20.05.2022 SAHMRI researchers have conducted the first-ever Australia-wide diet survey of infants and children aged 6 months to 2 years old and found all infants and a quarter of toddlers are failing to meet the recommended daily iron intake. Not getting enough iron is a concern because we know iron deficiency negatively impacts overall development. It can also cause tiredness, loss of appetite as well as poor growth and lead to anaemia, a condition that reduces oxygen in the body", says the study's co-lead Dr Merryn Netting, Research Fellow at SAHMRI Women and Kids.
