20.01.2022 We can all become consumed by life’s challenges and responsibilities from time to time. When that all too familiar heightened state and survival mode kicks in and stays for more than a passing visit, it’s important to remain conscious of our patterns, our thoughts and our coping mechanisms so we can make choices that bring us back to balance, rather than lead us on a downward spiral. Take time to slow down & reset, re-establish healthy boundaries, identify what is really imp...ortant in our life and always make room for self care & connection with others. Sometimes we will face challenges that feel insurmountable & relentless, but as we know from our past experiences, everything DOES pass eventually and you have ALWAYS survived what life has thrown at you. A reminder today to slow down, see the beauty that already surrounds your life, notice what you already have to be grateful for...and take time to stop & smell the flowers.

16.01.2022 Sunflowers have always been my favourite flower & I find that they always brighten and lift the mood in my home. Pondering on why I am drawn to the sunflower, I realised I see a flower that stands alone, yet is tall & strong. They are bright, joyful & unique and always gravitate to the light. I love what they represent. Sunflowers are known as the happy flower. The colour yellow itself is known to represent happiness, playfulness, optimism & hope. ... What is your favourite flower & what does it represent to you?



07.01.2022 Responding is a conscious decision, whereas reacting is instinctive & is all about survival. With unresolved trauma, it can be extremely difficult to respond rather than react when under significant threat that triggers a fear or deep wound. It can take time, practice & a conscious effort to train your brain to override the instinctual, reactive mode and change your neurology & create new neural pathways. The paradox of choosing to be responsive is that it requires us to be ...both present & aware of the future. We need to be both cognisant of the effect of our actions, & we need to know what actions are best in the situation. When we react, we are reacting out of fear based on what we have been genetically disposed to do to protect ourselves. With an overactive amygdala in the brain of trauma survivors that fires off when under threat, it can be extremely challenging to override this dysregulation to make a conscious choice to respond rather than react. With focus on rewiring the brain, calming the nervous system, removing yourself from toxic environments & exercising techniques that change your neurology; it is possible to learn to respond rather than react as second nature, even when faced with threatening situations. 05.01.2022 Patterns of settling for less than we deserve generally have to do with our core, unconscious beliefs about ourself. Many people believe at deep level they are not worthy of something better or more, so they settle. If we are unhappy, unfulfilled or continually hurt, why would we stay in a relationship, friendship or situation that doesn’t bring us what we want & need to live a fulfilling life? It’s not that simple where subconscious programming is at play. ... Sometimes the settling happens gradually. We set the standard in the beginning & hope people will change in time to meet us where we want to be. When this doesn’t happen, we stay, we settle & we compromise ourselves. We allow the lacking in others & their unwillingness to change to gradually erode holes in us. We let go of things that are important to who we are, what we believe & how we would like to be treated & loved. We settle when we lower our standard of what we deserve & compromise ourselves & our own needs. This in turn reinforces our belief that we are not worthy of anything better. As we work on shifting limiting beliefs & developing higher levels of self worth, we often find those who aren’t supportive or respectful of us in the way we need, or aren’t aligned with our values; will no longer be who we are drawn to have as close companions on our life journey. Sometimes people around you can step up, shift & change with you & the relationship can become aligned with the version that knows your worth & doesn’t require you to compromise your truth. If you feel you are chronically settling for less than you deserve, do the work to address any unconscious limiting beliefs that may be holding you back in patterns of unworthiness. Compromising yourself for a false sense of security in relationships isn’t going to bring you the health & happiness you truly deserve
