Matthews beaming smile lights up the room, and his irresistible energy will undoubtedly make you smile too. Matthew loves playing with his older brothers and sister, and recently celebrated his first birthday. Matthew adores his Mum and Dad, and seeing them together is to observe the purest love. His siblings are learning Auslan as their LOTE subject (through home schooling) so that they can support Matthews communication development. 19.01.2022 The amount of sleep that your child needs to effectively support their development changes as they grow. Children aged 1-3 years require up to 14 hours of sleep each night, including 1-2 daytime naps. A primary school aged child still needs at least 9 hours of sleep, and would benefit from having as much as 12 hours each night! Inadequate sleep can increase challenging behaviours and research evidence has linked sleep disturbance in children to elevated stress levels in fam...ilies .. @ookamikids understand that ensuring everyone gets a good night sleep can be easier said than done. 18.01.2022 A lot of people are asking when we will stop wearing masks @ookamikids. As allied health professionals we must comply with the advice of various registration bodies and governing agencies, such as DHHS. It is still considered necessary and best practice for our awesome therapists to be wearing surgical masks during their sessions. We don’t expect that you wear a mask, but we will still be wearing one for a little while yet. We did have a small celebration when we got to take our goggles off though! 09.01.2022 Last week I was listening to one of our Ookami Kids talk to her big sister. She was asking her what she is going to do for her birthday (in December). They talked about a picnic or a party, and how many friends she might invite. Then she started to reflect on her own birthday, which had been in May. She reminisced that she hadn’t been able to shop for presents, or see any friends or extended family. After a quiet moment she said, ‘you should say thank you to my birthday for... your birthday’! And it’s true. We have just hit 28 days without a new COVID-19 case in VIC, how amazing! But it’s not occurred by accident. It’s been possible due to a huge community effort. A community effort of endless selfless actions and sacrifices by individuals. Guided by strong and clear leadership in the face of adversity. And because of that incredible effort, here we are. I’m feeling so much gratitude today. Feeling so fortunate to live where we do, and to have such an amazing community. Let’s keep doing the right thing and looking after each other. And remember to acknowledge what people have sacrificed this year so that we can be safe and connected in this moment.
