20.01.2022 Hey guys, Some of you asked about weighted blankets to improv sleep and reduce anxiety so here's my two cents... What are weighted blankets? What materials should they be made of out of to be effective in the treatment of anxiety? ... Essentially, they reflect deep tissue massage - which can be a therapeutic tool, alleviating anxiety with tactile pressure. In 2006, a 32-person study in Occupational Therapy in Mental Health found that 63% of participants reported lower anxiety after using a weighted blanket (compared to lying down with no blanket at all), and 78% said they felt more relaxed with the blanket than without. Here I explain: why stress contributes to 3am wakings why stress keeps you in a light stage of sleep In order to stay in asleep, your levels of cortisol must be relatively low If your cortisol levels are too high, you’ll stay awake - that’s the function of cortisol. To keep you awake. Cortisol levels rise due to stress. So if your highly stressed, you’re more likely to experience fragmented sleep - during light sleep stages, your cortisol levels may be so high that it triggers you to be fully conscious.
