25.01.2022 Our Year 10 Play Chariots of Fire starts tonight and continues for the next four nights. Our dedicated staff and students have bought this amazing true story to life of two men, Harold Abrahams and Eric Liddell, who race for gold in the 1924 Olympics in Paris - one runs for his faith, the other participates to leave prejudice behind. Unfortunately, due to Covid, we have had to restrict audience numbers. We extended the Play over four nights, and in true Oakhill style, the ...production was an immediate sell-out. Break a leg. #moretooakhill #oakhillcollegecommunity #oakhillcollegeclassof2022 #lasalleanzppng

25.01.2022 Today we celebrated the academic achievements of our Year 11 students at a cohort Assembly. We also congratulate our Dux - Olivia Humm, 2nd place - Marco Fogolin and 3rd place - Adam Byrnes on their outstanding results. Additionally we presented the Macquarie University Leaders Award to Olivia Humm and Jye McLachlan. Each year, two students are nominated from their cohort as having demonstrated leadership across various domains such as academics, demonstrating initiative and... commitment, and leadership qualities contributing to a positive change in their community. We also heard from our incoming College Captain's Adam and Elia who addressed the cohort. Elia reflected on today's Gospel reading, a recount of Jesus washing his disciple's feet. Elia drew parallels to Jesus' actions and the significance of that day to our actions each day, as we continue to live a life of service, humbly as did John Baptist De La Salle. Adam spoke about the challenges that the cohort has faced this year, and even though things haven't gone to plan, we are still fortunate. He asked the cohort to continue focusing on being brothers and sisters to each other and advised there will be many upcoming opportunities to help communities who are less fortunate than us. #moretooakhill #oakhillcollegeclassof2021 #oakhillcollegecommunity #lasalleanzppng

24.01.2022 Consistent Effort and Application Awards were recently presented to our Year 9 cohort. These young men must be commended on their diligence and hard work this year in what has been a testing time. Congratulations boys.

23.01.2022 Australia is a vast country with many nations, tribes and language groups. Message sticks play an important role in communication across these diverse lands and tribes supporting the oral communication of the messenger. Our own Karen Isaacs is assisting in advising on the development of a pre-school as part of a future primary school in the Blacktown area, and part of this process is asking people and communities their thoughts for our First Nations children of the area. The... organisers of the new school first contacted community Elder Uncle Wes Marne, a Bigambul man. When asked about the idea, Uncle Wes was also given a message stick to aid in the telling of the story and listening to the community. This message stick is travelling around our region, and shows the symbols of feet, to travel on country. This story now becomes a continuation of our muru or pathway as we walk on country to explore with community the right type of education for young indigenous children of Blacktown so they may continue the culture of our Spiritual Ancestors. As we pass this message stick around may it warm our hearts and hands to yarn with each other so that the learning and the stories and the spirit of our indigenous ancestors from this place can continue for another 60,000 years.

23.01.2022 This week we have recognised our Year 8 students by presenting them with their Consistent Effort and Application Awards. These boys have worked hard to achieve these awards in challenging times. Keep up the good work. #oakhillcollegecommunity #moretooakhill #OakhillCollegeClassOf2024

21.01.2022 Oakhill College was awash with jersey's today in support of Jersey Day. For a cause that is close to our heart - we are wearing our favourite sporting jersey to promote awareness of The Organ and Tissue Authority and the DONATE LIFE Network, and starting the conversation about organ donation. Organ donation is quick and easy and that decision could save someones life. #jerseyday #donatelife #moretooakhill #oakhillcollegecommunityspprtimh

21.01.2022 Last week our Year 9 students went to Camp Somerset at Colo River. The boys were challenged in a number of ways and some were taken out of their comfort zones to enjoy new experiences such as camping, canoeing, hiking, high ropes, archery, cooking and even pitching their own tent. This Camp was a great opportunity for the cohort to come together, enjoy their time away and work through a number of team building activities over the four days, as they continue to transition into young men. Some very exhausted students returned home on Friday.

21.01.2022 Oakhill College proudly continues to support and assist the important work being done at The Sanctuary - The Hills Women's Shelter. You may have seen our Year 10 boys at Gala Day raising money and promoting the fantastic work they do, as we continue to #WalkTheTalk.

20.01.2022 We are ready to go for our Year 12 Graduation Mass which will be live streamed at 9.00am. Our families have been emailed the link for our Graduation Mass and Graduation Ceremony. If you have any problems please call our ICT Helpdesk.

20.01.2022 Oakhill College proudly supports Jersey Day which is on Friday 4th September. Jersey Day is all about promoting awareness of The Organ and Tissue Authority and the Donate Life Network. On Friday, we are asking our community to wear their favourite sporting jersey to show their support for the Donate Life network and begin the conversation with their friends and families about Organ Donation. Jersey Day has been inspired by the story of our own Nathan Gremmo who was tragically... lost in an accident in May 2015. Generous and loving to the end, Nathan Gremmo became an organ donor, his last and most amazing gift was to save the lives of six people. Hours before his death he wrote on his Instagram account, You only live once, but if you do it right once is enough. Wise beyond his years, he was an extraordinary young man. Did you know. one organ and tissue donor can transform the lives of many people. Australia is a world leader for successful transplants. Australias donation rate has more than double in recent years, but there is much more we can do. In Australia and internationally the need for transplantation exceeds the availability of organs. This is not a fundraising event it is all about raising awareness for this important issue. Simply wear your favourite sporting jersey and begin the conversation about organ donation. Students are to wear their jersey over their College uniform. For more information please visit: https://www.jerseyday.com.au #jerseyday #donatelife #lasalleanzppng #WeAreLaSalle

19.01.2022 R U OK? Now more than ever, it is important to ask R U OK? This has been a challenging year for everyone, and circumstances have made it even more vital for us all to stay connected and support those around us. To show our support of this important cause, Oakhill has undertaken a multitude of activities such as Madison from Year 12 who has created an inspiring fashion design and marketing strategy for her major project which aims to address the stigma around mental health and... remind us to ask R U OK? more than just once a year. Her dress has been all over the College re-inforcing this critical message. Weve had an enormous response with staff and students asking R U OK?; Kelly from Year 12 wrote a heads and tails quiz for junior students for Tutor Time; daily prayers; group activities; signage; merchandise and discussions just to name a few. Four easy steps: Ask R U OK? 19.01.2022 Today is Remembrance Day. At 11.00am Oakhill paused and reflected to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed for us. We honour all current and former service men and women who have served during wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. 17.01.2022 Yesterday Alejandro Astudillo represented Oakhill College by taking part in the Balcombe Heights Estate Remembrance Ceremony. 17.01.2022 Br Steve, staff and students at Oakhill College have been saddened to hear of the tragic explosion in Beirut and express our heartfelt concern for the people of Beirut and for any families in our community who have relatives affected by the blast. 17.01.2022 Today students from our First Rugby, boys and girls Football, Tennis and Netball teams received their Firsts Badges. Competition is always fierce at Oakhill, with high numbers of students trying out for these coveted team positions. Being in a Firsts team is a huge achievement and for many, a culmination of several years of training and hard work. Mr Wisemantel re-iterated how proud Oakhill was, and even though the season was condensed, that doesn't detract from this accompli...shment, and also acknowledged that the season we had, was exceptional. Its great to see these badges being worn with pride as they represent the significant achievement of being part of a Firsts team. Thanks to all our Team Coaches for attending today and who continue to ensure Oakhill Sport thrives. #oakhillcollegecommunity #moretooakhill

16.01.2022 Usually, at this time, we invite students from St Lucy's School to join us at Oakhill College to sing Christmas carols, but this year it wasn't to be so we went to St Lucy's School instead. Our Performing Arts and Mission Teams, along with Year 9 students made a video for St Lucy's of Christmas Carols and have also been busy writing cards and organising gifts. It was wonderful to see the happiness and joy that we bought them at Christmas time. #oakhillcollegeclassof2023 #mor...etooakhill #oakhillcollegecommunity See more

15.01.2022 Oakhill has celebrated the end of the year with our Thanksgiving Masses. It has been a tough year, but we have a lot to be grateful too. Amy from Youth Off The Streets spoke to our students about the hardships and difficulties that she sees children the same age as our students, face every day. She thanked Oakhill for the book donations. These books will allow children with challenges in their life an escape into a book for a short time. We thank our dedicated Mission Team, Fr Stephen from St Agatha's Parish, our band, choir and all the staff and students behind the scenes for a beautiful Mass to end 2020. #lasalleanzppng #oakhillcollegecommunity

15.01.2022 This year despite COVID, our energetic P&F Committee have been involved in a number of events. They had many others planned and have continued to meet via Zoom, so once restrictions are lifted further, we can re-commence our community occasions. Last week we were able to hold a small gathering of members and sponsors who have contributed throughout 2020, and the Oakhill College P&F Association Incorporated was pleased to hand over a cheque to assist in paying for our new shad...e sails over the old pool. We also said farewelled three members whose children have now graduated from Oakhill, and who have been key members on our P&F Committee for many years. We thank Marianne Dwyer, Annette Schweikert and Kim Brennan for their dedication, commitment and enthusiasm and wish them well in their future ventures. We also welcomed onto our P&F Committee for 2021 Sonia Nesci, Michelle Scarsbrook and Carina Morales. We have a very active P&F Committee and thank all our volunteering members for the untold hours and effort that you dedicate to Oakhill College.

14.01.2022 The Tournament of the Minds is an international problem solving program available for teams of students from all schools. The aim of the competition is for students to develop certain skills such as time management, working collaboratively, critical thinking and problem solving within a challenging environment. Oakhill participated in the Super Challenge with students in Year 7 and 8 participating in Social Sciences and Year 9 is participating in the Arts category. Students... were given a problem they needed to solve and then had to develop a creative and original way to communicate their solution. Our students worked tirelessly in teams throughout the day using their creative and critical thinking skills to solve challenges within a real-world setting and then videoed their solution. Ms Fairall and Ms Marokakis said the boys are applying themselves diligently to the project and are working closely and creatively during the challenge period. The teams will continue to work on this project for the next two weeks until their submissions are due. Good luck.

13.01.2022 BOOK WEEK // Write a Book in a Day thats easy for these junior students. Today the boys wrote a book in a day for The Kids Cancer Project. This is a fun, creative and collaborative challenge which allows us to give the gift of reading to sick children in hospital. Teams of up to ten students have 12 hours to write and illustrate a book that goes to children in hospitals all across Australia, as well as raising money for childhood cancer research. The task meant they had t...o incorporate specific criteria into their book such as certain characters, the setting and particular words had to be used. The boys started with a brainstorming session and then set about writing a chapter each or drawing illustrations, followed by reading and then editing. They all agreed the most significant challenge they faced was linking all the paragraphs together to create the consistency of the story. The end result was a very entertaining 5,000 word book. The boys were excited and upbeat about their project and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of having to write a book in a day. They all agreed that the day was a lot of fun and they had learnt a lot. The competition winners will be notified in November, but we think these students are already winners. Thanks to Ms Moriarty, Mrs Peacock and Ms Badaoui for assisting the boys today. #oakhillcollegecommunity #moretooakhill #lasalleanzppng #writeabookinaday

13.01.2022 Last Friday our Year 12 (2021) students headed off on the Oakhill bus for their Geography excursion. They participated in a guided tour of Tamburlaine Organic Wines in the Hunter Valley to learn about locational factors, ecological dimensions, linkages and global factors that impact an economic enterprise operating at a local scale. Our students toured the vineyard and learnt about soil composition, environmental constraints and the impact of harsh weather conditions on the ...grapes. They then visited the storage warehouse to learn about imports and exports and the intricacies involved in bottling wine. This excursion has deepened our student's understanding of Geography as they head into the HSC. #moretooakhill #oakhillcollegeclassof2021 #oakhillcollegecommunity

12.01.2022 On Friday Year 10 finished their Transition Program - Boys to Men with our Panel of Men, titled 'Be Brave'. This was a targeted session where four guest speakers shared insights from their life experiences. We welcomed: Tim Mannah - Ex-NRL Parramatta Eels who works for the Parramatta Eels organisation, Jason Stewart - Mental Health Support Officer NRL, Sergeant Duncan Abernathy BM VA - Police Force and Russell Garnett alumni and Managing Director and Founder of Urban and a...n Olympian, who continued our theme of identity of men in today's world, peer pressure, resilience and violence against women. These men openly discussed and shared their experiences, and hurdles, the dreams they've wanted to achieve and the often long and difficult path to achieve these dreams. After the panel, students heard from Zac Craig, a young Indigenous man who works with the BackTrack Program which enables young people who have lost their way to reconnect with education and training, become work ready and secure meaningful employment. The boys were mesmerised by his honest, heart-wrenching stories. We thank all our speakers and staff particularly Mr Jones and Mr Rath for their contributions to our program. 11.01.2022 Oakhill College is proud to be a participant in UNICEF Australia's Young Ambassador online consultations on the impact of Covid-19 on young people in Australia. Since April 2020, UNICEF Australia has surveyed over 1,000 young people across Australia to understand how the pandemic has impacted them. These current online consultations will inform Wave 2 of their research, which will continue throughout 2020 as part of UNICEFs ongoing commitment to hearing and elevating the voi...ces of young people across Australia. Student voice is essential at Oakhill, and we understand the pandemic has profoundly altered student's lives. Input from Oakhill students into this investigation will assist in helping to understand the changing effects that Covid-19 is having on our youth. This morning, students spoke with UNICEF Young Ambassadors from around Australia on a wide range of issues and experiences that have affected them during the current pandemic. This is a unique opportunity for Oakhill students to have a say and influence public policy at the highest level on matters that affect them. The consultation provided an engaging and practical platform to experience what it means to have rights and for the government to serve its people. Students also learned about children's rights and participated in an interactive discussion to share their lived experiences and what matters to them. Our students were appreciative of the opportunity to be asked their opinion on matters of national and international significance. It is pleasing to know that our students are contributing to understanding and change on a global level. The UNICEF Young Ambassadors will share the findings of their research with key decision-makers in government later in 2020. The students involved were: Year 11 - Elizabeth, Trinity and Adam Year 10 - Lachlan and Edirimuni Year 8 - Kieran and Adam Year 7 - Henry and Nathan #oakhillcollegecommunity #UNICEFAustralia

09.01.2022 Some of our Year 7 students have been participating in our Knowledge Program and today we celebrated their achievements. Congratulations to the boys for their persistence and enthusiasm in this program.

09.01.2022 Oakhill has launched this year’s Ration Challenge and so far, we have 40 senior Lasallian Youth Leader students and a few hearty teachers signed up to complete our annual Ration Challenge. The last year has been hard on young people. They have felt the effects of coronavirus on their own lives, and many have also worried about the devastating impact it’s having on vulnerable people around the world. The Ration Challenge Australia gives students the power to do something about... it. By putting themselves in the shoes of a refugee for one week, students learn about current global issues, develop empathy for others and feel empowered to make a difference in the world. Over a week, students will eat the same rations as a Syrian refugee (Sunday 13th -Thursday 17th June) and will be sponsored to do so. The money they raise will provide emergency food, healthcare and life-saving support for people hit hardest by the coronavirus. And by sharing their experience, they’ll help create more empathy and compassion in society. We are empowering Oakhill College students to change the world through the Ration Challenge. Our fundraising page is: https://schools.rationchallenge.org.au/t/oakhill-lasallian- for today every dollar is being matched 1 for 1. 08.01.2022 Oakhill is pleased to show you our new outdoor seating that faces onto Hermann Oval. This oval was not adequately equipped with appropriate seating to watch sport in comfort, however, due to the funds raised at our 2019 Sports Lunch, this significant upgrade has now been completed. We thank all those that attended our 2019 Sports Lunch, for what was a fabulous opportunity to hear from some sporting legends, as well as being an excellent chance for parents and students, past and present to catch up with friends and staff. Our next Sports Lunch will be held in June 2021.

07.01.2022 Congratulations to our HSC Drama Showcase students on their recent trial and HSC performances. This year has been no like no other, however, the resilience, life skills, support and co-operation that has been demonstrated by these students to each other, shows a maturity beyond their years. Drama develops skills such as teamwork, communication, creativity and adaptability and this year, students have had to use all these skills to perform in unique circumstances. Performers f...eed off the crowd and their reactions. They build a relationship with the audience, and communicate through movement, building energy and vitality as their performance progresses. Usually, for their trials and HSC performance exams, students are allowed to have a support crew attend, but this year they were only allowed to have one person for trials and no one for HSC. The students had to draw on all their skills to adapt and quickly, to having no audience connection, no atmosphere and no support crew and adapt they did, they have risen to the challenge and managed to pull it off successfully. Some students were lucky enough to see their performances at lunchtime this week and they were fabulous. Well done. #oakhillcollegecommunity #moretooakhill #oakhillcollegeclassof2020 #2020HSC

01.01.2022 Congratulations to these young men who were presented with their Consistent Application and Effort awards last week. It hasnt been easy for Year 7 starting at a new high school this year, with Covid-19 and remote learning, nevertheless, they have risen to the challenge and were rewarded for their hard work. 01.01.2022 Our Year 10 History students are studying The Holocaust and yesterday took part in an incursion planned to supplement this topic. In this study, students have learned the value of hearing survivor testimonies; Oakhill was fortunate to have a survivor of the Rwandan Genocide offer to speak about his experiences. In speaking to the boys, Olivier provided a voice to those who were lost in the genocide and allowed us to further understand this horrific time in history, highligh...ting that despite the repetitive mantra never again, genocides continue to happen in our contemporary society. Parallels between the Jewish story and our speakers experiences were made evident in the presentation though the hour and a half sessions students attended, were actually dominated by the boys asking questions and Olivier responding to these. The questions asked were informative, respectful, and demonstrated considerable thought and maturity. Olivier was so insightful and informative our Year 11 Society and Culture classes joined us, as did some Year 12 students in their free time. We thank Olivier for his time. #lasalleanzppng #WeAreLaSalle

A big thank you to our Performing Arts Music staff who have been preparing the students and also to IT who ensured the night went off very well.... #OakhillCollegeClassOf2020 #oakhillcollegecommunity #lasalleanzppng
