25.01.2022 Liberty is such a valuable tool in truly understanding where our horses and our relationship with them is at....
25.01.2022 And still it rains. We are now officially 'girt by sea'. Well not the actual ocean, more pelican creek actually.
25.01.2022 I think you forgot the girth silly human.....follow my energy...it goes under here . colt start day 5.
24.01.2022 So happy when I spend time with like minded peeps.
23.01.2022 Cracker of a morning. Let's get this done
23.01.2022 Day 2 of 14 day Colt Start with Tanja Kraus Horsemanship. Sun shining and into our first session of 4 per day with our horses 6.30am. Some people choose cruises and cocktails for holidays. I choose further education and boot camp for horse and human .
23.01.2022 Meet Gracie. Grass is now on steroids.
22.01.2022 We now offer rug washing. $10 per cotton/mesh $15 rainsheets/winter/doona rugs Let me know if you would like me to do any of your rugs for you. I will even send you before and after photos Big thanks to Alex for messing around for hours to sort out the plumbing of the big machine in the shed
22.01.2022 VALE Goldilocks. Our lone ranger rooster. True gentleman Cock. Was booted out of the flock by angry white roosters. What did he do? Did he fight? No siree. He took up the solitary life sleeping in the feed shed and hanging with the ponies. The dogs were going nuts last night and now I know why. Taken by a fox I guess. Miss ya buddy. Took this photo just yesterday when I was working Jack. Goldilocks was our liberty rooster.
21.01.2022 Chilly starts to the mornings but glorious days.
20.01.2022 DAY 6. Today we took a what felt like a massive step in our colt start...saddles, cinches and breastplates..for our horses however it was just another tiny link in the chain of their education. They don't know the significance of this moment, they just accepted it with curiosity, trust, forbearance and grace. Just like the halter, pads, balls, tarps, umbrellas, sticks, flags, bridges, watercrossings and everything else we have asked of them. All of it in the pissing rain. Preparation is key. Day 6 colt start
20.01.2022 Happy Birthday @Julie Webster
19.01.2022 Stunning day for it...
19.01.2022 Just prepped a paddock to help house a rescue for a couple of weeks. Hope she likes it
19.01.2022 Baby Cowboy 3 years ago with Angie Thomas
18.01.2022 Pink Prince (Cowboy), Blue Queen (Bella) and the bog standard bays Banjo and Ollie. Jack Sparrow is spending some time learning to be a big boy and be confident away from his partner in crime. Baby steps towards self confidence. Don't worry he has buddies right close by.
17.01.2022 Excellent advice from Dr Oliver as usual.
15.01.2022 Such a widely held view that somehow when things don't go to your plan, your horse is TRYING to make you have a bad day....it's just plain NOT possible. Please look within and ask how can I ask differently . Work together towards deeper understanding
13.01.2022 Pre farrier play. Jack Sparrow and Cowboy.
13.01.2022 I told Cowboy about the new border restrictions ..told him humans just can't stay in their paddocks let alone their halters.. his response Turn on the sound
13.01.2022 DAY 7. Rain holding off for session 1. Looking like a grown up horse now.
12.01.2022 Great preparation = great results with great peeps and ponies. Thanks Tanja Kraus Horsemanship
11.01.2022 Happy Holidays to horses and humans.
10.01.2022 The sound of insects and frogs and a silent but slightly bedraggled koala.
10.01.2022 Just like a kid in an adventure playground...wouldn't get out of the pool. DAY 2.
09.01.2022 When we bring in a new horse or pony, we must be patient! So many animals advertised as ‘well broke’ do not make the transition to new ownership all that easi...ly. Heck, I've purchased animals who take close to a year to settle in and surprisingly, the ones described as ‘friendly’ can take it hardest of all. These are the ones who really bond with their people and changing hands is hard for them. Even a quiet horse or pony can suddenly become spooky, hard to catch, or a halter puller upon arrival. I can only recommend that when a new ride is purchased, sign up for a few lessons from the seller or former trainer, if qualified. Better yet, get yourself and your new horse into lessons with your regular coach. Waiting for things to be perfect is usually counterproductive. So, we get to work straightaway but we don’t expect perfection. We might note what we’d like to change or improve upon, but we refrain from immediately ‘remaking’ the new horse. Human nature has a hard time with waiting for gradual change to happen, so be warned. Some horses make the leap to their new lives with gusto, others grow homesick and troubled and some, we discover, were never all that well broke, to begin with. The trick is in knowing what's what! Finally, please remember that homesickness has no bearing on how much schooling a horse has, or has not received. If we were talking about children, we’d know instinctively that a complete change in homes and routines would be an emotional rollercoaster. I’ve often thought that handling horses is little different from raising kids... #loveandrules
09.01.2022 Visitors for the last few days in the house yard
08.01.2022 The saddest thing I’ve ever seen Is a woman on a horse that does not believe she is good enough to be there. Do not compare yourself. There is only this mome...nt, this horse. Your hands, seat, voice and leg, define the parameters of the entire world for this horse. What anyone else is doing, or has ever done, does NOT matter. Whomever it is that you look up to or feel less than Is in turn, looking up to another rider, wishing to aspire to that level. So be content where you are You are blessed! YOU are your only competition Just be better today than you were yesterday. Try hard for this horse you ride and try hard for yourself. Most of all, enjoy this time; Every moment. Every stride. Every cue that is answered with a response. Cherish this partnership Know, that you are exactly where you are supposed to be --Amye Photo credit Lee Willis
07.01.2022 This is great. Always reward the try.
02.01.2022 This is so cool to watch. That is one flash pony, part kelpie I think.
01.01.2022 Lots going on! Baby koalas, hay baling, hoof abcesses and a mini clinic. One full care paddock coming up if anyone is interested.
01.01.2022 Our rainfall total since Friday is pushing 260mm. Here's a graph of the last 12 months. Everyone is doing well. Mud will hang around for at least a week. The agistment gate lock is stuck so use the house gate if you need. Prob best stay in town unless you have a 4wd
