16.01.2022 On April 18 1845, St Matthias' Windermere was consecrated by the first Bishop of Tasmania, Bishop Francis Nixon (photo below from The King's Candlesticks: Pedig...rees Rt Rev Dr Francis Russell NIXON [1203].) It was the first Anglican church consecrated in the north of the state. Bishop Nixon painted the beautiful picture below, the iconic scene which would've been the first sight of "civilisation" of those heading towards Launceston by river. This year on the weekend Nov. 24/25, we will celebrate 175 years since the church was completed and the first public service held. Please pass this on to descendants of the early pioneer families and keep tuned for further details: Gaunt, Coulson, Rosevear, Medwin, Hill, Atkinson, Plummer, Neilley Wing... and please advise us of others interested.
