01.01.2022 Australian National Maritime Museum to reopen on June 22 It’s hard to believe that it has been eight weeks since we temporarily closed our doors. Since then, we... have been working hard behind the scenes to create new and exciting ways to stay connected with you, our visitors. As many of us look to art and culture to provide a salve to the uncertainty and disruption we are experiencing we were pleased to hear this week of the restrictions being lifted and the re-opening up of Australia’s museums and galleries. The health and safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors is our utmost priority and over the next few weeks we will be putting in place new procedures to ensure the museum is a safe place to work and visit before we reopen our doors on 22 June. Our members will be offered a sneak peek and exclusive access to experience the ‘new museum’ from the 15th of June. The changes include pre-booked sessions to manage visitor numbers, social distancing, increased cleaning measures and changes to some of the experiences. Experiences such as our submarine and 3D cinema, which require visitors to be in enclosed spaces, will unfortunately not be offered at present. Similarly, we will not be offering high touch experiences such as children's play activities. While some of the museum is closed we are also in the process of planning new programs we can host while social distancing measures are in place. We’re also focused on continuing our online offer to ensure those who can’t physically visit still get to experience the museum. Finally we would like to thank you for your ongoing support and look forward to seeing you back at the museum very soon.
