20.01.2022 PROJECT IMPACT EVIDENCE BASED // The NCAEP chose Project ImPACT as one of only 2 Parent-Mediated Interventions that meet criteria for being Evidence-Based Practice. This systematic review from The National Clearinghouse on Autism Evidence and Practice (NCAEP) describes interventions that have clear evidence of positive outcomes for children with autism. This is the third version of the report. The previous reports (Odom, ColletKlingenberg, et al., 2010; Wong et al., 2014; 201...5), looked at research into intervention, and this report included additional articles published between 1990 and 2017. The report was released last week and provides the most current information about evidence based interventions. This is fantastic news for our parents who have been doing the Project ImPACT program! 18.01.2022 MASKING TAPE AND SOME IMAGINATION // For parents still thinking of activities for home, here is an opened ended activity with endless fun for indoors or outdoors. Our ESDM Therapist, Cathy Quigg, used an obstacle course with jumping, balancing, hopping, bear crawls and tip toeing. Not only do these simple activities help gross motor but they also have great impact on self regulation, spatial orientation, improves balance and encourages movement. All these activists can be adj...usted to suit specific ages and abilities . After a tiring workout, this little one participated in some sorting... (use something thats ready available) She used a small amount from her huge bow collection This activity not only helped with colour matching but was great for fine motor development and hand/eye coordination. 15.01.2022 PENCIL GRIP // A childs grip on the pencil may look different for every child. There are different types of equipment that can be trialled with each child to encourage a correct and functional pencil grip. Our Occupational Therapy Manager, Dale Scheftz, used a pencil grip to teach one of our kids how to position their fingers on the pencil more appropriately. Not only does it help to show the child where to place their fingers on the pencil, it also improves their control... of the pencil and reduces the fatigue or discomfort from adopted a poor pencil grip. 13.01.2022 TO INFINITY AND BEYOND // Today we used Buzz Lightyear to practice peeling stickers off and putting them on paper. In this task a child has to use both hands. However, the hands do different things. One hand has the more dominate role of peeling off the sticker. The other hand has a less dominate roll of manipulating the backing.
