21.01.2022 Antique European Vase Lamp SOLD This antique European vase lamp is very different to English or American oil lamps.... It has a beautifully hand painted ceramic vase with a drop in font and a cut glass shade. The decoration on the vase is a combination of beautiful small birds in bright blue, pink and brown colours with pendulous sprays of flowers that are probably wisteria. These gorgeous motifs are made all the more striking thanks to the satin black background. The cut glass shade has a lovely band of diamond cutting around the centre of the shade with a band of flowers and leaves above it. The floral decoration ties in well with the decoration on the vase. The font has an intricately patterned metal top, probably spelter, and a glass bowl. The burner is fitted with a good wick and the chimney is marked Fire King Made in Czechoslovakia so the chimney must have been made before 1st January 1993 when the country was dissolved. However, we believe the lamp itself is more likely to date from around 1890-1920. 19.01.2022 Bullseye and Fleur-de-lis Composite Lamp c.1860s AU$225 plus shipping The font pattern for this composite lamp is called Bullseye and Fleur-de-lis and it was made in America during the 1860s.... In her third book Oil Lamps 3, Catherine Thuro shows this lovely font on page 15(c) with a glass base. The pattern is detailed and very well formed with the concave centres of the bullseyes creating an additional optical effect. The brass stem is also highly decorative with crossed bands of small circles running the full length of the stem. A plain brass connector joins the stem to the unusual dark brown soapstone (slate) base. The lamp is much heavier than similar composite lamps. The lead glass font is quite thick in the pattern panels, particularly where the bullseyes are formed. The soapstone base further adds to the weight of the lamp and these things make it a very stable lamp. Finally, a vintage burner and a new wick and chimney complete this lovely antique oil lamp. 18.01.2022 Green Glass Font Table Lamp AU$175 plus shipping This time we have an English table lamp with a green glass font that dates to circa 1910.... The font has a very interesting optic pattern within the glass. It also has a series of ridges across the top of the font where the glass has been drawn in to the neck. The lovely green glass font sits atop a black painted cast iron base. The base is decorated with a wading bird on each face. 17.01.2022 English Table Lamp circa 1930 AU$195 plus shipping This English table lamp dates to circa 1930. The font has lovely hand painted floral decorations and the base is black painted cast iron.... The decoration on the font is still as bright as the day it was painted without any signs of loss or fading. The delicate apricot and mauve coloured flowers are set off beautifully by the emerald green leaves. The flowing style of the base further enhances the delicacy of the decorations to produce a very attractive lamp. 14.01.2022 Early Melon Pattern Oil Lamp AF AU$175 plus postage This early Melon pattern oil lamp is quite old.... It was made in the USA during the 1860s. This style of pattern was used by many companies so it is almost impossible to say who the maker was. The wide ribs were very useful to disguise imperfections in the glass. The brass stem and marble base reinforce the dating of the lamp. This style was popular until the mid 1860s when their popularity started to wane in favour of glass bases. A vintage burner, new wick and new chimney complete this lovely little antique oil lamp. Although it is a small lamp in comparison to later ones, it still has a presence and won’t go unnoticed. The glass font is in excellent condition without any chips, cracks, bruises or damage of any kind. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the brass stem. It has had a hard life and has been badly damaged at some time in its past. It appears that the stem was bent and then straightened and repaired. This also occurred many years ago judging by the patina in the dents. The marble base has fared better than the stem. It is in quite good condition for its age with only a couple of tiny nicks on the edges and corners. The original square nut is still in place and you can see where the corners have worn away some of the marble during its long life. It is likely that over tightening of this nut caused the damage on the stem. What wonderful stories this early Melon pattern oil lamp could tell if only it could talk. 13.01.2022 Reproduction Banquet Lamp SOLD Make no mistake, this is definitely a relatively modern reproduction banquet lamp. Regardless of that, it is still a lovely lamp.... At first glance the font looks to be ruby glass but once the light is behind it, you can see that it is more like amberina. Either way, it is a lovely colour. The stem and base cap of the banquet lamp are brass and the base itself is black enameled ceramic. The etched and amber tipped shade was made by Vianne Glass, France sometime before 2005 when the business closed. They had a huge inventory at the time so there are still many of their shades available new. This was also one of their most popular shades so it is difficult to say exactly when this one was made. 12.01.2022 Crown Crystal Six Star Lamp AU$80 plus shipping This is the clear version of the Crown Crystal Glass Six Star finger lamp. Surprisingly, this is the first clear one we have had. In the past we have had the green uranium glass version of this lamp and a citrine All Over Stars finger lamp but not a clear glass one. Unlike the other two though, this one no longer has its original burner.... These little lamps have an applied handle so they can be easily carried from room to room. Ideal for when going to bed or for that long walk to the outside conveniences. Unfortunately, this Crown Crystal Six Star finger lamp does have a small fault. There is an area of roughness at the top of the handle where it is attached to the font. It is very difficult to tell whether it is a glass over run or a small crack. Nothing can be felt inside the font and it doesn’t leak. There is also what feels like a small chip on the inside of the handle in the same area but this could also have happened when the handle was being attached. We can’t decide whether it is a manufacturing flaw or something that has happened later. We were unable to get a clear photo of the area. 07.01.2022 Marble Base Oil Lamp circa 1860s AU$195 plus shipping This antique marble base oil lamp has an Onion Repeat pattern font. The name sounds uninviting but the pattern certainly is not. Quite to the contrary, the flame like pattern around the bottom half of the font is detailed and very attractive. Coupled with the ribbing above the central band, the overall effect is very pleasing to the eye.... The tapered stem is brass and the base is marble. The original square nut that secures the lamp to the base is still in place as well. Finally, a vintage burner and a new wick and chimney complete this lovely lamp. Overall, this antique marble base oil lamp is in very good to excellent condition. The marble base has a few fleabites on the edges and has discoloured over the years but considering the lamp is around 150 years old, that is nothing more than is expected through age and use. The glass font is free of any chips, cracks or damage of any kind and it is even free of air bubbles or other manufacturing flaws. We believe this lamp once had some sort of frame fitted around the font. There are still three small dabs of solder on both the collar and the stem directly below the font. These marks align top and bottom and there are also some small pieces of metal still attached to those on the stem. We have no idea what this frame would have been for or what it looked like. We haven’t tried to remove the solder because that would require the application of heat which could easily cause the glass to crack. As glass ages, it becomes more susceptible to changes in temperature. There is also a small abraded area on the top of the font close to where the frame probably sat. 07.01.2022 Iron Base Kerosene Lamp c.1870s AU$215 plus shipping This iron base kerosene lamp was made in the USA during the 1870s.... The two piece cast iron base is well moulded with lovely floral motifs around the base. Whilst it is one of the more commonly seen iron bases, it is still a very elegant but understated base. The base is finished with black paint. The pattern of the font falls into the group of patterns known as Frosted with Clear Bar. This simple but effective pattern is seen on many differently shaped fonts but generally without the dot in the middle of the bars like this one has. The font also has the extended collar which was popular during the 1870s. Finally, a vintage burner and a new wick and chimney complete this simple but lovely antique American composite lamp. 05.01.2022 English Hand Painted Table Lamp circa 1905 AU$195 plus postage Here we have an English hand painted table lamp circa 1905.... It has a lovely opaque blue glass font with hand painted floral decorations and a cast iron base. The floral decoration on the base compliments the font decorations beautifully. The gold paint on the base is less commonly seen but suits this lamp very nicely. Finally, this lovely antique kerosene lamp is fitted with a vintage burner and chimney and a new wick. 04.01.2022 Pair of Australian Late Petal Lamps SOLD Here we have a pair of clear glass Australian Late Petal kerosene lamps.... The lamps were made by Crown Crystal Glass Co. in Sydney and were in constant production for many years between the wars. The glass is thick and the lamps are quite heavy compared to lamps made prior to World War I. They are certainly very stable and I think they would have been almost indestructible. Perhaps that is why so many of them are still around now. Please use this link to find out more about this lovely little lamp http://www.oillampantiques.com//australian-late-petal-lam/

03.01.2022 Smokey Blue Glass Finger Lamp c.1900 SOLD This unusual smokey blue glass finger lamp has a rib pattern within the glass. It also has an eight pointed star moulded into the body on the opposite side to the handle.... It is hand blown with a multitude of tiny air bubbles within the glass and it also has an applied handle. We can’t be sure where this kerosene finger lamp was made. It has the look of an English lamp but is fitted with an American style collar. Given that in Australia in the early 20th century lamp parts were sourced from both countries, it could well have been made here. The design of the lamp certainly indicates that it was made in the late 19th or early 20th century.
