20.01.2022 For thousands of years, nature’s intricate interrelationships have allowed migratory species to flourish while moving through the seas. It’s so important that p...eople are aware of the creatures that they share the ocean with. If the whales aren’t healthy, humans won’t be healthy, either. I applaud the Hope Spot Champions and their partners for coming together and joining forces to protect the Gold Coast Bay for not only Australia but for the entire planet. https://mission-blue.org//gold-coast-bay-hope-spot-embrac/ Humpbacks & High-Rises, Surfrider Foundation Gold Coast, Surfrider Foundation Australia, Reef Check Australia, AJSBA.org.au, Friends Of Federation Walk, Ngarang-Wal Gold Coast Aboriginal Association Incorporated, Sea World Cruises, Whales In Paradise, Devocean Dive, Sea the Gold Coast, Gold Coast Dive Adventures, Spirit of Gold Coast Whale Watching, Ocean Connect, Griffith University, Griffith Centre for Coastal Management, Griffith Climate Change Response Program, Friends of Kirra Reef, Gecko Environment Council, Whales and Climate, Watergum, Surfers Paradise Dive&Cruise, Dolphin Research Australia

14.01.2022 Do you remember when we made our giant sea turtle sand sculpture the other week? 13.01.2022 We all know the health of our ocean is so important. Protecting water quality, sea life and making sure our beaches stay beautiful. Our next step: Collaborating with the City of Gold Coast to supply 3 sieves to collect microplastics from the beaches. Microplastics are tiny fragments of plastic that appear to be food to unsuspecting sea life. And not only that, they destroy the beauty of our pristine beaches. The effects of this will be massive and long-lasting. Any suppo...rt you can provide is greatly appreciated and will help clean up polluted water. And now that we’ve partnered with Little Phil, giving is now easier than ever! The best news is, Little Phil is giving away $50k to charities but there’s a twist, you get to choose where it goes! We hope you choose wisely (pick us ). So what are you waiting for? Jump over to Little Phil littlephil.org, tap on the banner at the top of the page and follow the prompts to get your free $10 giving credit!

13.01.2022 What a wonderful school holiday session this morning at the Palm Beach Surf Club with some budding marine biologists learning about the world of nudibranch (more commonly known as sea slugs). Kids were engaged in learning about the different types of nudibranch, their secret lives and where you can find them. They made some stunning creations to take home! If you are keen to join this session next week, get in touch with the surf club who have been incredibly generous to support this workshop!

12.01.2022 Rocky shore explore supported by @naturallygc City of Gold Coast. A group of 23 kids joined us this morning for an up close and personal with some of the residents of the rocky shores of Burleigh heads. We were even lucky enough to meet Deb Aston from #goldcoastseaslugcensus who was leading a training session in preparation of the seaslug census next week. She showed us some amazing Nudibranch she found right there! Thanks for joining us this morning and thank you to our volunteer marine biologists Suki, Fabi and Maggie.

09.01.2022 Learning about microplastics on our beaches with Dr. Fabiana Moreira. Help us collect some data with our citizen science project towards mapping the presence of microplastics in a selection of Gold Coast beach locations! Our next session is on Thursday! Sessions supported by the City of Gold Coast - City Infrastructures City of Gold Coast

06.01.2022 We had a wonderful time this morning exploring the rocky shores with the Burleigh Heads Joeys. Thank you for supporting our organisation Regina Kidd! The usual suspects (limpets, barnacles, sea cucumbers etc.) were all happy to show themselves off but we were particularly lucky to spot a beautiful nudibranch in the low tide zone. The Blue-Dot Margined Flatworm (Pseudoceros indicus). Unfortunately we also spotted a dog off leash that was having a snack on some of the creatures in the area. Please help us to raise awareness to keep dogs on the lead to protect this environment including these amazing nudibranchs! Photo credit: Maggie Muurmans
