big guards already!

18.01.2022 This sleepy lizard didn’t seem to mind the blistering heat on Friday and was very happy to gulp down quite a few pieces of orange.

13.01.2022 Another perfect day for a working bee at Lenger Reserve.

11.01.2022 For out working bee on Friday we watered the small pines we planted this year. It was hot as hell but they needed a drink and so did we so we celebrated the year’s work with a cold brew. Thanks to Len, Bob, Melville, Britt and Chris. We’ve achieved a lot this year.

05.01.2022 Planting day at Wildwood Park Sanctuary, perfect weather, great volunteers, 120 nectar and foliage plants to help support wildlife. Project supported by Murray...lands and Riverland Landscape Board, plants from Cambrai Community Nursery and Kersbrook Landcare Nursery. Sally M. E. Arnold and David looked after us and provided a tour of their santuary where we got to meet some of the fauna we were planting for. See more

05.01.2022 We were lucky enough to spot these fascinating little creatures on the recent working bee at Lenger!

03.01.2022 A great working bee with Adam and Russ Wed last week. Adam has kindly donated the proceeds from his open garden to the Engelbrook Reserve fund to add some info...rmation boards and install seats. Russ has been volunteering here for well over 30 years. New volunteers are always welcome. Why not give it a try this coming Saturday the 1st of May at 1pm? We are pushing back a front of Erica and it is making a huge difference, so come and join us!
