25.01.2022 RETURN TO TRAINING PROTOCOLS With the return to small group training underway for the older age groups, and imminent for the younger groups, we ask all members to familiarise themselves with the return to training - small groups protocols shown here and available on the club website www.oakleighdragons.org.au

23.01.2022 Well today would have been a beautiful Melbourne day to kick off Round 1 of the 2020 season. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, and we’re still unsure of the season start date. We hope you are remembering that exercise is not only allowed, but important for your physical and mental health. We can’t wait to see you all again soon.

23.01.2022 2020 SEASON START! Great news, the SMJFL have announced a 2020 season start date of 10 July! Things will be a little different this year as we prepare for the start of the season in COVID-19 safe ways, so please bear with us. For the time being please ensure that all families have at least one member with a Working With Children Check, keep training and keep following the Return to Training Protocols. We will be in touch shortly with updates! Go Dragons!

22.01.2022 Week 3 Training Schedule

21.01.2022 We can almost smell the change rooms after a muddy game!! Hi All The 2020 season is a step closer!!... As you will have heard the Government has started to relax some of the COVID-19 restrictions which I'm sure will please everyone, as this includes local junior football. The Oakleigh Dragons have contacted the SMJFL and the Monash Council to fast track the start of footy training and we are waiting for them to get back to us with their advice. We currently do not have access to the club rooms / toilets / first aid and need Council approval for this. There is an SMJFL meeting this Wednesday night followed by the Oakleigh Dragons Committee zoom meeting which we hope will provide some more information. So, we are a step closer but there are a few more steps to take before we return to 100 per cent footy operations. Thanks for your continued patience. We will be in contact as soon as we have approval from the SMJFL and Monash council to start training, or with any other news. See you soon Pat Heverin

20.01.2022 Great turn out on a wet night to our U17 Iso training session!

17.01.2022 GREAT NEWS!!!! Hi all, Just a quick update on the Oakleigh Dragon football and the SMJFL.... We have received an email from the SMJFL stating that they are aiming for a July 12th 2020 start (or sooner) to the season. This depends on the AFL, Health Departments and the State Government for approval. The AFL and the State Government will release a statement on May 11th which will give us a better understanding of what we can expect in 2020. As mentioned, the SMJFL are confident of getting a season started but it will have some changes (as expected) e.g. maybe a shortened season of 10 or 12 games instead of 15 and the finals pushing into late September / October (but these are ONLY examples). The season details have not been released but please be grateful / patient that a season is looking more and more confident each day. This is fantastic news because at the start of the Corona Virus the discussions around football in 2020 were very concerning. Like everyone the Oakleigh Dragons are super keen to get a season underway in 2020 but we need to start planning again. We may only get a 2 to 3 week pre season before the start of the 2020 season so start thinking about Football please. There are couple of things we all need to organise asap: Parents / Coaches -Get our kids (mine included) off play station and start touching a football and moving the legs. Make an effort to take the kids to any park for a run and kick with a football twice per week. Parents / Coaches - Need to get the working with children checks and coaching accreditations completed ASAP. (No accreditation means no coaching or helping out SMJFL / Dragons Policy) Get onto it now while its quiet ! The Oakleigh Dragons Committee do not want to be chasing parents / coaches for accreditation at start of this season as you can appreciate we will be concentrating on getting our kids playing football If there are any questions please let myself or Melita know but this is extremely happy news and great for everyone. See you soon Pat Heverin

17.01.2022 I hope you are all well and safe. While this year has been very challenging for all of us, it has made me realise how important junior football clubs are to everyone. The kids miss running around with their friends, the Girls' program is just starting to show momentum and the parents are missing catching up with their friends. So, we are planning for a bigger and brighter football season in 2021! To do this we need your help.... This post is aimed towards the parents of the Oakleigh Dragons U8 to U13 boys and girls but also open to anyone that would like to help. The current Oakleigh Dragons Committee will be losing a number of members this year and we need to replace them. These committee members have kids in the older age groups which means their time at the Oakleigh Dragons is coming to an end sooner rather than later. All junior sporting clubs are run by volunteers and the Oakleigh Dragons Junior Football Club is no different, so we need your help maintaining our great club! The Oakleigh Dragons need help in the following areas- Sponsorship (someone with marketing or sales would be perfectly suited) Canteen (organising supplies and game day duties) Bar Manager (be prepared to work behind the bar) Football Department (help organise Coaches and love your football) General Committee (anyone who is unsure what role they would like but wants to help out the committee) COVID Officer (to ensure we are doing all we can to be COVID safe) Ground Manager (help game day run smoothly at Scammell and Princes Highway) Serving on the Oakleigh Dragons Committee has been an extremely rewarding experience. During my time at the Oakleigh Dragons I have met some great people and formed new friendships with people I had not meet prior to the Oakleigh Dragons. I know that I will continue these friendships for many years after junior football. I cannot speak more highly of the friends I have met and the fun times had while at the Oakleigh Dragons! Lastly its extremely important that our kids understand that sporting clubs are run by the volunteers / parents and this is how we form a community. Please take the time to discuss / think about helping the Dragons committee. If you are able to help out please call / email me prior to the AGM on Friday the 27th of November (hopefully at the club rooms but this is subject to lifting of restrictions). 15.01.2022 Dear Oakleigh Dragons members & families, Unfortunately the SMJFL has today announced that due to the current situation with COVID-19 the regular 2020 football season will not go ahead. To see the full statement from SMJFL please see link below. As a result the Oakleigh Dragons committee has considered a number of options in relation to the registration fees paid by families for the 2020 season.... Could you please consider the following options and email [email protected] by no later than 15 August 2020 to confirm your choice. If you do not confirm your choice by this date your registration fees will be rolled over to the 2021 season. Options 1. Refund of registration fees less a $75 administration fee per family - please send through your bank account details if you choose this option (Account name, BSB & account number). While a $75 administration fee would normally be applicable for each membership considering the circumstances and the difficult times we have decided to limit this to $75 per family. 2. Rollover of registration fees to the 2021 season. This option will protect you from any potential increase in fees for the 2021 season. 3. Donation of the registration fees to the Oakleigh Dragons. Significant expenses have been incurred by the club this year even though the season will not proceed. Any donation will be greatly appreciated by the club and will contribute to the club's ability to provide a great environment for our children to play football. We realise this is disappointing and want to thank you for your patience this year. Please stay safe and take care during these challenging times. Kind Regards1 Pat Heverin President - Oakleigh Dragons https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/
