04.01.2022 I created @oceannah_west_jewellery Because Im down the beach every day, swimming, diving, paddle boarding, surfing, sand boarding the dunes, fishing. So my jewellery needed to be strong, durable, rust resistant, beautiful & easy to care for. I just couldnt find all these qualities in anything I bought from a shop or online. So I started making my own. Everyone goes for sterling silver, and I really dont know why, sterling silver is mixed with other metals, alloy & mostly ...copper which is why sterling silver tarnishes & rusts, copper goes green with oxidation & funky stuff happens to your jewellery & can cause irritation to your skin & discolouration to your jewellery & skin. Pure silver is just way to soft. Stainless steel which is the only way to go!!! And all my jewellery is stainless!!! Hospital grade, hypoallergenic, very strong, extremely durable, never ever tarnish or rust, keeps its lustre, very hard to scratch & dent. MNo special care needed at all! I just love stainless steel! I also use kangaroo leather, hemp, cotton cord & recycled fishing line. Roo leather is of course an Australian product, extremely strong in comparison to cow leather, soft, durable, long wearing, yes you can wear in the ocean, but wash with fresh water at the end of the day & dry in the shade. Hemp is a lovely natural fibre, vegan friendly, but it will wear much quicker than the leather or cotton cord. Wear it in the ocean & pools, I prefer the cotton cord personally as its stronger. Cotton cord is a polished & waxed & very long wearing, again wear it in the ocean or pools, but rinse with fresh water & dry in the shade at the end of the day. Our recycled fishing line is either our own discarded line or line iv picked up off the beach that we find when we beach comb, we always pick up rubbish, to help keep our coastline healthy. Now those fishing line cords will outlast everyone, if left in the environment they can take 500 years to degrade . So I love the recycled fishing line!! Lasting basically forever & also being removed from the environment is feel good moments wearing these lines . So there ya have it! quick run down on the foundation of my jewellery. See more
