23.01.2022 ** The first taste of Storm Season tomorrow and Saturday in SE QLD? ** Its September and also the start of Spring and we all know what that can mean? The start... of our traditional storm season... and tomorrow looks like the first day we may get a taste of it! Thunderstorms are likely to develop in western parts tomorrow afternoon around the Maranoa and western Darling Downs with the potential they may be severe primarily with the threat of damaging winds but also some potential for some marginally large hail. We probably wont see anything around Southeast QLD during the day tomorrow, however some decent wind shear means these storms out west could possibly make it to the coast during the night tomorrow. The trough isnt forecast to push offshore until some stage late on Saturday either, meaning the Brisbane and Southeast QLDs best chance of seeing a storm will probably be on Saturday. Once again the wind and hail threat may come into play, however theres also a potential issue of morning cloud cover and leftover light rain from the night before inhibiting the potential for severe storms to develop during Saturday afternoon. Nevertheless, Brisbane should see "some" sort of weather with the passage of the trough during Saturday before some drier air moves through on Sunday with conditions returning back to mainly sunny. This is the K Index from GFS for tomorrow night at 7pm showing the area where storms may be likely at this time tomorrow night. (Cam)
