20.01.2022 Theres a lot of noise designed to sell, unfortunately, theres not as many in the industry who genuinely think WIN/WIN and who consider their clients outcome equal to their own. Erika from Mac&Ernie social media training is one such ethical professional - Erikas article suggestions, theyre solid, take your online security seriously! Adding to Erikas Facebook article, these 8 points cover your general online security:... (1) enable 2 factor authentication wherever you can. (2) never use a password more than once (for only one account). (3) but if you do, at least make sure that they are in 4 different silos, i.e.- very different passwords for any kind of banking/financial accounts, social media, email and then others. (4) passwords should be at least 8 characters, preferably 12 or more, and contain a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. Stay away from your pets, kids and birthdays. Try this utility if you cant think of a good password: www.dinopass.com (5) Setup logins using your email address and a unique password for each account, avoid using Facebook, Google or other login permission options, they can give 3rd party apps access to your accounts. (6) be mindful and cautious using public or unknown devices and ensure you logout and clear your browsing and auto fill history. (7) check the address (URL) for the site youre visiting, is it correct? i.e.- there is a difference between paypal.com and paypal1.com - sites may look the same but youre handing over your keys if you enter your real login details into a fake page thats imitating an authentic website (called phishing). (8) check the websites you visit are using secure encryption, the address bar (URL) should have https:// or a padlock at the beginning. Dont enter personal details, especially credit card info if they arent using this SSL encryption.
