04.01.2022 Culture Shock and Family Relationships among African Migrants Culture shock and integration are some primary challenges of most African migrants in Australia. As parents are struggling with migration consequences including cultural identity, cultural alienation, cultural trauma, and cultural bereavement in their effort to fit into the Australian culture, their children are fast redefining and acquiring Australian behaviours, ... values, self-identities and life-styles that are in conflict with those of their parents and countries of origin. While these processes are normal with migration, the emergent issues at the on-going Mentor Me ReConnect Sessions have brought to the fore the need to create a platform for both parents/carers/guardians and young people to openly interact and find a common ground. It is anticipated that the Open Forum will bring out concerns, sentiments, and outcomes that cannot be realised at family levels to help shape the Community Module of the Mentor Me ReConnect Programme. OACWA respectfully invite you to be part of this all-important session to help shape the assimilation and integration processes of our African Australians especially the youth. See more
