13.02.2022 A recent study evaluated 369 commercial essential oil combinations for their support of healthy respiratory function during respiratory infections. Combined ess...ential oils showed a synergistic antimicrobial effect, reduced toxicity, and improved anti-inflammatory properties. Five combinations were the most promising, including cypress/tea tree, hyssop/rosemary, marjoram/tea tree, oregano/tea tree, and myrtle/tea tree. These combinations can be diffused, steam inhaled, or diluted and applied to the chest to support open airways and healthy respiratory system function. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34943729/ See more

01.02.2022 Do you use a dry shampoo? Did you know some dry shampoos available, like normal shampoos, have harmful ingredients in them that you may want to avoid using like... propane and isobutane. Alcohols, some of which can be drying, also tend to be included to soak up any oily or greasy patches. With frequent use, commercial dry shampoos may leave your hair dry and more prone to breakage. Rather than spend money on another product, you can make a dry shampoo very simply with only a couple of ingredients, and make it safer as well! You can add essential oils to the mix for some extra benefits to the hair, but also for a nice aroma and avoiding synthetic and harmful fragrances. Lavender has antimicrobial benefits and Peppermint is energising for the scalp. You could also try oils like Tea Tree, Ylang Ylang, Geranium or Rosemary. It is easy to make your own dry shampoo: What you need: 2 Tablespoons of Arrowroot 20 drops of essential oil 1-2 teaspoons of your chosen colour powder (If you have darker hair, you can add Cocao powder to the mix to reduce the grey tones. If you have black hair, try charcoal but only a small amount at a time. If you have red hair, try cinnamon.) What you do: Mix ingredients until smooth. You may need to press the essential oils into the powder with the back of a spoon to ensure they distribute evenly. Store in an airtight container. How to use: To apply to your hair: You can use your fingertips, a large makeup brush, or a shaker. Gently dust the dry shampoo onto your scalp. Don't apply too much! If you really want to hide any evidence of the product, brush it underneath the layers of your hair. Massage it into your roots. This will evenly distribute the mixture and help the ingredients absorb into hair strands. Brush or comb the powder through your hair. This especially help if you’ve accidentally applied too much. You will probably find you need to wash your hair after approximately 3 applications. Give this a try and let us know how you go!

21.01.2022 Amnesia is the partial or total loss of memory. It can result from brain damage after a head injury, stroke, seizure, or chronic alcohol abuse, or from degenera...tive brain diseases like Alzheimer's disease and dementia. A preclinical model of amnesia found that inhaling a combination of sweet orange (68%), lemon (30%), lavender (1%), sage (0.5%), and rosemary (0.5%) essential oils reversed memory deficits by reducing brain oxidative stress and modulating enzymes involved in memory function. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7181224/ Diffuse 4 drops of orange, 2 drops of lemon, and 1 drop each of lavender and rosemary to support healthy cognition.

17.01.2022 I love that essential oils are being tested in more and more hospital and healthcare settings because I believe it improves patient satisfaction and outcomes. 08.01.2022 It's Monday YAY. We are getting into the "busy" time of the year so we have put together some tips to help you feel better as you travel through the week that m...ay help you to feel better along the way. Here are 10 tips to help you feel better this week - and we have added a number of essential oil tips you can try as well. This list may make it feel like there are so many things you have to add to your week. Read the list and find just one thing you can add to your week to help you feel better! 1: EAT MORE LIVE FOODS The number one tip to help you feel better is to eat more LIVE food. This can be something as simple as having a small bowl of raw carrots, cucumber and cherry tomatoes as your afternoon snack, or some fresh fruit to your breakfast. Look for one simple change you can make to add something live to your diet this week. 2: GET MORE SLEEP This can be really hard when the world is demanding so much from us. There never seems to be enough time to finish everything that needs to be done. If we just stay up one more hour we can get that little extra task finished sacrificing sleep is worth it right? The National Sleep Foundation released an article that getting adequate sleep helps you stay focused, prevent burnout, make better decisions, improve your memory, and help you make fewer mistakes due to lack of focus or fatigue! Even 10-15 minute power naps have been shown to have immense health benefits! Oil Tip: Start diffusing Lavender oil about 30 minutes before bedtime. Lavender is known for its relaxing qualities. 3: DEEP BREATHING This one is such an amazing way to reduce stress, ground yourself, and make you feel better instantly, and the only thing you need is you! With so many things wanting our attention these days, taking a moment to be still, and then taking a few deep breaths in and out is a great way to find some peace and focus. Give it a try now. Then set a reminder for each day to stop and breathe. Oil Tip: Add 1-2 drops of your favourite oil to your hands and cup them over your nose while you breathe deep. Peppermint is a great option to help clear your head or add a pick me up in the afternoon. 4: FIND WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS Here are some simple ways that have been shown to help reduce stress through the day. Create a daily routine Spend time with an animal Write in a journal Take some deep breaths Do some stretches or exercise Spend some time outside on grass with bare feet Oil Tip: use citrus oils like lemon, lime, orange or grapefruit to lift your mood and help make things feel more manageable. Use grounding oils like firs, frankincense, spruce or cedarwood to help calm the mind and senses. 05: INCORPORATE MOVEMENT INTO YOUR DAILY ROUTINE Have you ever been sitting in front of a screen for hours, maybe watching the 5th episode in a row of your favourite show and you just feel blah? Get up, take a walk around the house or office or down the street and back. Do some stretches or a workout from YouTube. Any kind of movement can help you feel better. 6: REDUCE EXPOSURE TO TOXINS Pollutants are everywhere car smog, industrial pollution, in cleaning products, skincare products, in our water and on our food. Switching your products to a cleaner option, or even making your own, washing your fruit and veggies, installing a water filter whatever it is, by simply reducing the amount of toxins you come into contact with can really help you to feel better (and be a lot healthier!) Oil Tip: add 10 drops of lemon and some apple cider vinegar to a bowl of water and soak your fruit and vegetable for about 10-15 minutes before using them, and then rinse them. This will help remove pesticides and contaminants from their surface. 7: DRINK MORE WATER! Drinking enough water is essential for our health and wellbeing. Water makes up 50 to 80 percent of our body weight and every single cell, tissue and organ requires it to function. We continuously lose fluid through sweating, breathing and digestion, so it’s important to rehydrate. We not only require water to survive, but to thrive. The recommended daily water intake is 2.1 litres for women and 2.6 litres for men. Keep a water bottle with you through the day so it’s easy to drink water and ensure you fill it up a few times throughout the day so you know you are drinking water. Oil Tip: If you are not a big fan of the taste of water, invest in a good quality water filter. You can also add a drop of citrus oil to your water to help add flavour and encourage you to drink more water. 8: STRENGTHEN YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM Exercise, reducing toxins, drinking more water, getting more sleep and eating more fresh fruit and veggies are also great ways to help strengthen your immune system. Just start with one thing you can do each day to help yourself out! Oil Tip: Incorporate immune supporting oils and blends regularly to help strengthen your immune system so you stay well and help you feel better. Add drops to your diffuser or apply to the bottom of your feet each morning and night as a proactive way to support your health. 9: LAUGH AND HAVE FUN! In all the busyness of our lives, one really simple thing you can do to feel better is to make time to laugh. Take the afternoon off to spend time laughing and playing with your loved ones! Oil Tip: diffuse a citrus oil or blend to keep the mood light and happy. 10: PRACTICE GRATITUDE Whatever works best for you, whether in the morning or at night, take time to think about or write down 3-5 things that you are grateful for each day. This simple practice helps to rewire your brain to be more positive and can even help to improve your physical well-being! Oil Tip: Choose a favourite oil and use 1-2 drops while doing your daily gratitude. When you use this oil as you retrain your brain for gratitude, smelling it at other times can help bring your mind and body back to those feelings of gratitude when needed. What one thing will you add to your week?

02.01.2022 Even the simplest of items can have additives. Take this, for example, good old cream, a simple swap and you're avoiding: Carrageenan (407): An additive deri...ved from red algae or seaweed. Most commonly used as a thickener, stabiliser, or binding agent in foods, toothpaste, and health care products. Degraded carrageenan or poligeenan may increase the risk of gastrointestinal cancer. May increase the risk of inflammatory bowel disease. Causes inflammation And more... Check it all out here as well as linked studies: https://draxe.com/nutrition/what-is-carrageenan/ Doesn't sound good huh? We just buy pure, plain cream. Organic if we can get it. 01.01.2022 It's not new news that 'artificial fragrance' is classed as bad as second-hand smoke... meaning that artificial fragrance has some serious (bad) health effects,... just like passive smoking does. When you swipe left you will see what we mean. Try typing a perfume's list of ingredients into The Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep website https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ According to healthdirect.com.au one in three people report having health issues when exposed to artificially fragranced products. Asthma attacks Skin irritations & rashes Eye irritations Headaches/Migraines Dizziness Congestion Nausea Seizures As a child, I can remember asking Mum to not wear perfume in the car, as every time I would vomit. It was horrendous and I would feel nauseous instantly from the smell, being in that confined space without fresh air - it never ended well. And let's not forget that perfume/fragrance is actually a massive concoction of ingredients. You might see that one word written on an ingredients list, this is the fragrance industries way of duping us - we have zero idea what they make a fragrance from. There are literally thousands of ingredients they can choose from, and yet, still only list that one, single word on a label - so wrong! Do we really want to be risking our health for the sake of smelling nice, when there is a better, safer, and cheaper way to do it? 100% pure, unadulterated, high-grade essential oils are all you need to smell nice. But the most important thing is your body is not being polluted with unnecessary toxic chemicals that it either can't process, or has to work overtime to excrete from your body. Remember - what goes on your body, goes into your body! So which do you choose? This month we are determined to impact as many lives as possible to make simple swaps for low-tox living and this is one simple swap that makes a massive difference to your health. Instead of buying perfume this Christmas, give the gift of essential oils. We can help with this and it's much cheaper than you think. If you're unsure what oils you want then message us and we can get you sorted or head to: https://additivefreelifestyle.com/instructions/ Tracey x
