20.01.2022 Over the last 2 weeks, I have had some enquires from licenced venues in Melbourne in relation to providing security services for them. It is good to see that venue owners are starting to take notice of their responsibility with compliance in relation to staff and wages being paid to the team. Example 1 was a venue using an "in house guard" but the venue owner looked at the fine print of his Public Liability Insurance and noted that if he employed someone in a security role th...e guard must be covered under their own Public Liability Insurance which then comes back to a security company. Example 2. The owner of another licenced venue was enquiring about security staff and requested that the provider must hold the new Victorian Labour Hire Licence. Which is the first time I have actually seen a venue request that. When looking at contracting a security provider in Victoria here a couple of things to consider. 1. Full insurance 2. Correct and current licences in place 3. Ask do you subcontract the guards for the position? If so do they hold Full Insurance cover? 4. Are you getting what you pay for? At OPSI all our staff are employees. We hold full insurance coverage. We hold the new Victorian Labour Hire Licence and all required Victorian Business Security Licences.
