16.02.2022 The "Anatomical Snuff Box" is the medical term for the indent at the base of your thumb when you flare it outwards. The name refers to the practice of inhaling "snuff" (ground tobacco) - a practice popular in the mid 1800s. People would place the tobacco in the indent in order to sniff it - hence the term "snuffbox". Despite the slightly off-putting context, the name has stuck and can be found in medical textbooks! The Anatomical snuffbox is formed by two tendons - abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis. It is relevant for Osteopaths, because the scaphoid (a bone in the wrist) can be found in the snuffbox, and lets us know where we need to be checking for fractures after a fall onto an outstretched hand.

14.02.2022 Did you know that everyone (including men) have a pelvic floor? The pelvic floor is a collection of muscles that run between your legs. Your pelvic floor plays an important role in supporting your pelvic organs (bladder, intestine, uterus) and can influence pelvic function, such as going to the toilet (number 1 and number 2!), comfortable or functional intimacy, or other conditions such as sciatica, low back pain, pregnancy or pudendal neuralgia (pelvic pain). Pelvic floor dysfunction in both men and women may present as pelvic or lower back discomfort, incontinence (weeing or pooing when you don't mean to, for instance, when laughing or sneezing), constipation or sexual difficulties, such as pain or impotence. Speak to us if you have questions about your pelvic health!

05.02.2022 At Chadstone Region Osteopathy, we're committed to providing a COVID safe Clinic. We are doing this by: * Wearing N95 masks to protect you * Requiring all patients to also wear masks * Providing HEPA air purifiers in each treatment room... * Disinfecting all surfaces with ethanol solution between patients * Staggering appointments to reduce waiting room traffic. We request that all patients reschedule their appointments if they're feeling unwell. Thank you for helping us to help you! See more

25.01.2022 What have our Osteopaths missed during Lockdown? https://youtu.be/XwnOpTS-87E

24.01.2022 We have had multiple requests for more exercises Ft. Sophie... Now she's got a way to go on figuring out how to squat properly, but she's only 7 months old. Watch this space, she'll show you perfect technique soon enough! For all of those out there reading this taking a quick break from work, working from home or even teaching at home, squats are probably the best, quickest easiest way to get large muscles moving and blood pumping to reduce stiffness through hips and lower back. So whilst you're taking a cheeky Facebook break, pump through 20 squats here and now and tell us how you feel! Bonus points for posting vids of you doing them, or making your colleagues / housemates / kids / pets do them with you! :D

24.01.2022 Happy Monday! Update from Claire

24.01.2022 You're allowed to attend your appointment even if you live more than 5km away. You need proof of an appointment, so don't delete your reminder text and emails. We're here for you!

24.01.2022 Been sitting for a while? Getting a bit stiff? For every 30 minutes of sitting, add 30 seconds of movement!

24.01.2022 Active COVID-19 cases in Monash are down to one! With Coronavirus still of concern to Victorians, we are still ensuring that we sanitise all surfaces between patients, continue to wear masks and continue to lather ourselves in hand sanitiser before, during and after all appointments. We CANNOT get complacent - we all need to play our part to prevent Oakleigh from becoming a hot spot.... Thank you to all of our patients and to all the wonderful residents in our community - keep up the good work and let's stay safe together!

23.01.2022 The wisest people are the ones who never stop learning! Last weekend our fabulous Osteopath Tayla Rhodes added another feather to her cap by completing her Dry Needling course. We are looking forward to Tayla incorporating this new skill into her already thorough treatments. If you'd like to know more or make an appointment, give us a call on 03 9078 7603 or head to our website - www.chadstoneregionosteo.com.au

23.01.2022 How many of you are feeling sore, stiff, sluggish and stressed? Aerobic activity - like walking, cycling or jogging (anything "huffy-puffy") can reduce stress h...ormones such as adrenaline and cortisol, as well as lubricate joints, relax stiff muscles, and release endorphins - our body's natural pain killers. We're living in weird times. It's totally understandable that we're all feeling a bit blah. Try and keep exercise in your daily routine to help to feel a bit better. See more

22.01.2022 Have you been told you need to strengthen your glutes? Strong gluteal muscles help provide stability and support to the hips and lower back. This banded exercise can generate quite a burn into gluteus medius on the outside of the hips in a very short period of time!

Building strength into the muscles that support the upper back can help to reduce strain on the neck and shoulders.
