25.01.2022 Its hard to lose weight after treatment, especially for those of us with a Tamoxibelly. Keep trying, it IS possible. Im seeing an exercise physiologist weekly and there are definitely positive changes happening. Longevity Personal Training and Exercise Physiology

25.01.2022 I often think of Tom*, a man I used to chat to during chemo. I don't know what happened to him, because it's easy to swap numbers with the woman sitting next to you, but not so much with the bloke. Tom struggled through treatment, he cared more about his hair loss than I did, he felt less able to ask for help and he didn't have access to all the support I had. His friends used to make fun of him for having a "chick's disease". Men get breast cancer too, and they have very di...fferent needs, so the Hat Project is important. Tell your menfolk not to ignore any lumps. Even if it's on their moobs. #HatProject2020. #ZeroBy2030 #MensHealthWeek. *Name change for privacy.

25.01.2022 Hey peeps, hope everyones ok. If youre going through treatment now, well, avoiding people was going to be your thing anyway. If youve been through treatment already, well, weve already been there, done that, got the t-shirt.... Weve got this, friends. Stay home, stay safe.

25.01.2022 Shout out to everyone here whos feeling (even more) vulnerable and anxious. This virus is the second c-word to impact us!!! Youre not alone, I see you, everyone here sees you and sends love and support. I know that cancer and Lymphoedema services still need advocacy and money, and I will not let the fundraising and advocacy work fade out during this time (although creative suggestions are welcomed!). ... Take care of yourselves and please use this page to chat if youre feeling lonely.

25.01.2022 Grab some tissues and read this. When I was going through treatment, I worried so much that I wasnt the mum I wanted to be for my very young son. But now, nearly 8 years later, my son is everything they say in this article. He is kind, compassionate and patient with others. Above all, he is loved and he knows he is loved. Keep going mummas with cancer. I see you, and I know what an amazing job youre doing.

24.01.2022 Advocacy is never a solo fight for whats right. Its about collaboration. I am so proud to work with some amazing people in our Lymphoedema advocacy work (theres many more of us than just the three of us pictured). This was taken on World Lymphoedema Day but we work on things all year round. #lymphoedema Cancer Council NSW CanAct Community

24.01.2022 EDIT: home now. Thanks for all the suggestions xxx In hospital after minor surgery. Am delighted to report that everyone was aware of Lymphoedema and I didnt have to explain anything to anyone (which isnt always the way). I do feel a tad more compressed than usual with my normal sleeve and surgical stockings!!!... Now, anyone got any movie recommendations for me? Light hearted, rom com perhaps?

23.01.2022 English peeps: if youre near Shrewsbury and need treatment, I highly recommend Mary Warrilow Independent Nurse Specialist. She was kind enough to fit me in straight away when I had a travel-induced flare up, and fixed the problem in one session. Also, shes super nice

23.01.2022 I may be doing it in a #lymphoedema sleeve, but I’m pretty proud of being a 46 year old breast cancer survivor having a go at parkour!

23.01.2022 March 6th is World Lymphoedema Day. To celebrate, please read my article on '10 awesome benefits of having lymphoedema'. All comments welcome. https://onepieceofadvice.com.au/10-awesome-benefits-of-hav/... #lymphoedema #lymphedema

22.01.2022 6 years ago we went to print!

22.01.2022 Redfern Lingerie is closing down, and we wish the wonderful founder Tina the best of luck with her new adventures. Tina and Redfern Lingerie have been a supporter of One Piece of Advice and a friend to me since we met. Theres a closing down sale on now with mastectomy bras available for just $45. Literally, get em while you can!!

21.01.2022 This just appeared on my newsfeed. My first thought was a model with Lymphoedema! Turns out this is Joany Badenhorst, the paralympian. It did get me thinking, if Modibodi can do this for swimwear, why cant #lymphoedema organisations do it for lymphoedema? Show a real body engaging in a healthy lifestyle without hiding how it really is. Ive seen too many lymphoedema-related images without any sign of lymphoedema. And dont get me started on the compression garment ads with... models with skinny arms!!! CLICK picture to see full image.

21.01.2022 Fridge essentials: fresh fruit, veg, wine...and your compression sleeve. Got the tip from Mary Warrilow. Sleeve in fridge for relief on hot days. Will test and update you tomorrow

19.01.2022 Well keep fighting for publicly funded lymphoedema services. Everyone should be able to access treatment, regardless of their ability to pay.

19.01.2022 It’s been 9 years since diagnosis but every time I hear ‘everything happens for a reason’ I’m as angry and flabbergasted as I was whenever well-meaning but thoughtless people thought to say that to me while I was sick, bald and in pain. Anyone else triggered by platitudes or is it just me?

18.01.2022 Did you know that there are oncology psychologists? Specialised psychologists who know exactly what you are going through? Ask your care team for a recommendation or call the Cancer Council NSW hotline and ask. Personally, my go to is Outlook Psychology.

18.01.2022 I feel like the Lymphoedema version of Punxsutawney Phil... I know exactly when the weather is warming up Anyone else?

17.01.2022 Happy new year peeps. For those of you whose 2019 sucked, 2020 will be better. I know it will.

17.01.2022 Peeps, there is an ad circulating Facebook from a company called Good Bra that claims breast cancer is caused by underwire bras. This is completely untrue and a massively unethical way of selling a product. Report it or dont, its up to you, but please dont believe that your cancer was caused by anything you did. Patient blaming is unacceptable. And makes me furious. Link to a Breast Cancer Network Australia answer about underwire bras in the comments. Note, the topic is ...entitled Myths, in case there was any doubt. Also added Cancer Council NSW link.

17.01.2022 Pet peeve: constantly having to get new prescriptions for a 10 year course of meds!!

16.01.2022 Those who know me, know that I HATE battle analogies. However, today I am making an exception. I know some of you will be fighting cancer AND bushfires, or the devastating effects of them. I can only imagine how hard right now is for you. Please check in and let us know youre ok.

14.01.2022 Fridge sleeve update: sleeve went on nice and cool, felt lovely. Unfortunately, the cool disappeared within seconds. Verdict: good for putting on sleeve on a hot day, which can be hard. But dont expect any constant cooling

13.01.2022 Dear Gladys, thank you for your letter. Could you please ensure that #lymphoedema is added to the health priorities you mentioned? Its as simple as providing publicly funded therapists - that would make a huge difference to the cancer survivors who are affected by this chronic condition. Some areas have NO services, so people who cant afford treatment just dont get any. ... Please help. I know you can.

12.01.2022 Hi Bruce Notley-Smith MP, did you get my letter? I popped in yesterday but you were out. Ive done some calculations for you, and we could get a #lymphodema therapist at Prince of Wales or Nelune for 0.01% or 0.08% of your budget, depending on which one we use. Thats pretty good, isnt it? Could you please let me know by voting day? Cheers

11.01.2022 Last night I attended Stars of The East: Dance For Cancer. My #lymphoedema was playing up so I had to sleeve it... doesnt exactly go with the dress, but if theres anywhere I shouldnt worry about how my arm looks itll be a Cancer Council NSW event!! It was a wonderful event, and lovely to spend time with Colin, Julien, Hannah and Marjorie ONeill - Member for Coogee.

11.01.2022 Hi peeps, here is a chance to tell the government your thoughts about obstacles to healthcare. Put down whatever you want to see improvements in! I put lack of availability and wait lists for Lymphoedema treatment in the community section. https://www1.health.gov.au//national-preventive-health-str

10.01.2022 This is Atlas, my very naughty groodle. If breast cancer awareness month gets too much, fill your newsfeed with dogs. Not a joke - theyve been proven to be therapeutic, and you guys already have enough #breastcancer awareness for a lifetime.

10.01.2022 For all of you who are finding October tough...

08.01.2022 Love this quote.

07.01.2022 The lovely peeps at Tonic were happy to chat to me about cancer survivorship. https://tonicmag.com.au//what-no-one-told-me-about-survivi

06.01.2022 This is good news - I paid $$$ for my scans. Something not right about forking out hundreds for bad news. And if the costs make them prohibitive, then the outcomes are tragic.

06.01.2022 I firmly believe that you cant stay positive all of the time. So, with that in mind, I will role model my beliefs and say: Effing Lymphoedema. Aint it the truth!

05.01.2022 From last night....

05.01.2022 'Fess up... how many of you have accidentally punched your face putting on your sleeve? Come on, make me feel better!

04.01.2022 Its been 9 years since diagnosis but every time I hear everything happens for a reason Im as angry and flabbergasted as I was whenever well-meaning but thoughtless people thought to say that to me while I was sick, bald and in pain. Anyone else triggered by platitudes or is it just me?

03.01.2022 Today I was a guest speaker for National Breast Cancer Foundations Bridge to 2030 fundraiser. Not only did I get to climb the bridge, but I got to share the experience with Dr Liz Caldon, whose research is funded by NBCF. These scientists are rock stars, people, absolute rock stars.

03.01.2022 Did you know that breast cancer survival rates are worse for our Indigenous sisters? NOT GOOD ENOUGH. We need to advocate for better services for us ALL. #alwayswasalwayswillbe https://www.cancercouncil.com.au//breast-cancer-survival-/

02.01.2022 Liberal yesterday, labour today. We all need to speak up for cancer issues including survivorship issues like lymphoedema. My area has NO public lymphoedema services. How is this good enough. Please add your voice and write to your candidates today.

02.01.2022 You might need this today...
