24.01.2022 Power outages may be serious for people who use electricity and battery dependent assistive technology and medical devices. These include people who use respirators, power wheelchairs, oxygen and home dialysis machines. There are a few areas within our region that are experiencing power outages currently. Always be mindful to check in on those who may need assistance. Estimated time to fix is unknown, if you need urgent medical assistance please dial 000.

Short morning and evening shifts (1-3 hours) available. Longer day shifts (approx 8 hours) may become available in the near future. This position will be working from our office in Grendon Street, working with an Occupational Therapist with extensive experience. As an OT with OneLife NQ, you will be working with our NDIS or NIISQ clients to learn how they wish to live their lives and support them to do this as independently as possible. This may involve assessing and making recommendations to adapt their home environment to make it more acce...ssible (e.g major bathroom or kitchen adaptations) or it may involve smaller changes such as grab rails and recommendations for specialist equipment (e.g wheelchairs, bedding, hoists, slings). Additionally, you may be involved in doing direct therapy and rehabilitation with your clients. Your role will also include the provisions of training to the client, their family and their support team in the proper use and maintenance of this equipment and also supporting them to follow home programs as required. Our team recognise the importance of person-centred care and believe that our clients are the experts in their own lives. For the successful candidate, we maybe able to assist with a short term/subsidised accommodation option until March 2021 if required in our self-contained unit. This is a private upstairs unit at our specialist respite house, Myrtle’s Place. It was alarming to find that in Mackay we have over 700 people that have a disability and a majority of those people may not have a plan tailored to their individual support needs in an emergency situation. There are many risks that impact our community from Cyclones, Storms, Floods, Bush Fires, House Fires and Power Outages. Have you got your emergency plan in place? ... If you would like some assistance in creating a plan or know some who may need assistance, message our friendly team at OneLife NQ. For further resources there are a number of websites to assist in disaster education: Mackay.qld.gov.au/emergency Qfes.qld.gov.au/community-safety The Emergency Action Guides can be obtained from our local council.
