25.01.2022 Last week I conducted the service for the gorgeous young man Aaron. It was incredibly moving, sad and uplifting all at the same time. Here is a message from Aarons mum Christy, an amazing woman going through an expected huge range of emotions. I feel humbled to share her message and believe it may help others. Love to you Christy

25.01.2022 What a truly beautiful vase arrangement for Pete who was an avid Swans supporter! I hope they bring a little cheer to his family today

23.01.2022 All set up at the Dying to Know day in Tecoma. Helping spread the word to encourage people to consider the vast choices available with funeral care... that unfortunately many people dont consider

22.01.2022 So many emotions at our police honors funeral today. We laughed and we cried as we paid our respects to a great man. But the emotion that stood out was all the LOVE shown for Glenn & his family and our community as a whole RIP S/C Paton...

22.01.2022 It was an amazing send off yesterday for our friend Peter! So much love...all the cars...his car/flamingo coffin and around 300 people! And I was so incredibly honored to lead his service. RIP lovely man

21.01.2022 Its a busy week for us as we prepare for 3 very different farewells for 3 special families. Along with helping another family with keeping their loved Mum at home when she passes (as per her wishes), hopefully avoiding any care in our mortuary. She will be looked after at home - by us & her family No matter the kind of funeral experience, we are here to help in the best possible way

21.01.2022 Our memorial service today for Betty, led by Celebrant Annette was truly beautiful. Overlooking the sea and ships she so loved. I must go down to the seas again To the lonely sea and the sky, and all I ask is a tall ship And a star to steer her by... RIP Betty

20.01.2022 Just loving our new wind chimes featuring words from one of my all time favorite poems by E.E Cummings.. Made with expertise (and if requested with names, dates, different words etc) by Richard from Mountain Song Wind Chimes.. The sound is amazing and is a beautiful reminder of a loved one

19.01.2022 Today we were at beautiful Inglewood Estate as we said goodbye to the charismatic and fabulous Luigi! We are thankful to have wonderful venues like Inglewood and many others in which we can still support our client families. But nothing takes away their sadness at this challenging time in Melbourne. Its really tough - and really sad out there. RIP Lou. Wherever you are now I hope it includes a drop of red and a deck of cards!

19.01.2022 Today were at Elwood Sailing Club as we celebrate Nats life appreciating views of the bay. Its so wonderful that more and more people are realising that funerals can be held in truly beautiful places! And Nat loved the beach

18.01.2022 Yesterday we farewelled a 97yr old wonderful lady who LOVED her garden! So much so that her family adorned her coffin with an image of her very own paradise. Lots of love and gratitude was felt in the chapel for Mrs A...

18.01.2022 En route to Rye today to quietly lay 100 year old Betty to rest, with just a few family members and some special music. So much respect for this lovely lady and her family...

18.01.2022 This is beautiful, and oh so moving. The power of words! So here we are. And I can vaguely and strangely trace your outline. I can remember what it felt like to hold you.... I can remember what it was like to stare blindly into your eyes for what felt like an eternity. How can I forget that. I can never forget that. I can never forget you.. (Forest Blakk) See more

17.01.2022 Imagine being a pioneer of television and bringing the world into peoples living rooms! What an exciting and amazing time. Such was the life that Ron lived! It was uplifting to hear and present his life story, and humbling to receive a message from his family just hours after his service.. Thankyou so much for both you and Davids support and advice. You delivered what you promised. A beautiful and heartfelt ceremony. So glad we had you to guide us in this very hard time. We are blessed funeral directors indeed

17.01.2022 Fantastic!! Or we can deliver a low cost coffin to a chosen location for individuals or families to paint/draw/decorate. Weve done this on a few occasions & encourage families to think outside the square! (Should they so desire) Beautifully personalised coffins at a most affordable price...

17.01.2022 The Dandenong ranges was a special place to be this morning as we farewelled Glenn in one of his favorite places. The area he was married, and where he enjoyed happy family times with his girls. We will never forget this moment, standing at the Oakdale hearse in the mist and truly magnificent forest, as we said goodbye

17.01.2022 We love Herman, the namesake of our new hearse. And what a wonderful message! In our role as Funeral Directors we often see so much bitterness and anger towards others. Be kind to ourselves and others (at least as best we can) is one of my personal mottos

16.01.2022 Heart wrenching and thought provoking. What do you think...

16.01.2022 Im proud to say that I think this is why our business is flourishing. Its easy to throw around words like we care, but you see we truly truly DO - and it shows

15.01.2022 This morning our mind keeps turning to a dear old lady who will be gently brought into our care in the near future. This lady has just turned 100!! Oh to imagine the times she has lived through We will be so honored to care for her with love

15.01.2022 Last night Four Corners featured an episode about the funeral industry. As much as we didn't learn anything new, we sat riveted and were horrified, angry and sad. Time and again we wish that our community would take more time to understand their rights and choices, and do their homework. Oh, and unfortunately in our industry like any other, you sometimes get what you pay for. Having said that you do NOT necessarily receive a better service by engaging a large corporate pr...ovider. In fact it's OFTEN the exact opposite. Perhaps it's important for some people to pay thousands of dollars extra for staff to be standing around in red hats, but we can't for the life of us understand why? But that's just us, and of course we are all entitled to our opinion. High Oakdale values and morals are what we are all about, as is the case with many other smaller funeral providers. It's just like any other service, people need to do their homework and realise they CAN take their time and not be forced into making hurried decisions. Our focus is attention to detail, TRUST, beautiful funeral services and RESPECT - to our client families, each other, our suppliers, staff we engage and of course to the cherished deceased people who come into our care. Our hearts go out to families who have been so affected by bad funeral experiences. Thankyou. Anne & David x

12.01.2022 Thankyou Mike ... Our adult son died suddenly and we were thrust into the unknown territory of preparing and conducting his funeral. A friend recommended David and Anne at Oakdale Funerals and they not only provided a beautiful and empathetic funeral but made several suggestions that greatly improved the ceremony we decided upon. I cannot recommend them highly enough. We were treated with respect, sympathy and empathy and they helped a great deal in the most difficult time that my wife and I have ever experienced

11.01.2022 Truly humbled to help families and its ever so lovely to receive notes in the mail like this! Thankyou so much for what you did. I could not have been in better hands. Once again, thankyou... Paul, we were honored to help your family give your darling lifelong love Meg the beautiful send off she deserved

10.01.2022 Yesterday we farewelled Leon, a passionate Lions supporter - with some beautiful themed flowers and not forgetting of course his beloved lions gorilla! Leon was the most dedicated and treasured father and will be sadly missed. We said goodbye in true Leon style...with lots of laughs and love

10.01.2022 Sometimes I struggle with the grief of our work. Today was one of those days as we & our colleagues do our best as funeral directors, celebrants & others to support families that are desperate to give their loved ones a farewell surrounded by family and friends. A farewell they cannot have at this time. But beautiful ceremonies filled with love are still taking place - with messages from family & friends. Live-streaming, sometimes with hundreds watching in! Heartfelt recorded tributes. Drive bys in our Oakdale hearse. Painted & personally decorated coffins, especially by the children in the family. Flowers. Quiet stillness and love absolutely filling our spaces. And on we go...

09.01.2022 In beautiful Eltham today, surrounded by trees and flowers... as we say farewell to Lyn

09.01.2022 We always encourage families to have one (or lots!) of special items at their loved ones farewell. Today it was this treasured pink lion singing You are so Beautiful...perfectly demonstrating Annas quirkiness and sense of fun. What a beautiful woman, with her devotion to her family and amazing world adventures. We were privileged to hear about her life and support her family

09.01.2022 Were making the most of isolation in our garden during beautiful Autumn. This time of year reminds us of why we chose our business name Oakdale. Being huge lovers of trees and nature, the strength of the mighty oak and the softness of a quiet dale really reasonated with us. Strength and gentle guidance...two much needed qualities we provide our client families during some of their darkest days. Two qualities that help make their funeral experience the best it can possibly be. At times we have questioned our business name, but now more than ever we realise its just perfect..

09.01.2022 Quite often our client families find some meaningful and special words to use on printed material or in the ceremony. Like these... Its impossible said pride Its risky said experience Its pointless said reason ... Give it a try whispered the heart (Oh how lovely )

07.01.2022 Barbaras Great Grandchildren may not have been present in the chapel, but the cute little monkeys had a special time at home painting Super Nans coffin in all her favorite colors! Topped with amazing home made flowers by a talented Granddaughter...Barbaras ceremony was filled with love and was a beautiful farewell for a treasured and much loved woman

06.01.2022 Today we say goodbye to Barbara Ann in the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens. Its important to us to really get to know our client family & this morning has seen me bopping to The Beach Boys song Barbara Ann as I prepare to encourage others to do the same! To suddenly lose your beautiful wife & mother a few days before Christmas is horrific beyond words.. I hope the love of friends & family, being immersed in a garden that Barbara so loved - along with a few glasses of bubbles will help ease the pain just a little. RIP lovely lady

05.01.2022 Yes indeed, we can so relate to this! We are really missing people, as are so many others. And our hearts go out to our client families..

05.01.2022 How wonderful it was helping to tell the story of 100 yr old Thelmas life! She was an absolute trail blazer who lived her life with intelligence and wisdom, teaching many grateful students. And Thelma loved and owned VW beetles, so of course my Betty was driven along in her honor So special as we spoke of her through tears & laughter.. (Ps..Thelma was known to be a bit of a lead foot. The upside down VW beetle model on the memory table says it all! )

04.01.2022 Thankyou for your kind words Richard. We were truly honored to look after your special family member. Weve been thinking of you all Anne

04.01.2022 Such a united team effort between us & our client family to create a beautiful send off for John today in our glorious Yarra Valley Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my Grandfather said. A child, or a book, or a painting, or a house, or a wall built, or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, youre there... (Ray Bradbury)

03.01.2022 So much love today for Judi at beautiful Potters in Warrandyte. Sometimes its hard to put special farewells into words! RIP Judi...You were the most sassy, strong and treasured Wife and Mum

02.01.2022 Rudis great love was his Wife & Son. His next great love was Bonsai, and what incredible talent and knowledge he had - resulting in beauties like these! He was a true master of this art and helped people all throughout Australia. So honored to conduct his service today. He will be sadly missed
