23.01.2022 On a recent visit to Belgium I visited their major museum complex in Brussels handily the auto, aviation and military museums are housed under the one roof, and extremely large roof, unfortunately like many large museums too many exhibits in a cramped space however, attached is a sample of what can be clearly seen.
20.01.2022 Many thanks for all the kinds and follow-ups the team have been flat out lately working on projects for the NVVM, just last week the main undercarriage on Canberra A84-307 was cycled completly under the aircrafts hydraulic system, the rewiring of the Caribou 231 is complete and a new set of seats have been manufactured by our team. The NVVM Grumman Tracker is about to begin a major refurbishment. Hope to have some photos/vidio for the next installment
18.01.2022 Some of the wonderful flying machines to be found at the Shuttleworth collection, on this particular day it was the first flight of the Hawker Sea Hurricane after a highly detailed restoration.
14.01.2022 RAF Tangmere is well known for its part in the Battle of Britain and the subsequent air operations after the BoB, I took the attached photos while on a brief visit earlier this year. Tangmere is predominately housed in the original station buildings and holds and amazing collection of photos, memorabilia, paintings and other RAF related artefacts.
14.01.2022 Some photos from a recent visit to the revamped Brooklands Aviation Museum. This museum is not large by any means but is a great demonstration of what can be done with very small space and a re-erected 1930s Belman hangar. Until recently the hangar resided on the main straight of the Brooklands motor racing circuit.
13.01.2022 Some photos of the more interesting exhibits from a recent visit to the Imperial War Museum Duxford England
11.01.2022 Following our stop-off at the BBMF we went across to RAF Cosford, I have always been keen to see their gallery for experimental and proto type aircraft. There was not a lot of aircraft on display but what was there was worth the trip, I also took the opportunity to look at some of the more interesting types in the WWII gallery.
09.01.2022 Caught the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight practicing for the RAF 100th Anniversary
04.01.2022 It is good to see the end of 2017, for most of the year my health was poor with ongoing treatment and much less input from me. The group has worked through one of the worst Winters in the last 20 years or so, the volunteers doing a wonderful job under the most trying conditions carrying out repairs to the Caribou fuselage etc. One of the biggest issues has been the repair of fatigue in the dorsal skins of the fuselage at the production joints between the centre wing section and where the empennage joins the forward fuselage, an example is in the attached photos showing the fatigue and the new work required for the wing centre section.
04.01.2022 I made a brief one day visit to the RNFAAM at Yoevilton in May 2018 which plainly was not enough, they have a great reputation in the museum industry and I must say they lived up to it in every way. Their displays are great plenty of room around the artefacts, they accommodated all of my/our requests giving us access to closed departments. Perhaps the most inspiring of all of the galleries was the underwater Blackburn Skua recovery in Norwegian waters. The most entertaining and enlightening was the working carrier deck and the following tour through 3 decks of the carrier whilst flying aircraft on and off. Attached are some of the more interesting aircraft to be found throughout the museum, sprinkled throughout the collection are some very rare prototypes that come as a surprise each time one moves onto another gallery.
03.01.2022 From Belgium we moved onto England where our first visit was to the Allied Air Forces Memorial situated some 1.5hrs north of York. The memorial includes a largish museum collection with some interesting aircraft. The airfield on which the memorial and museum stand was used primarily by Canadian and Free French squadrons flying mostly the Halifax heavy bomber. Some 80,000 Allied airmen are are listed at this memorial.
